Hi guys!

I recently signed up for MFC, yet have been afraid to go live because I realized my internet connection sucks :(. I would really like to get started so I can slowly build up a fan base, but I am just so worried my live shows will be choppy.

I called my internet provider, as well as couple others in the area, and it seems that I have the fastest I can get where I live... which is not exactly in a city. At the moment here are the stats based on Speedtest.net:

PING: 67ms
Download: 1.26 Mbps
Upload: 0.86 Mbps

I use WiFi on my Mac and was planning on starting out with just my built in camera. I was wondering if a thunderbolt adapter connected to Ethernet would help speed? What else I can do in this situation, besides wait until I move (which could be a while)?

When you start on MFC, ideally you will have the common technical issues sorted out. Have you tried Skype with friends to see how your cam feed works over your connection? It's not really the same, but if you have a problem using Skype, you will likely have problems with MFC, too.

Unless you go HD (which is not necessary) your ping and bandwidth should be good enough for MFC, where even "HD" is only 480p. If your WiFi is reliable, it should be okay to use and would work well if you like to move your computer around a lot, but a wired connection is obviously less prone to interference.

If MFC is your first choice, you might still want to try another site first, just to get the feel of being on camera in front of a bunch of pervs, unless you are sure that you already know what you're doing. A good first impression will make a big difference on MFC, simply because your first hours on MFC will have a big impact on your ranking. You can make that up, but it's much better not to have to.

Since you're already registered on MFC, you should really go ahead and register as a model on this forum for access to Models Only. There's no such thing as being too well prepared.

Thank you for the help Sevrin! I will try out Skype and see how it goes. I haven't used it since I got a Mac, I just Face Time.

MFC would be my first cam site, and I really would like to make a good first impression. I am not sure what other sites would be best to start out on for the type of modeling I am planning on doing. Once I get accepted for model statues I can ask there ;).

As for being comfortable on cam, I think I would be ok, as I have many years of experience in a related field... but it certainly wouldn't hurt to try it out somewhere else first. I do think MFC is where I eventually want to focus though. I really like the public/social atmosphere and how creative some of the models are. I have been a lurker there for some time, haha!

I was able to Skype clearly with my boyfriend and another friend, so I will take that as a good sign.

I have not officially gone live on MFC. I'm waiting until I am done with a business trip I am on, then I will update again at that time (about 10 days) ;).

Sorry for the late update! I finally went on cam for the first time this afternoon and it went really well :).

I took your advice, Natalia, and did Chaturbate instead of jumping right into MFC. I did better than I thought I would and made my goal for the day. I am not at my home base right now, so my internet speeds were a little faster--- 27ms Ping, 22.5 mbps Download, and 5.14 mbps Upload.

I had so much fun... time went by really fast. I can see how it might be hard to always have to pay attention to cam score. I think I was on for about 5.5 hours.
