I've spent the morning watching the memorial and re-living all the painful memories of that time. I lived in NYC on 9/11, and the anniversaries have always been gut-wrenching and very personal. Over the years, I've been disheartened as I've seen people start to forget just how monumental the attacks were and their impact on our society.
But goddamn, some of these have given me some serious lulz.

Well of course not, but it's hardly the first time jokes have been made about tragic things.
People have made jokes about such tragic things as the Japanese tsunami, the holocaust, muslim mothers talking about how their children "blow up so fast these days", then add to that the fact that the media drew 9/11 out into a giant fat cashcow (and still do, 10 years on) showing the planes hitting the buildings for weeks on end, governments used it as a justification for war, legislation and policy...and ask yourself why on earth should the "event" be immune to satire?

IMHO it is laughing the terror in its ugly face - not degrading any poor victim.
