I'd say yes. I enjoy sex greatly but in TV, movies and books its always described as this earth shattering, headboard shaking, mind blowing, fireworks experience. And sure, sometimes it is, but that's not everytime or even most of the time for a lot of people. Sometimes it's just a mutual release for two (or more) people that are attracted to each other.
Why do Movies and TV shows portray sex as being a huge deal?

Why do Movies and TV shows portray sex as being a huge deal?

I'd say there's a few key reasons:
- TV/movies are intended as an escape mechanism/entertainment, so everything on it is amplified - sex, violence, drama.. If it weren't, fewer people would focus on those mediums since it would be closer to their lives and something they could do at home.
- The way stories are told, the sex needs to be really awesome - if you spent several seasons (or a large part of the movie) watching that sexual tension or relationship build up, I'm sure most people would be pretty annoyed if then the characters had 'boring' sex. (I've seen that before, but it was in a comedy)
- and then there's the representation of one night stands/affairs/etc - for those, it is helpful to portray the sex as really awesome as a 'justification' for behaviours that can be seen by society as 'bad' (basically the argument that the sex was so damn awesome that it didn't matter that it was socially/morally wrong).

And finally..
- because society puts this crazy notion in our heads that sex is this insanely super awesome thing so it is not surprising that art represents that idea.
