“They want to act like they care without being creepy,” Jessica explains. “But somehow asking me about the weather while I’m taking my bra off feels creepy in its own way.”
Viewers who make a cam girl uncomfortable with graphic language or provocative questions can easily be removed from the chat. Sometimes, a cam girl will even appoint one of her viewers as a moderator for the chat room, a badge that is worn with puzzling pride and acted out with a disturbing sense of ownership. Moderators may perform the task of removing insolent viewers, but seemingly for the purpose of keeping themselves closer to the performer, rather than protecting her.
Why does the vanilla press portray camgirls as victims of constant online hell?I'm guessing/hoping many models don't feel the same as this model who was interviewed. I mean:
A lot of us do care - not to the extent of something extreme, but a lot of us people are genuinely nice human beings. We're just also wanting some fun. I am sure many of you can understand, appreciate and agree to that, right?
I do agree with this though:
Sadly, you see this far too much. They do it for their own means/gains/ends. Some of you though are very lucky to have the nice guys/ladies who DO care and are looking out for you. I do, I truly truly do. Never wanted or asked for anything in return from any ladies who ever make me mod . But obviously you have those that try exploit it on the new cam models or inexperienced, or heck, the ones that don't speak English well. In fact I will tell a short story/example:
A model I am a moderator for, I was unable to see her for a few days (all other times until this point, I had been with her most days because our schedules synced great). It seemed during this time, one guy took it upon himself to convince her to make him mod by saying (in PM) that he would get her more viewers. Sounds ok right? But he was giving her directions on positions to take, things to do etc like that which as most of us will know it's for HIS wants/needs/desires/fantasies. She even pasted the conversation from PM to me because I came on later that day she had appointed him. I was livid and tried explaining to her what he was doing (and whilst she truly trusted me, she didn't understand). Some notes: She is a really friendly, nice and caring and trusting woman. She loves to chat to colours and greys alike. Although camming is her job with a studio, she is also a trainee nurse (so she is also smart too!). She had lots of PMs etc going on, so eventually I gave up for that night and then we ended up video chatting on facebook, where I could explain to her fully what was happening. Luckily she saw/understood finally, and got rid of him. I think at first she thought I was being a jealous mod (for about 4 months I had been her only one).
I am sure you all know this type of grey person that goes round doing that, and also similar the beggar ones "make me mod" and posting all those images: they are there for THEIR OWN needs, not the models. Unfortunately many models don't understand this, and CB need to do something to help protect them from these guys.
Why does the mainstream press portray camgirls as helpless victims of constant online hell?
Why is CB's rate of paying members so low? The reason why I haven't upgraded to premium yet is because so few of the models don't use Lovense in their shows and I'm always logged out when I visit a room.Articles like these can only be written so long as Chaturbate exists. At no point reading that did I think to myself, "If they used a different camsite most of these problems go away". Chaturbate's main problem IS too many followers and people. When I hear CB models talking about their follower numbers it feels like they're actually praising their freeloaders, "Yay three guys tipped me but what's more important is the 3000 other people that just are freeloading and doing nothing for me, let's celebrate that for a bit". The need for mods and bots are masking the freeloader issue. CB maybe has the largest client audience of other sites but the lowest conversion rate to paying members. If I was a model asking CB to do ANYTHING it would be to things to help address the conversion rate issue. SM by contrast has an incredibly high conversion rate hence why models make more model often even considering the very low cut.
The articles begins with this tone that models are there for fun so long as they don't get caught to finally mentioning it's a business at the end. This is the bulk of the problem. Most the problems mentioned you hear when the model forgets it's business from start to finish.
tl;dr CB's conversion problems create other issues for the models.
They should have gave @AmberCutie a heads up before publishing.Did the writer actually reach out to any models on the forum? I feel like we would have heard about it.

They only reason why I found out about the article was because I have the word "camgirls" in my Google Alerts for news.Did the writer actually reach out to any models on the forum? I feel like we would have heard about it.
I'm not on CB, but I think this has a lot to do with the CB placement algorithm, which as I understand it, is based almost entirely on room count. Why is CB's rate of paying members so low? I'm not on Twitter, but if anyone who is wants to respond to The Daily Dot :Did the writer actually reach out to any models on the forum? I feel like we would have heard about it.
Maybe someone's tattooing forum threads on your back at night?"I was on AmberCutie the other day and read xyz". No, no you were not ON ME. Dammit it's such a pet peeve.
I have trouble taking any article seriously that repeats that long debunked fabrication that porn is a $97 billion per year industry.
Where was that number debunked? I could image the industry abroad could make that number pretty easy. Just a handful of models registered on this site you can hit 1 mill combined pretty easy and this site represents maybe less than 1% of camgirls. You add stripper, prostitutes, clothing and toys(Pretty sure Lovense loves camsites this year) just name a few things. Remember the number is about the net income of sex industry not the gross income.
BTW: I think you mean gross revenue, net income is basically profit.
No one who gets paid by the minute thinks it's "creepy" for a member to talk about the weather while you're undressing.
Yes, bb.
Keep talking.
*undresses slower and thinks really hard about the weather before answering*
Seriously though... why would talking about mundane things while in various states of consensual undress be creepy? This girl might be in the wrong line of work.
YAY! I can say I was on AmberCutie several times a day.Sigh...
I am AmberCutie. This forum is AmberCutie's Forum (ACF). Some day, people will learn how to credit that. You don't "go to ambercutie" to post stuff. You go to her damn forum.
Totally amateur writer, here.
"I was on AmberCutie the other day and read xyz". No, no you were not ON ME. Dammit it's such a pet peeve.
This is irrational, but I don't like the way the writer talks down about our viewers. Yes, we make some of the exact same sarcastic remarks from time to time (although the weather complaint is new to me), but the viewers are for us to bitch about, not some snarky writer that doesn't cam. We earned those complaints, dammit!
I also feel rather defensive when articles/documentaries about us make it sound like our customers are such pervs. Yes, dear writer, they are, but mostly in pleasant ways, and you haven't even begun to plumb the depths of perversion, so stop acting like a snob about it. After all, you were the one that wanted to write about something edgy like sex work...
Lazy reporting pure and simple.Am I the only one who thinks there wasn't much substance to that article?
"Camgirls get uncomfortable sometimes. Some of their members are pervs. Oh no!"
Okay. And what about it? The one person they talked to, Jessica, didn't honestly sound like she was comfy camming in general. Talking about the weather is creepy? I mean, I guess if I think they'll try to use that info to find my location but it's not creepy in and of itself. A little off topic maybe, but no creepy.
I'll be honest though. Everytime they referred to this as "AmberCutie" I giggled. That's just poor research right there.
