I don't think the song/video promotes rape per se, but it's more of a reflection of this "rape culture" where machismo rules, women are to be used and discarded & men are to conquer and bed as many women as possible. And that sexual assault/rape is somehow justified because the women are scantily clad and being sexual...so what do they expect? We may not think like this (hopefully not!) but in 2013, you'd be damn surprised how many people still buy into these ludicrous standards. There is a reason some idiots still buy into those beliefs and chances are, it could be their parents/peers, it could be the media. It's probably more the latter. People, from a very young age, are fed these oversexualized images of men conquering/objectifying women so what does that teach boys and girls about gender roles and what is valued among their gender?
Yes, I can already predict the rebuttal of "their parents are supposed to raise them", which is 100% true but just because something is "supposed" to be done, doesn't mean it IS being done. Most children are waaayyyy more influenced by the media than what their "lame" parents have to say. Children are damn-well hardwired to rebel against their parents anyway. Media 1, Parents 0
I can only hope that the women who are participating in these types of videos are well-aware of the standards/expectations that it places on the roles of women (as a whole) in our society, but chances are, they aren't.
