Elite: Dangerous

Has anyone played it? Do they like it?

I loved the original, and it must have been one of the first games I spent 100's of hours playing, but I haven't made my mind up about this one.

I have it since the beta, it's pretty fun for an elite game if you're into Elite you'll love it. If you're a casual modern gamer you will bitch about every immersion creating mechanic in the game. The rage from some people on the forums about how hard the game is is classic.

Yeah, its meant to be played with a full HOTAS setup and a head tracking do-hicky for best results. Its really not a mouse and keyboard game.

Seriously considering buying this, I first played Elite when it came out on cassette for the BBC Micro, then the 5.25" floppy disk version once I'd managed to save up enough money to buy the disk upgrade for the computer - I was about 16 at the time, I remember taking the computer to as shop in London (or rather, getting my parents to take me and the computer as there was no transport from the village where we lived) to get the disk controller chips soldered in on the day of Live Aid.

Played it loads, subsequently bought both Frontier and First encounters, the latter being so bugged I gave up in the end (odd that the wikipedia page makes no mention of the bugs).

Oh yes, the hours spent to get from Harmless to Elite and trading and scooping till you had enough money to maxx out your Cobra.. I may buy it too... Looks excellent..

i've been lusting over this one. i keep hearing you just cant play it without a flight stick though, any opinions?
