Jerry, you know how pro-gun I am. But that is ridiculous. Open carry without a ccw? HELL NO. That is not open carry. It's duplicitous and, for lack of a better word, sneaky. You know how entrapment (cops hiding to catch criminals/speeders) is illegal in some places? If it's not legal for trained police officers to deceive criminals, then it shouldn't be legal for a normal fucking human to carry a deadly projectile weapon without it being obvious that it's a gun. That is simply terrifying.

My state law is rather simple on the matter. As long as the weapon or holster (a holster is presumed to contain a firearm) is visible from 3 sides of your body it's considered open carry. Makes no stipulation on what the weapon looks like as long as it is legal to possess. Cell phone, AR-15, 12 inch bowie knife, makes no difference.

But how would that cellphone-sized gun be visible from 3 sides of your body? Unless you're OliveOyl, it's gonna be pretty close to impossible.

If it's on a belt clip can a person in front of you see it, can a person in back of you see it, and obviously from that side? Done.

The '3 side' thing pretty much means anywhere on your body so long as it isn't covered by clothes or under your arms, inner thighs...nothing obstructing its viewing by a person you would walk past on the street basically. Now I should add the State normally preempts all local authorities on gun laws, except for open carry. They allow local municipalities to make their own additional regulations limiting that. So in certain towns this may be different.

I wonder how many thousands of person-hours those cellphone guns will add to TSA checks.

They've been doing it for years. There's a reason they make you put your phone through the X-Ray machine, maybe even turn it on to see if it's real. This smart phone gun is not a new concept. I remember first seeing cell phone guns back in 2004. (not for sale in the U.S. back then, I just remember hearing about them)

Here's a 4 shot .22 pistol.

I must admit I find the American love of guns a bit crazy and scary. Just because something is legal doesnt mean it's right, necessary or should stay that way. All sorts of horrific things have been legal in the past and are now no longer legal and I think guns should belong in that category. No one needs a gun and it would be way better if no one had them.

I spent a while living in America and when I saw what looked like a regular guy waving a gun around on the street it freaked me out and left me feeling like anyone and everyone could potentially shoot me for no reason at anytime.

I traveled across America for months, and never once felt in even mild danger, let alone the kind of danger that would see me want to pull a gun in self defence , but then again thats a product of my upbringing in the UK. I don't think more lax gun controls make people safer, just more paranoid.

In my opinion the only people who should have guns should be the Firearms unit of a police force, a dedicated unit with training, not just give a gun to anyone, even just regular cops

The problem with the the pro-gun lobby in the USA is they pander to to the FEAR rather than the fact. far too powerful an influence in my opinion

I'd like to point out that a federal law was passed several years ago making it illegal to carry a firearm into a security area under the control of the Secret Service.

As all presidential candidates are under Secret Service protection, carrying a firearm into a political rally where a presidential candidate is at (especially the building or room the candidate is in) would violate Federal law, state law would not apply.

As far as the cell phone popper, why bother? Derringer type pistols are notoriously inaccurate and since you have only 2 shots, whats the point. Then, me being me, i'm going to look at the cost aspect. If i'm spending almost $400 on a gun, I will opt for something that might actually do its job and have a clip of at least 6 shots.
Now, as for all the anti gun culture folks, simply put, shooting is fun. At one point in my life, I had many visitors from many parts of the world, Europe, UK, Denmark, South America, Japan, Australia etc... they all wanted to go shooting while here. After a few days at the ranch, most were fully smitten with the experience. They all wished they had the opportunity to own guns at home with the ease we do. They were each trained in the safety and proper use of several weapons and then after a few rounds of practice, allowed to have at it.
The thing that does scare me about the US, are the total idiots, mostly city dwellers or 'suits' that have no clue about the safe use and the how/when aspects of self defense. Those folks are the ones that end up getting in trouble from misjudging things or hesitation. I have actually witnessed an older woman fumbling around in her purse for her gun and then waving it at "a parking lot hood" to attempt to scare him off. He went right to her, took it and left with it. Never ever touch a concealed gun unless you are prepared to use it correctly.
