My Christmas sucked. My Aunt is sick ( as always) and was unable to be with me or get me any presents.
This is the second time in a row where i have been all alone on Christmas with zero presents.
This also happend to me with my birthday this year. No party, no cake, no presents. Has this ever happend to you?

You probably don't realize how insensitive and selfish your post sounded, and I think that's the reason for the facepalms.

Dude, be grateful that your aunt is still living, and treasure every moment that you have with her. I'm sorry to hear that she's sick, and hope she gets better soon. This was my mom's first Christmas without her mom. Just in the past month or two, at work we've signed so many condolence cards for co-workers who've lost their loved ones. There are homeless people trying not to freeze to death this winter. You have a home and a bed to sleep in.

As for Christmas...or Valentine's Day (since that's the next holiday approaching where folks will be down in the dumps and feeling sorry for themselves)...there's nothing wrong with treating yourself to something nice. I've treated myself to a Valentine's Day hot stone massage at Massage Envy. For my birthday, I spend the whole day at Six Flags BY MYSELF (It's my birthday tradition). I won't let my happiness be determined by others, and I refuse to let being single stop me from having nice things or having fun. Why not make a resolution to yourself, and say "I'm gonna DO ME in 2017?" Start living your life, and doing nice things for yourself...so you don't have to wait for others to do them for you.

I can understand wanting to share good times with other people, but remember that people can be a pain in the ass too sometimes (like this guy at work who always burps super loud while we're trying to eat). I look forward to having some alone time without people getting on my nerves, nagging me, or asking me a bunch of personal questions. :p

Im over it now. My birthday and Christmas have both come and gone.

Im over it now.

Guy, I really, really, REALLY hope so. I really do. But considering the fact that 10 years later, you were still crying over the lack of presents (a recurring theme, no?) and party for your high school graduation...color me skeptical.

In the spirit of optimism and the New Year, I'll take you at your word and offer my congratulations. I'll also add in my sincere wishes for a Happy and successful New Year for you!

You can take my/our advice, or continue feeling sorry for yourself. Either way, I hope you have a wonderful new year. I really like you, and you hope your 2017 is awesome.

Hope your Aunt is okay, and from your post I'm also worried I've got more concern for her welfare than you... but maybe that's just the way you put it across.

Christmas is not about presents, if that's what you choose to focus upon then it may be why you spend it alone. We don't give presents, haven't done for over a decade. It's all about the family, getting together, having fun. Last time we did give presents we forgot and they got opened on Boxing Day - at which point we realised no-one really cares about presents.

Perhaps in future seek some other form of reward than presents; try volunteering for a soup kitchen or other charitable causes. You may find it can be the most enjoyable Christmas you have... and presents will not factor in at all.

Yes I have been completely alone on Christmas.. and without presents a few times. Mostly in my previous Marriage. My parents told me Santa wasn't real because they couldn't afford to get me gifts and didn't want me to think I was a naughty child. But why do we expect gifts? I know it's traditional but the pressure is immense. My family started drawing names so we wouldn't have to buy gifts for everyone. I also have worked every Christmas for the last 6 years. The problem with holidays and birthdays is it's overrated, materialistic, and we all become a little too absorbed in consumerism. Focusing way too much on gifts instead of family. Sure it's fun.. but unfortunately for those of us under the poverty level It's stressful and damn. I'm glad it's over.. until next year.

I haven't been to a Christmas party in 10 years. I tell people I don't like Christmas due to several factors but people think I"m insane. It's all too commercialized. People are usually broke after Christmas and they spend until spring to pay off the debt they accumulated. Same goes with stupid birthdays. I get for kids it's a big deal but for adults. I have two Christmas parties where someone got drunk and started shit in our family. This past Christmas one of my uncles went nuts on someone, I'm glad I wasn't there.
I remember when I was around 9 years old when I told my classmate Santa Claus wasn't real and the look on his face.
What's your thoughts on Valentines day? That's another shitty day.

I think holidays are good in a sense that they break up the year and give us something to look forward to. But on the other hand commercialism has kinda ruined holidays in the sense that the expectations are too high which leads to a lot of let downs. Valentine's day leaves a lot of people feeling lonely.. and the ones who aren't alone if their partner doesn't give them chocolates, roses, a giant teddy bear, a diamond necklace and reservations at a nice restaurant they feel let down. If only it was less about the amount of money someone can spend and more about the people we spend it with.

If you do your research diamonds are really worthless, it's all in the marketing that gets women into it.
You mean it leaves a lot of women lonely. Some evil men take it to their advantage of that though by asking women on the last minute to have sex on Valentines day.

This year was weird for me because I recently moved to New Zealand (I'm from Canada), so Christmas was A) In the middle of summer and B) I wasn't around any of my friends or family this year. The bf and I went to his family's place for New Zealand christmas but the next day I was home all by myself while he went to work. It really hit home and I felt like a big baby! I just basically had beers and sat on cam all day but it was bittersweet for sure.
