I mean do you carry personal protective devices that are marketed to women. What's the point of having these devices if you're having someone else holding them?
Mace?
Define women's mace VS. a man's mace?
Most of those things are illegal here. I think even if it were legal I'd be scared to carry anything like mace. Knowing how clumsy I am I'd end up spraying myself in the face.
I remember a police officer once saying that you've gotta be careful with pepper spray, because if it happens to be windy outside, the pepper spray could easily end up hitting you, the victim, in the face.
I was in a karaoke bar once, where these guys had gotten into a fight. One of them sprayed the other guy with it, and suddenly all of us in that room started coughing (We could feel it in our throats) and had to get outta there quickly.
Duly noted, I am carrying Wasabi, Jalapeno, and a fire extinguisher. It's because I'm flying to Colombia in 3 weeks, so I'll simply tell the border patrol it's for personal use...I worked as a line cook in a casino all through high school. One night, chef decided to make a sashimi special complete with a big bowl of wasabi. That bowl got sent to the dishwasher with specific instructions to wash with care. Instead, he hit it with the boiling hot water spray nozzle which created enough wasabi steam to "mace" him and two other waiters who were dropping off dishes.
My lesson from the experience: always carry wasabi paste and a hot water thermos for protection.
Going to sound kind of nuts here, but when I had to look after my horse and go up to his field in the dark I would often carry a knife. I also had one of those super heavy big torches so if someone did try to attack me I could clock them. I am talking like pitch dark on a footpath, where no one would hear me scream if there were someone about who took an opportunity to attack me. The knife I used was also just the little one I used for opening hay bales and stuff, so I wasn't like deliberately bringing a knife with me to the stables, it was more that it got dark and I was nervous and wanted some sort of feeling that I might have some defense. Bearing in mind that I used to have to walk up to the creepiest open barn stables after dark to bring the horses in to feed them with no one about and only a shitty generator for light, though close enough to a town that there might have been wanderers. It looked like exactly the sort of place someone might get murdered.
Other than that, no I do not carry any form of weaponry item for defence. I will walk in the centre of the road though in areas where people could easily grab me and use various safety tactics to try to prevent myself being attacked.
You consider a headband light when you're out at night like that? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014JUMRR0/
Keeps your hands free and great for when you need focused light indoors also.
I have mace and a pocket knife.
No but after reading the thread about the freeloader dude that wants to approach the cam model at the cafe I'm starting to think I should.
