Well, there are really a number of facets to this. Generalized complaints about white males may be fairly harmless and generally can be ignored (unless someone literally decides to make war on them), true. On the other hand, it's never particularly pleasant to get personally blamed just for being what you are by birth, even if it's a majority group that has it pretty good statistically. Probably most white people don't care about being white much, and actually the ones that do can be pretty scary. As a man, I do care how women perceive my gender to the extent that it affects how they'll react to me individually. In this forum, I've seen several rather heated posts from women that refer to bad things men do in general. While I don't doubt that some men are guilty of the things mentioned, I don't think I am. I would really hate for those things to be believed to so universal that it negatively affects my relationships (of chances for relationships) with women.

That would be political correctness, and it's taken over the UK pretty bad. The people i know and some are friends aren't bother by being called black in general (and it seems you feel the same), only when it's used negatively which is understandable and not acceptable. But a group of people got all pissed off and said that it's not PC to say black anymore (and a whole list of other words).
I was raised pretty openly, i had friends of different cultures growing up and didn't have any negative sterrotypes put on me from my parents views so racism was never anything to me, they were just a different person to me what ever colour skin they had. I don't see the picture as being racist, just a guy trying to eat a huge burger.

As to the whole male priviledge (i had to google that too) i can see where she's coming from, historically it has been easier for white men to get the 'top' jobs but to assume that every white male has it easy and they have 'to work for nothing' is wrong. Equality has been having an impact and people of all races/sexes are getting a fairer chance at more things. It's still not perfect of course but with the current state of the economy and jobs, no-one has it easy and everyone is having to work for what they have now.

By birth, I am pretty much predestined to be racist and sexist and anything else you can think of. I was born with light skin (white, caucasian, whatever), male and live in the United States. Oh, and since I live in the southern portion of the US, I probably also don a white sheet from time to time, because, you know, that's just what we white males do.

Because of where I live, most of my friends are not white. That is not necessarily a good or bad thing, just a fact.

Perception is reality. If all these people running around screaming "racism" at every perceived slight would stop to think that the reason they are being slighted is not because of their race but because they are raving lunatics and unlikable in general, things might be just a little bit better. It's mostly self-perpetuating.

If a black person (or white, or pruple or green, whatever) comes at me with a chip on their shoulder, predetermined to hate me because of what they perceive me to be, then it's going to be real difficult not to dislike that person. And it's not because of their color.

Does racism still exist? Of course it does. But when you try to paint in the fine strokes with a roller, there is a lot of nuance that gets covered up.

Which, is what I have imagined for some time now. Oh I agree 100% Rose, the bit about having Bawsyk pegged a troll was aimed at humor, more than anything. (I think it was Bawsyk actually who suggested she thought he was a troll, nothing she said?) And though it will most likely meet with a good deal of resistance, I will go on record in stating, there is nothing better than a proper troll. IMO, far too often ppl get tagged trolls, when they are just mean, nasty ppl. I think a proper troll is nether, but rather brutally honest. I for one am proud we have one of the most proper trolls I've experienced here at ACF. All the more reason I don't wish to think of Bawsyk as a racist.

Thoughts? Sure, white guys might be "privileged" in certain settings, but not every setting. In many job settings it's much better to be a cute girl, or a girl with big boobies, just like she is. (in many workplaces women have a better chance of being hired BECAUSE they are women and employers are supposed to "even it out.") There was a Mom-n-Pop burger shack here in town about 5-6 years ago that made these... actually I think it was a lil bigger than this one. :-D
7 glorious pounds of top notch smokey burger, cooked on a real wood fire. They cut it into quarters and marketed it for 3-4 people, BUT if you could eat it all by yourself, it and the drink or whatever else you had was completely free ! The average they said was about one free a month. Not surprisingly, one local 'Bubba' was responsible for 3-4 of those a year.
I never made it without paying.. lol.. probably why I'm still alive today. :lol:
