Where was that number debunked? I could image the industry abroad could make that number pretty easy. Just a handful of models registered on this site you can hit 1 mill combined pretty easy and this site represents maybe less than 1% of camgirls. You add stripper, prostitutes, clothing and toys(Pretty sure Lovense loves camsites this year) just name a few things. Remember the number is about the net income of sex industry not the gross income.
If you follow the links for that number back to its original source they all end up at the same poorly researched article from a decade ago, that keeps getting quoted and repeated.
Just one of the flaws in the original source, putting it in cam terms with arbitrary numbers:
They calculated it like this:
Customer spends on camsite A: 1000
Camsite pays Studio B: 500
Camsite pays billing company C: 200
Camsite pays hosting company D: 200
Studio B pays model E: 400
Model E buys toy from company F: 100
Total size of the business: 2400
Of course they did not list it like this, they listed it as:
Cam sites: 1000
Studios: 500
Billing Companies: 200
Hosting companies: 200
Models: 400
Sex toy companies: 100
Total: 2400
And then factor in that all their numbers were complete estimates.
Oh, and they did not include all sex work in their estimate, just what they considered porn companies (is Playboy porn?).
