Just curious what everyone thinks is a reasonable time for a custom video to be produced. At what time do I feel like I got ripped off.

When I do a custom I tell them 1-7 days. I typically never do them later than that ever unless something crazy came up & even then I'd give an update email & apology. I don't like to leave anyone hanging and pretty much try to finish them as soon as I can. I know some girls who say 2 weeks or more and that works for them. I think whether you're being ripped off or not lies in if she gave you an actual time frame she'd be finished or she's not replying to your messages for an update on the video status.

I think as long as a time frame is known to both the member and the model, it can vary.

I agree with this.

It depends= is it solo? it it g/g or b/g (most the times girls have to coordinate with other models and that shit takes time), Did you want special effects or something special to be done with the video? Sometimes my customs with special effects can take me a week or 2. I always quote the guy a time frame though! Like if a guy hands me a huge script , wants a bunch of stuff then yes it will take some time. If he ordered something simple, it may take me 2-7 days. It still takes time to film a custom (mine take hours sometimes) because certain angles need to be right and stuff like that. Also editing/rendering takes time as well.

Short answer is there should always be a time frame discussed beforehand. I have one model that takes 3 weeks to make one another that takes 4 days. In both cases they tell me beforehand and if professional let you know if there's a delay. If a model is leaving you guess on a custom video you should consider a different model in the future. My most favorite model I would never ask for a custom because she's terrible with schedules and I would just end up upset in the end.

I use manyvids for custom vids because if the model takes too long and doesn't try to contact the customer in a reasonable amount of time when delayed they will refund.

I normally say 2 - 4 weeks, so that I don't feel like I need to rush the custom. My plan is usually to shoot for 2 weeks though. I would rather give them the longer time frame, and have them be happy when they receive it early, than to have them disappointed because I couldn't fulfill the request in a shorter time frame.

As far as when to start panicking about whether or not you got ripped off... I would contact the model and in a polite way, ask her for a status update. Just don't do this on a daily basis. ;-) Maybe give her a couple days to reply in case she is busy. Hopefully she will give you a time frame on when you can expect to receive it.

I usually say two weeks. I normally get it done before that, but I don't like to feel rushed.

I tell everyone two weeks max, and then tell them I usually finish in 3-5 days. That way I have both an extended time frame in case something comes up, as well as my average time frame so they can be super happy when they get the video early.

If a month has passed, though, and you never discussed a time frame with the model beforehand, I think it's reasonable to ask them what's up.
