Usually somewhere between flippant and glib.
Just saw some people camping out in front of Best Buy all ready! Every year it seems to get worse. Apparently, Target is opening at midnight on Thanksgiving now too.

It's getting a little redonkulous IMO.

What say you?

Given the current state of the economy, it's kinda doubtful they had actual jobs. From what I heard, they were trying to get deals on flat screen TVs.

I guess my major concern is the depths that commercialism is encroaching on what most people consider family time holidays. If peeps wanna spend days of concrete winter camping to save a few bucks on something they want, then go for it. Then you have all the people that get hurt or worse in stampedes just for a sale on something. It just seems a little crazy to me. :twocents-02cents:

Best Buy will also be opening at midnight just to add to the craziness.

I'll be doing some shopping on Black Friday but not for anything major, probably just a videogame or two. And not at midnight, it's not worth getting trampled by fat mothers filled with turkey and pumpkin pie trying to get good deals on HDTV's.

Locally the WallyWorld and a few other soulless mega stores had the Christmas crap on the shelves BEFORE HALLOWEEN .. That turns my stomach and makes me resent not only the commercialism of the season but the holiday as well that is supposed to be a joyful time for families. Its almost completely obliterated any religious connotation that the 'politically correct offend no one' asshats may have overlooked and left alone.
I have gone out on a few of the black Fridays in years past just to watch the fat idiots scrambling. To me saving a few bucks isn't worth the stress of the so called "event" of black Friday. I have no problem finding great deals on everything I need throughout the year. Same goes for the "Tax Free" days.. Not worth the throngs of people and waiting in lines.

I dont know about the rest of the other Best Buy stores but mine is pretty calm, in the past years ive seen people line up at 5pm to get in at 6 am, one year I actually showed up at 4:30 am and got in about 6:30 am.

Target and other major retail stores are doing midnight openings on Black Friday...Im thinking I want a 50 inch HD 1080p TV for gaming in my bedroom for $500 ...I might go with the midnight crowd haha...

I can't be the only person who would rather just pay full price than have to deal with the huge load of crap and frustration that is Black Friday.

You're not!

A saying from World of Warcraft (I don't know where the original quote came from) that sticks with me forever is "Time is money, friend!"

So yeah, saving a few dollars here and there isn't worth the time waiting in line and effort dealing with the crazed crowds for me. If it's something phenomenal, I'd consider it, but it would have to be like CRAZY PHENOMENAL savings on something I was absolutely in dire need of.

I did sidewalk camp for a Wii when they launched and I'd never do it again.

Since a lot of online store have Black Friday sales, some of the people venturing out to the brick and mortar stores must want or need the "thrill of the hunt" thing.

Last year I just bought what I wanted online for the Black Friday price and got free shipping. I do not see any reason to stand in those long lines or fight the crowds.

going to target at midnight friday to attempt to buy a 40 inch 1080p lcd hdtv for $265 ... i really hope i can get one haha... i need it for gaming...

I love gorging on Thanksgiving too much to do any of that stuff. Besides, except for last year I've spent every single Thanksgiving in the hospital for the last 10 years. I'm too excited to get my eating on to bother with anything to do with Black Friday. The only part of Black Friday that I like is the leftovers.

You'd better get overtime, or holiday pay, or some sort of bonus for that!

I noticed something... more and more people every year are doing Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday. Do you think Black Friday has anything to do with that?

I find it really upsetting. Thanksgiving is on a Thursday, so it's not Thanksgiving dinner unless it's on THURSDAY!

This is what always amazes me :D

People see a sale, and think "yes, grab a bargain" and so spend something they do not have - money. You go from having money to not having money, and all because you think you are saving money. But you've spent it when you wouldn't otherwise.

Sales are a great way of fooling people who don't have much cash to part with what cash they do have through buying things they don't need - because they think they're saving money... by spending it. Events like special opening and creating a frenzy help to achieve this as they do not believe they have time to really consider what they're doing - pause and you may miss out. It's all about "grabbing a bargain" - even if it's something you'd never have bought otherwise.

People are idiots.

Canada doesn't have Black Friday since our Thanksgiving is in October, but earlier this week I had a customer call and ask if we were doing Black Friday sales. Only a matter of time before it creeps over the border.

I've never been to these kind of sales but I've always figured there's a few heavily discounted items to get people in the door and in a mood to spend - but most won't get one of the huge bargains - and then on top of it they throw a regular sale. Impulse and anticipation takes care of the rest.

ZOMGAAAWD I saved 30% on something I would never have spent money on normally!

Nah, just regular pay :/ I AM working on Thanksgiving though (for some reason, a clothing store is open on Thanksgiving) and will be getting time and a half.

I haven't heard of anyone doing Thanksgiving on a Wednesday, but maybe Black Friday sales do have something to do with it. I know that when I lived at home, we'd do Thanksgiving early sometimes because my mom is a nurse and had to work every other Thanksgiving so then we could all have Thanksgiving dinner together that way.

I too remember the various people over the years trampled and crushed to death to get into the stores. My mom used to tell me of the fights in store for cabbage patch dolls and such lol. Granted they have done alot to keep that down now as best they can. Only allowing a certain amount of people in the store at once stops the stampedes mostly. Also now they hand out wristbands or tickets in line before they open so youre guaranteed to get what you came for if youre early enough in line.
2 years ago was the first and only time i ever did the black friday shopping. Old Navy was giving away Lego Rockband if you spent 20 in store you got the game for free. I wanted it so i went. They were opening up at like 2 am too. I got in line around midnight and was already the 50th person in line. NUTS!! (I had to drive by best buy to get to the old navy and they didnt open till 6 and the line was over 200 people already) I ended up getting it though thank gosh. Many many behind me didnt though. The store was also only allowing so many people in store at one time. Way to many in my opinion as it was still shoulder to shoulder pushing just to shop but i got out within 30 minutes and was on my way home. It was worth it to me but thats the only time ive ever done one. I havent seen a sale yet that makes me want to wander out into the madness again.
Also i know they jack up the prices before the sale anyway so you never really are getting that 30 - 50% off in reality. Ill just wait to get the new TV and laptop i need another day when the sale price is actually a real sale. :)

I refuse to leave my house! I don't want to get nailed in the skull by an old lady trying to buy a GIFT for her grandson! Yes, the craziness of Black Friday that actually has resulted in MURDER revolves around getting gifts for others! WTF???? This! This is one of the reasons I'm a super grinch and hate the holidays! It's terribly long and does horrible things to people!

It's a common goblin saying. I love the goblins.

Anyways, I would also rather pay full price than go into Black Friday in any store. I accidentally went to Black Friday a few years ago at 2 AM or so at Wal*Mart on total accident. We had totally forgotten about Thanksgiving let alone Black Friday. I wanted to some how crawl inside myself & disappear. I ended up gripping the cart so hard while we carefully stepped through the crowd that it left an imprint in my hand for a day or so. It was brutal to see people get into fights/push other peoples kids out of the way to get stuff. Freaked me the hell out.

This year I plan to be cuddled by the warm glow of my computer screen & thank the gods I have left over turkey.

I am *so* glad I'm not the only one who did this! I was like "I just wanted some groceries, leave me alone!"

(not said, of course, pure thought)
