Still think rehab would be a better plan. Not positive, but I would think those going into rehab would have a smaller chance of relapsing. Better to get clean(like for reals clean) instead of taking methadone your whole life.

You don't take methadone your whole life if you go to a methadone clinic or outpatient rehab. They give you a starter dose which basically just makes your withdrawal more tolerable. Then they gradually ramp down your dosage until you're completely off of it.
That's why I was saying I hope she's not dosing herself and is actually seeking treatment.

I think it's a real shame that most countries choose to give out methadone rather than heroin itself. Methadone is a horrible drug that makes the user ill by itself. It's also a harder drug to get off than heroin if you take the amounts that a heavy heroin user would need to get off the drug, it's addiction levels are about the same, but the detox effect it gives your body are worse. It's just stupid. Heroin treatments have been proven to work better than methadone treatments. Seeing as methadone is just as if not sometimes more bad for you as heroin the only reason it makes sense is because heroin is illegal.

Here's a link to a website about Switzerland's problem and how they reduced their problems dramatically, partially because of using heroin to ween patients off.

Of course another bonus of using heroin itself is that it attracts more heroin addicts to go and collect their dose, meaning they can get clean needles, counselling and any help they might need, and of course encouragement to quit their addiction.

Actually I don't think anyone was talking about Romania. This has nothing to do with that country. She got addicted in England according to her gofundme page. It doesn't mention where she's at now as far as I can see. And the OP never mentioned Romania either. And Romania hasn't been mentioned by anyone else in the thread.
