I'm still trying to find the right way to receive payments, as there seems to be a lot of ambiguity and hidden costs involved in the various methods and various websites.

does anyone on here not use USD/CAD/GBP/EURO as their local currency, but have managed to find a reliable low fees payout option?

Yes, most sites pay to Payoneer or Paxum once you eventually get approved and wait for a card to be delivered or pay exorbitant express shipping cards. You can withdraw funds in local currency at any ATM for a fee.

thanks for the reply. it's crazy how hard it is to get straight answers on what certain processes will actually cost (even the 4 banks I spoke with couldn't tell me, because they don't know what US bank(s) Pax/Pay use)

what're you typically charged for that? is it just
1. a fixed fee from Payoneer (~$1) to use the ATM for withdrawal, and
2. a currency conversion rate (e.g, int.x-rate + 2%) from the bank whose ATM you're using?

or are there fees for using the ATM with a card that doesn't belong to that bank (typical in my country with normal bank cards), and fees from the bank for the transaction in addition to a normal exchange rate (such as if you do a wire or check, they'll charge you $15-50 to put that money in your account before you can withdraw it as cash).

other than that, you're only paying
1. CB to transfer to them ($1?)
2. them to send you a card (~$45?)
3. them to load your card ($?)
4. a regular maintenance fee, or just the annual ~$45?

no cross-boarder fee (3%) like I saw on Payoneer's site?

so it should work out to be the cheapest option for a person who wants to use the service monthly or thereabouts? (cheaper than not getting the card and doing instead online transfers to your bank's account? (~$15 fee for receiving money, probably $8-50 to send the money?)

I see you are in NZ, hi from the other island just over the way.
I'm not sure on the actual bank fees, our ATMs charge $2 or $2.50 to withdraw with a card not directly from them.

Paxum fee structure in USD is slightly more favourable long term than FirstChoice(Payoneer) its all upfront though, and $90 to get a card by express. Part of the cost of doing online business unfortunately.

ATM Withdrawal Fee $2.00
ATM Balance Inquiry/Transaction History $0.50
ATM Transaction Decline $0.50
Online & POS Transaction fee $1.00
Online & POS Decline fee $0.50
Card Account Maintenance (paid yearly) $44.95
Card Load from Current Account $0.25
Card Replacement Fee (if lost/stolen or damaged) $44.95
* These fees are subject to change without notice at the discretion of the Bank.

which island is that? Tazzie? :)

I've found payoneer's fees much less upfront to find as someone not yet signed up.

so, just to be absolutely clear (are you quoting from Paxum or Payoneer?).

when I receive USD from CB into a USD credit/account on Payoneer, I just pay 25c to put it on my card, pay $45 for the card (with slow shipping option), and then I can get NZD out of an ATM only losing $2 from Payoneer, and however much the bank whose ATM I use charge to do the conversion (just the %, no extra fees)? (or Paxum, if that's who you mean)

(do you pay $45 for the card, and then $45 to cover the first year of fees? total $90 upfront? or will you only be charged after the first year (i.e., buying the card counts as paying the fees for the first year?).

it just almost sounds too good to be true...

why would offer to charge me $50*1 or $9*2 or $6+3%*3 to get the money to my bank, and then my bank charge $15 to receive it, or a random bank $25 to receive it, when instead, for only $2 (after $45 for the card), I can go to any bank's ATM and receive the cash in my currency (and then deposit it in my bank for free)? this sounds like a way better option than electronic banking and USD currency accounts and wires and so forth!! I guess this is the way everyone does it, then? bite the bullet on a big one-off fee and cross your fingers that a card shows up some day, and then you're golden?! (Careful how you answer, I may just kiss you)

*1 wire
*2 local EFT
*3 credit to existing non-website credit card

A fellow kiwi told me the other day he had issues with Payoneer no longer offering a service, and paying something like $5 to load his card. no idea about any of that.

Just north of Tassie, we like to call it Straya

That was a paste from Paxum, they can send you a card for free but they charge a $45 annual charge at the same instant. Or pay $90 + $45 for the DHL option.....but it's 10 business days before they get the card to DHL

I don't work for them and I'm no expert so feel free to check this with their customer support. I'm a bit lazy on this stuff, I figure if I get 90% of my money available easily its fair enough.

No load fee from CB, but $.25 to get from Paxum Wallet to card + $2 withdrawal fee seems right.

I'm wondering where the fee to convert from USD to NZD or AUD comes in though, i doubt thats free.

Customer Service also much more likely to answer messages in the same week :)

Hope all that helps :)

sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet :makeup::kiss::kiss::kiss:
time to order a card then I guess!! ::anxious 3 week wait::

all banks have a 'conversion rate' which they call an "exchange rate". it's not 'the exchange rate', it's the exchange rate percentage + the fee percentage they charge for the service of changing currencies for you, packaged as one number.
banks vary on this number. I used a ballpark 'sending US1,000 would net me how much' on a random day to compare all my banking options in NZ (obviously the x-rate itself varies day to day)
and I found a variance of up to $70 in my pocket between banks whose currency conversion calculators I used. ...any wonder they're so coy about their fees (by contrast, PayPal says '+2.5%' up front with a transaction, no fucking about, no needing to compare and calculate for yourself what the hidden percentage is ... moral of the story: banks are cunts).
