I use a service called "freedompop." While it is a free service, you purchase the phone and look at the fine print so you don't get voicemail and stuff for a cost, it does have flaws---mainly the speaking to another person part-- but I do not use the phone a lot for speaking and I do ok...I use it mainly for texting and internet with youtube being my main thing at work (with wifi it is really good and doesn't use data). When I have needed to make a call, it worked well enough that the person understood my needs (landlord, work, etc...).

This is quite similar to Cricket for me. People tell me I sound quiet/far away/muffled on the phone and I could be yelling. Luckily, I'm a weirdo that does not talk on the phone unless 1000000% necessary. My texting and 4G work just fine.

Answer: No

I'm not a fan of the postpaid cell contract model, and have contemplated moving to a prepaid service like Ting. However, I've got an old unlimited data plan, and I'm keeping that until I find a hell of a deal somewhere else, or my carrier tears my plan away from my cold, dead, hands.
