Hi all. I happen to have a new favorite model on mfc, and she's very 'noobish' when it comes to the entire operation. But most notably, she doesn't know virtually anything regarding the technical aspects of the webcam setup and how it relates to mfc.

She told me she's on a mac, and from what I've gathered, most Macs have very good quality web cameras. However, her mfc video is VERY grainy/oversaturated/distorted. So, instead of urging her to buy a new webcam, I figure perhaps a fellow model on here that also uses a mac might help shed some guiding light on the subject so I can share the settings with her.

Background info:

- her pictures is very granulated/pixelated/colors washed out
- she has a very good cable connection, so everything is smooth
- lighting could be better, but I'm 99 percent sure that's not the issue, as it was the same quality even when she was in a well-lit room
- no 'HD' designation from the mfc viewers perspective, so thus it appears she doesn't have it enabled

I know for my own personal external logitech webcam, there is a checkbox that enables 'automatic' settings for the webcam, which greatly sharpens the picture and makes it HD (instead of granulated), but requires good lighting or it will look choppy. Not sure about macs, however.

I don't have access to the mfc interface, so is there any particular place she should be looking to enable HD, or any particular buttons she should be looking out for in order to optimize the video stream quality?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! :)

Mac's are notoriously bad when it comes to webcamming. This might not be the case with all software but on MFC it never seems to work as well as a PC running windows. My limited experience with mac's is with one model on MFC. No matter what settings, drivers or software we tried, we could not get it to look as good as on her pc laptop and it always looked better when she booted to windows on her mac. You can try the other posts here or google searches and you may get lucky. Sorry I can't be of more help. :thumbleft:

Amber, thanks so much for the link hun!! :)

Just me: ah, that's extremely saddening to hear. :( I do know that macs typically have some of the best built-in camera optics of most webcams, but we all know that MFC doesn't exactly 'play well' with certain hardware. Hoping this is not the case, but perhaps I may be able to suggest adding a nice external cam to get around the issue.

Thanks again all and merry christmas!

Macs and HD camming dont really go well together. Usually, using a Mac means you have to run your camera through a program like ManyCams or iGlasses. Once you do that, the HD setting doesnt change the resolution at all whether its on or off.

Also, Mac cams suck compared to most of the external cams. She might wanna get an external cam, if she can.
