So somebody wrote this

Which led to this satire response

And I'm not really sure the details, but I read something about feminists harassing the creators of the satire? I know they had to move the page to a different site. If anyone has more details on it I wanna hear.

But god it's so dumb. So. Dumb.

I don't understand the original at all, it seems like it's written by a 14 year old who just discovered feminism and what's to have everything be feminist even if it's not sexist already, she might as well have said "It's come to my attention that most squashes could be improved by feminism, look how zuchinis are very phallic, PATRIARCHY". There are a few things that the satire said that might be deemed offensive but for the most part it's basically like "hey, your idea was dumb". So I'm really wondering why their was any sort of feminist backlash.

ETA: If I remember correctly a woman was either the first to create computer coding or at least had a very strong involvement in it's creation so... I'm not sure what the author of the original author is on about...

I do not understand this, but I am not a philosopher. I do not understand how you can make an object oriented language, without an underlying framework to give the objects substance. It seems like it would be the same as removing the basic from visual basic. Maybe it makes sense to programers.

So i found some sources about the website being taken down

And the woman you are looking for is Ada Lovelace

Not sure about the site still being online yet, since i could click Aella's link normally.

Why??? :-D

It's insanity. When "feminists" get up in arms about shit like this, do they not see how ridiculously counter-productive they're being? When people purporting to be fighting for equality and something closer to egalitarianism in a patriarchal society devote time and energy attacking shit like this, the real feminist issues that actually need to be addressed in society get drowned out by the laughter and scorn elicited by "feminist programming languages" and other such non-sensical batshit.

I was at a stand up comedy gig a few months ago, where the comedian made a comment about feminists not being perceived to have a sense of humour. A few, who identified theirselves as feminists, got up and left the show. If they'd stayed, they might've caught the punchlines debunking the theory, but by walking out, they didn't do a great deal in crushing the stereotype.

Non related but still related (?), i had a little fight with one big friend of mine these days. I wrote some college papers about drunk rape on girls, and while i explained the whole thing, the crime and the consequences to the victim, she started babbling
"whoa, Gween, no no, but any heterossexual sex is rape! The woman body can't be violted by such...thing...ew! There is no such thing as safe sex, they are all rape"
"no, you are crazy, if we say that any sex is rape, what's the point in criminalizing rape?"
"its just gross how man take they dick and stick to your vagina..oh well, i think its gross, you are not a feminist if you sleep with the enemy (any men)"

Something is crazy about feminism and i don't even want to know.

I don't think your friend understands the meaning of the word "feminist", yo ;)

I think its like RadFem by Andrea Dworkin. Its feminism, but not the equality one, its just like the machoism, but for woman.

The only thing i am 100% sure is that, at least in Brazil, feminism is turning into something crazy, and i am really afraid. Imagine if this friend know that i have a MFC profile hahaha, she might kill me in my sleep and declare VICTORY FOR WOMEN ONE LESS VICTIM OF THE SYSTEM

I guess there are crazies in every group/movement and there's no ideology that angry, hateful people won't pervert in order to justify their shitty world view. I like to think most feminists are rational and just want to see women be viewed and treated as equals to men (by definition, if you're not a feminist, you're a misogynist/misandrist, ya know?), but there's also a vocal minority who seemingly just like to play the victim and will create "feminist issues" where there are none, just so they have something to rally against (while ironically ignoring and obscuring all the shit that really needs to be rallied against) :twocents-02cents:

There's crazies in everything though. Can't find the link now, but there was a blog on a news website I saw last month by a women claiming that Movember was anti-women and pro-rape, and that it wasn't fair to exclude women from an event. Was quite possibly the worst thing I've ever read.

I agree, anything that's a huge, ambiguous term is gonna be full of people using that label to spew their crazy shit. It's like when bigots use religion to justify their bigotry, even though there's loads of people sharing that religion who disagree. I don't think you can generalize feminists as anything because of how broad a term that is.

I wish people would pick their battles. If you come across as someone who can never be pleased whatever happens or make really unreasonable demands then people will get fed up with you. If someone accepts certain area's and only fights the important battles then it's good for the cause. Fighting for the sake of fighting makes it look like a total joke.

It's a shame women like this are basically turning feminism into a mockery rather than a serious thing. If anyone's ever watched legally blonde there's a scene where a very lesbian feminist is talking about how she wants to change the word "semester" to "ovester" or something like that because "semester" sounds kind of like semen... Which is just so ridiculous because the word doesn't originate or have anything remotely to do with semen. I know that's just a silly film, but unfortunately there are actually people who want over correction to the extreme, not just in cases to do with feminism, but also in cases to do with racism/homophobia. I'm a feminist, but I also accept that I am female and am different to men, I also love men, not all men, but in basic communications I very much enjoy male company. I don't like a lot of the underlying natures that are usually hidden and the world that has taught boys from birth that they're more important than women. I don't see men as the enemy, but I think that education and a change of attitudes is in order, I also believe this won't happen until some of the older generations die out, including my own. I think it's silly that in so many countries people accept that being from different area's or having different physical appearances doesn't make you weaker or different, women in all cultures are still treated differently.

I actually fell out with one of my all time best friends because she was becoming so extreme in her views. In fairness, I probably provoked the argument when she asked me to sign a petition in the UK to ban "Page 3" (for those outside the UK, Page 3 tends to refer to a picture of a topless lady on Page 3 of a tabloid newspaper) and I replied to it "Why would I do that? I love boobs!".

I'm all for equality. I'm not for one gender being discriminated against though. That said, it needs to be on merit, not because of what sex you are. Nothing annoys me more when I get told by managers "You should really hire a woman", and that has happened recently as well. I have a small team of 3 currently, consisting of myself, another guy and a middle aged lady. Surely when I fill the vacancy though, it should be about the best person for the job rather than the best woman?

As a logical person you might think that, but logic is rooted in patriarchy and does not apply here. Affirmative Action proponents would believe that because women have been underprivileged throughout history, it is your personal responsibility to make reparations for those harms by discriminating against non-women in your hiring decisions.

Picture somewhat related.

I feel like you have never had a conversation with anyone's whose opinion differs from you in your whole life. Every post I've read from you about something you disagrees with seems to reek of incorrect knowledge of the parties you disagree with. I actually don't think I've ever met any feminists who believe that companies should FAVOR those who are generally oppressed, simply that when hiring employees you should NOT take into account skin color/gender or sexuality.

Side note: "Logic is rooted in patriarchy"?? Are you kidding me? I'm sure you also believe that all liberals have weed gardens they tend with their out of wedlock children?

"It's a shame women like this are basically turning feminism into a mockery rather than a serious thing."

I agree, although I'm surprised when smart/rational people use examples from obviously vocal minorities as a guideline to how they feel about a group, like when people say that they had a crazy feminist friend who hated all men or saw an outlandish article about a feminist who was demanding a stupid change. I don't necessarily mean people in this thread, I know people are just sharing examples (and some of them are really funny!), but especially in real life I'm surprised by how many people can acknowledge these things as ridiculous but not recognize how non-representative they are.

Says the lady who gets naked for a living. Enter the real corporate world one day, and you'll be in for a rude awakening as to how this shit actually works. Read the first sentence here. Affirmative Action is the complete opposite of being color / gender blind.

I did read it as sarcasm. As you sarcastically saying "don't you know the feminazis are right?" I was implying you actually believed it, but that you believed that's what feminists believed.
