Okay, I've been searching, but didn't find topic about this new show. Hey, really nobody watching it? I know, I know.. it's kinda same detective-story, but omg, I love it from first episode. Jonny Lee Miller as "modern" Holmes is awesome. Of course, it is just first season, but still think it's pretty amazing. I think that here should be some other people who like this show. :hello2:

Sounds good! I haven't seen it yet but I love shows with that sort of framework. The genius detective with lots of eccentricities.

I kind of avoided it as the trailers made it look like a shitty American version of BBC's Sherlock (which is brilliant and should be watched by everyone). I didn't like that they made Watson a woman. I'm guessing Sherlock and Watson tease sexual tension for a season and then engage in coitus, at which point the show starts to resemble every other show that has a man and a woman as it's central characters.
I am basing all of this on the 30 second trailer I saw so could be way off :-D

I bet they were afraid religious groups would boycott the show if they kept Watson a man and still had the sexual tension they always had together.

Well, actually I didn't see BBC's Sherlock Holmes (maybe I should watch it later, when I'll have time), but hmm.. Maybe, if they didn't serve it like "modern Sherlock Holmes and Watson" it would be better. I just really like story-line, different crimes and etc. (I'm not fan of detective-series, so I don't watch them often (Only Bones and Body of Proof)), as well, I like Lucy Liu, I think she is pretty nice actress. Again, it's just first season, not sure what will be next, but so far - it's pretty nice and interesting.

About sexual tension.. mm :D for me - every show has it, and it's interesting to see how relationships will develop :)

I saw the first few episodes of Elementary, but have fallen away from it lately. So far, it just seems like such a missed opportunity. They've got a recognizable property with plenty of material to draw from, they've got a great cast, and they've got the cash to make it all slick and stylish. Yet, what do they do with it? Just another CBS procedural, same as all the rest, so far. I'll probably give it another shot mid-season, but I was kinda hoping for something different with this, like maybe something with longer story arcs. No dice, though. Disappointing.

I too was very skeptical at first (due to the Sherlock name and previews) but it's one of the few shows I like, well written and has a good mix of humor and drama. It's a nice twist on the typical Sherlock Holmes that wouldn't be the same without Lucy Liu. :thumbleft:

Jonny Lee Miller is one of my all-time favorite actors (ever since Hackers) and he has managed to keep his looks well (it felt like touch and go there, for awhile, as his hairline started receding) so it's good to know that the show is a hit, and he's got a steady gig for awhile. It took me some time for me to allow myself to be charmed by Lucy Liu, but as she's matured, she's gotten much better, and she is pretty great on that show. The two definitely have nice chemistry together.

I like the show, especially as they have added more parts of the mythos as they've gone along.

It does suffer from the same drawback Castle does though, which is the "crime of the week" problem. The only reason I still watch Castle is because I like the actors. I much prefer shows that focus on a story arc over the entire season (say Walking Dead for example), rather than story of the week shows.

As far as comparison with Sherlock, the advantage Sherlock has going for it is the long format.

I love Elementary. Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu have great chemistry together without making it seem awkward that Watson isn't man. I was worried about "sexual tension" before I started watching the show, and I still think it would ruin the dynamic if they end up sleeping together so i'm crossing my fingers for that to not happen to this show EVER.

being a sherlock holmes fan from way back ( basil rathbone is still the man!) and the original books are still the best, i was wierded out by a female watson. ive slowly gotten over that part of it... mostly. if lucy wasnt so damn good in the role i probably wouldnt have.

that being said i still miss the original dynamic between the characters. there is something a little off when you translate the "bromance" of watson and holmes to a male/female pairing. but so far theyve written it quite well. the last episode had holmes asking ( after grabbing some of watson's clothing to hurry her awake) " shall i choose some underthings for you as well?" they chose not to have a sterotypical female reaction, which made it work.

as long as they dont try to turn them into a romantic couple i think tit will be a good show. if that happens? im out lol. every damn show in the world has already done it... even bones which didnt need it. i mean come on, scully and mulder never boned and look how well that turned out

It's on my very short 'must watch if at all possible' TV list.
I'm not much of a Lucy Liu fan, but so far shes showing a bit of a different side to her usual character roll type and making this work.

Dunno weather its me growing up with Sherlock Holmes, here in he UK but I absolutely hated it, Some things do not travel across the Atlantic well and this is one of them! As Bob has said, Sherlock was epic

Still watching this show. Its faithful to the ethos of Holmes without the slavish copying the BBC Sherlock does. I like all of the characters and the conversion of both Moriarty and Watson to females is a nice touch, especially with Natalie Dormer and Lucy Liu in the roles. So much better than that implausible pile of crap across the pond.
