Nope, I didn't go to prom! We don't have homecoming here.

I don't really regret not going.

I wondered what the experience would be like for a bit, but other formal dances were lackluster and my boyfriend didn't wanna go either.

I did. I went to homecoming my freshman year in gloriously awkward goth kid glory and didn't go back to a school dance until senior prom when I took my then-girlfriend as my date, which was scandalous at my small school. It was kind of a "meh" thing... maybe this is just because I am an old jaded grownup, but I honestly couldn't imagine myself enjoying dancing without some sort of social lubricant anymore. I've always leaned more toward questionable punk shows at even more questionable dive bars so it is kind of funny to look back at that era. If you didn't go, you weren't really missing out. I have a degree but I never did the traditional college thing--- always lived off campus and did my own stuff and I don't really regret that either.

I mean, this is just all in my opinion, of course. I know a lot of people had a ton of fun in highschool and college. I did too, just not necessarily through school-sanctioned events.

Yup, went to homecoming freshman year solo with a group of girlfriends, and senior year I went to homecoming and prom with a guy friend of mine. It was fun because I didn't have a boyfriend at the time and I didn't have the nervousness that comes with going with someone you barely know. :)

Yep, dances were pretty much the only time I was allowed to leave the house at night. I just went and if friends showed up, which they usually did, I'd dance with them, if not, I'd just dance by myself because it's fun.

We never had homecoming (I think it's a football thing?) but I did go to my senior prom, which was the only prom. It was an alright time but not super memorable.

Yup. Went to 3 homecomings and the Jr &Sr proms in HS.. I was the prime sports photog for 3 years and as such got a free pass to all the events as well as the silly things like tux rentals. They also covered the limo for my girl n me during my Sr prom.
Still focusing on missed HS events are ya Guy? :(

I skipped the proms, but I loved going to dances, especially homecoming. Great high school memories. As the president of the radio club, I even DJ'd a lot of school dances, actually.

No. I didn't do any socializing. I kind of had to go to a school a bus ride away and I really really wanted to get home after school before dark so i had to catch the bus back kinda quick. I never really had any time to socialize as I was spending most of the times kids spent socializing walking to a bus and riding it and walking home and then doing homework and then working at a donut shop on the weekends from 4:00 in the morning to noonish. I then spent the rest of the weekend nights smelling like grease from the fry pit (that stuff is hard to get off you).

Maybe if my parents would have let me go to the public school with girls that was ten minutes away I might have had a chance at doing those kind of things but, oh well.--It gives me a different perspective on reality which I kind of enjoy these days (I've seen a lot of movies with proms and homecomings and I really can't imagine being a part of them--probably because they were painted in a bad light and also because I never went).

in NZ we have school ball's. i did mine... i made my dress.

Honestly i don't remember much of it, except that i looked like a vampire saloon girl. And the girl i went with wore sneakers under her ballgown and i thought that was badass.

We don't have homecoming here but I went to my prom, it was a fun night but not the huge occasion like the movies make it out to be.

Intead if wasting time and energy feeling sad about missed events from your past, which it is impossible to change now, focus your energy on things you want to do now and work towards doing them instead,

I missed prom and other senior events. I was working full time at 16, then returned to finish high school and qualify for university at 20 (an adult college).

I was not popular in school but I went to most of the dances with my friends. I had tons of fun with my friends and we would go to the movies after the dances. In addition, I was the only one in the history of my school to go stag to my junior prom. You see, guys asked me to the prom but I did not want to go with anyone. Some people heard of my plan and decided that they would help me with this goal. A limo service donated a free 12 hour limo service to me for my junior prom after I helped them with phonathon once. In addition, this naval officer decided to escort me throughout the prom and eat dinner with me. However, I did not dance with him and we had fun. So, yup...I attended almost every high school dance and had a blast. In college, I went to every type of nightclub and I had a blast. Guy, it is never too late to have fun and go out clubbing. :cat:

I was super unpopular in high school but still had a great group of friends that I dragged to every dance. I probably attended 20 plus dances (my school and another school nearby) and went to prom every year. For me it was just an awesome excuse to pamper myself and spend time with the girls getting ready. Never usually had a date but it never bothered me! I still laugh when I see pictures of my awkward brace face pics. LOL

No, can't say I did. As a matter of fact the first school dance I attended was as a chaperone my first year teaching. I can't imagine any of the dances I missed were as, ummm, personally enjoyable as that night :)

Homecoming? No. Senior prom? Yes, because a teenager's senior year of high school was a big deal and very exciting time. Senior year was also the only time I was interested in having a yearbook (to be able to look through it and see pics of fellow classmates, and reminisce).

Also, there is something special about hearing the song "Make Them Hear You" (Ragtime) at your high school graduation. #Chills I'm gonna be a sniffling mess at my son's graduation in a few years.

You didn't miss much. Teenagers congregating in large groups with too much hair and body product are gross.

Very fond memories of high school dances. Didn't ever really do any dancing besides the slow songs. Was and still am a terrible dancer. The fun came once you got back to the house you started at and could change into more comfortable clothes.

I went to only two homecomings and my senior prom.

I went to a religious school with the Town of Footloose rules. NO DANCING. So my homecomings were a dinner and how to be a good Catholic skit. My senior year, I was in a new school, so that was a dance. They gave us Kennywood tickets so they didn't have to host an after prom.

Why do movies make prom look like a big deal?
