Do you have a password on your cell? If so, why?

I currently do not have my phone password locked.

Reasons:
1. I don't like the idea of having to punch in a password every time I want to look at my phone.
2. I don't give a shit if somebody wants to look at my phone and read the texts or look at the pictures. Sure there is some sketchy stuff, but if you are going to be mortified by what you find, that's on you.

I could see it for security reasons if you lost your phone perhaps?

But me personally I just don't think the hassle is worth it.

How about everyone else?

I generally do, because I use an android which means my phone is constantly logged in to my main gmail account. Don't want anyone hacking that shit.

When I didn't use a smartphone, or when I used to use the Symbian OS smartphones, I didn't worry about a password. In Symbian, no one would know how to use it anyway, and with non-smartphones, what the hell are they going to do? Call my friends? Use all my unlimited minutes/unlimited text messages?

I don't but I should. It stays logged in to Facebook and Fetlife, if they haven't booted me. But that's not why I should lock it. I just have a lot of pictures of the wife and some others that strangers probably shouldn't see.

I guess I haven't because I'm afraid I'll forget the password and then those pics are useless. And if I suddenly popped a lock on my phone, the wife be like "WHAT THE FUCK?!" Because she reads from time to time.

I do. My boyfriend knows the password, so it's not to hide anything from him, but from every other person in my life. They are NOSY. Nosy mother, nosy brother, nosy friends. I am also unfortunate enough to frequently be in the company of the type of stranger who likes to grab other people's phones and peruse them without permission. My iPhone is constantly logged into MFC, ACF, my various gmail accounts, and also has a DropBox app chock-full of sexy videos and pics. So...yes. I am password-ed.

My personal phone uses a pattern unlock. It's partially because I've always liked the pattern unlock and partially because my MFC Twitter is attached to that phone. My work phone is a simple slide to unlock. Both are attached to my Dropbox account, but unfortunately mine doesn't sound nearly as exciting as LilyEvans'.

I have had both number code and pattern lock on mine. The number code wasn't bad cause it was my fav # that no one but me knows. But was just a pain to do just to look at something on my phone. The pattern stayed till one day while driving I needed to make a phone call, I drive a manual and was in traffic. It crosses my mind now and then if I lost my phone but its not worth the hassle.

There are apps that will keep your passwords in one place that is itself password protected. So its like LoTR....One Password to rule them all.(sorry I've seen the Hobbit twice now)

Fuck yeah I do! If I lost my phone and it wasn't locked, someone could potentially have access to a lot of my personal information. I don't need the hassle of all that. Its totally worth taking 2 - 3 seconds to put in my password every time I need to access my phone.

I do for the same reason as Joe. Mine's logged in to Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, Napster, my email account, etc. and may or may not have naked photos of me on it (it doesn't, but what if it did?? :?). If I lose it, or it gets stolen, I'd rather not have the ballache of having to replace a phone, re-enter everyone's contact details, lose all my (non-nude) photos, etc. be compunded by having to worry about my privacy being compromised on top of that.

and I keep it off for extended periods of time, I rarely use it. It is just filled with voicemails from my my ma saying the same thing.

My personal phone is password locked, because if it isn't and any old Tom, Dick or Harry picks it up - they can call Bangalore sex lines with it (I do have phone insurance, but it is expensive and thinking of cancelling AND it only covers you if you report it stolen within 24 hours).

Essentially that phone contains information. There are 3 email accounts through which passwords may be reset for any number of online services which have my credit card details stored (amazon and many other online stores). Through those they can also find my home address, through my Google maps they could find out locations I've been to, through my address book they can find other people's names/addresses and locations.

No offence to people who don't lock their phones - but it is very silly not to do so. "I don't have anything to lose" - but the people in your address book/phone book may. I mean imagine they had your friends address from the address book and texted "where are you?" to get the reply "at work". In that case, break in to their house - which you've handily given them the address to...

As for my work phone - of course it does. If it didn't, I'd be out of my job. Corporate emails have several levels of protective marking - confidential and others. Losing the phone and having it accessed could give information to newspapers or individuals, criminals and others about corporate business, direction, actions and more. Company phones should always have locks imo (we have blackberries, hence emails etc). I guess if all the phone could do was call something then maybe they'd not care so much.

If you don't lock your phone, then do you also not set a burglar alarm when you leave your house?

Lastly, a phone should always have some method of keypad activation - to prevent those pocket dialings from occurring.

It has messages or emails that contain my full legal name and address
It contains names and addresses of people I care about
It has login info for all my email and social network accounts, as well as my bills etc.
I dont want someone finding that shit. I can replace a phone, I cant replace my privacy.

I should also note, the only 'important' stuff on my phone are my parents' numbers, BJ's number, my doctor's number and a few pg-13 pictures of my butt/boobs. :lol: My phone can't access the internet and doesn't have any passwords, emails or any of that jazz on it. I can text, make calls, take calls and take pictures, but that's about all it does. It can play music, but I don't have more than 5 Otis Redding songs on there so that feature doesn't get used.

If someone did ever steal my phone, they'd probably wonder who "Jerkface", "Buttmunch" and "R" were and why the heck there were dog teeth marks all over it. They'd probably call one of my emergency contacts and ask if they could pay to return the phone to me. :lol:

I also found out, first hand, that having a password protected phone comes in handy when the cops think you've been involved in criminal activity and they take your phone thinking there will be incriminating evidence on it. Since they didn't have a warrant, they couldn't access my phone! :mrgreen:

Yeah... I've decided I definitely need to wipe off the screen before I ever let me phone leave my hands... so my pattern isn't visible as a smudge on my screen. >_>

I use my phone for company, as well as personal texts and emails, so it would be irresponsible not to protect it. My phone has a numeric pass code, and my texts have a swipe code. It's not absolute protection, but it's better than nothing.

I'm all sorts of paranoid about losing my phone and someone having access to a lot of personal information so I use the facial recognition lock on my cell. When you select that option, you have to pick up a back-up pattern lock in case facial recognition fails and you have to enter in a numeric passcode that has to be entered whenever the pattern lock is entered.

Someone would give up from boredom and/or smash my cell phone into pieces before they ever got into it.
