Horror has definitely gone downhill. I didn't even consider it an American thing until Bianca mentioned it.

It's definitely American horror. All it is these days is slasher films and franchises piggybacking off their predecessors.

A recent gem I like is "It Follows," it's so different and freaked the hell out of me. I like creature horror movies and mysterious ones. I hate slasher films and don't really consider them horror but moreso torture porn.

Ive noticed a huge decline in slasher films in recent years. These days they are almost always direct to video.

My favorite horror movie of all time is Pumpkinhead! I can go on for an hour about the creature effects and how genius they were but I won’t... haha.
Sci-fi horror like predator and aliens are also tops! Aliens is probably my second favorite creature movie ever.

Right there with ya with Aliens and Predator.

Haven't seen Pumpkinhead because I thought it looked lame but will now add it to my watch list.

If you enjoy the monster itself as much as I do, you’ll probably like it. Watch his face as the movie goes on, it’s cool

I love horror, especially psychological, but I kinda find with scary films as a whole that I'll get desensitized if I watch too much all at once? Like I appreciate the films less because I'll be less immersed and will expect scares more so they don't have the same impact. And it's so easy to be overly nostalgic about older movies because they literally still give me nightmares (looking at you Shining) because I saw them at a time where I had nothing to compare it to :haha: So I'm trying to space out my horror watching now and will definitely watch some of the films you guys all recommending! Horror/suspenseful video games still destroy me in the same way old movies did too, something about controlling the action yourself is soooo much worse:worried:

Omgg I'm awful for binge watching horror films too :haha:
I also enjoy a good horror-comedy every once in a while
The Devil's Rejects, Starry Eyes, Don't Kill It, The Babadook, Little Evil, and 31 are a few of my favs
I always watch for the "feeling" (that may not be a thing) so I tend to also like some pretty shitty movies

Add 'Shaun of the Dead' to your watch list if you haven't seen it yet.

Simon Pegg movies are usually top notch and this is no exception. For some reason, I usually appreciate British humor more than our homegrown versions.

"Shaun of the Dead" is a great movie. One of my "must watch annually" movies.

Another is Zombieland and "Warm Bodies" is kind of a Horror/Rom-Com if you will.

Oh man, if y’all like horror/comedy “Fido” is a must! It’s SO good

If we're recommending horror/comedy I freaking love Scream Queens. It does such a good job of satirizing old horror tropes while still being fresh and I jumped at least a few times haha

EDIT I see now that this was a thread titled "horror movies" and not recommend tv shows that I also enjoy that have horror themes so ignore if you want hahaha

Forgive me for jumping off topic for a moment but there's been enough people mentioning Predator that I have to take a moment and ensure that you've all seen the musical version.

Ladies and Gentlemen, for your viewing pleasure I present to you...
