I am going to be getting started soon and have been reading like crazy so that I don't start completely blind.

From both a model and member point of view, what are the absolute must haves when you get started? I don't want to be one of those girls who blows her "new model status" by not having good quality video, etc from the start. :)

Good quality Video (lighting)
Sound (so they can hear you speak).
Set up profile (personally, I like to see a profile with info to give me an idea of what's inside the room - personality wise -likes,dislikes,fav stuff etc).

For you:
Talkative (Guessing native English speaker - talk to the guys rather than type :D ).
Self assured - know what you will do/are willing to do.
Perhaps set PM's to friends only for first day, so you get used to other stuff without having a (potential) flood of pm's creating a mind fuck.
Nearly everyone lies, and a large proportion will try to get something for free (using trickery if they can).

Just my personal view :D Everyone else will be much more helpful :D

To add on to what Zoomer said, do your research (which by joining here, you'll get a good deal of). Read the rules of the site. Look at what the other successful models do. Get a feel for how the members act. Figure out what you're comfortable with.

Also, invest in your setup. Get a good webcam. Get some good lighting.

Finally, be patient. Success doesn't come overnight. It takes time so don't get frustrated if things aren't perfect right away.

Get certified with Amber for the models only section and learn a TON about how not to waste it ;)

Waiting for approval for my accounts from a couple of cam sites, then I'll go for model access. :)

You are doing the right thing in coming here and asking questions. Getting a good start makes all the difference. "New Model" will get you some attention. You only get the "New Model" status for a very short period, and making the most of that can help your camscore a great deal early on because of how camscore is calculated.

I would suggest making your model account, sending Amber an MFC Mail with your access request and doing the Additional Model Verification snapshot right away. Then log off your model account on MFC for a while, and just perv, preferably on a premium account so that you can chat. Find successful models whose styles you think you can adapt make your own. There are many successful models and they don't all work the same way. Use this time to absorb all the Models Only goodness. Successful cam models are successful not so much because of what fills their bras or panties, but what's between their ears.

You are on an MFC-related forum here, so that's my suggestion for MFC. You mentioned that you were registering for more than one site. If you want to do more than one site, I would suggest combining MFC with an off-line site (pvts only, no free chat). You will probably be able to handle another public chat site with some experience, but it will be confusing early on. You might even want to try another site for a little while before MFC, just so that you get over that deer-in-the-headlights thing your first time on cam for pay.

When you are feeling pumped, go knock them dead.

I've already submitted for MFC. I just filled out the part of the paperwork where they ask about payment info, etc. Just waiting for them to process it so I can work on the profile and get into the model areas.

I'm also looking at Skin Video and Streammate. Stream Mate I'm not too enthusiastic about due to the percentages, but I understand its a fairly steady income. Skin Video has promise-- but being a new site, I know its likely to be slow going at first.

I tend to take the nerd approach to most new things :D. I've been known to spend hours scouring forums whenever I begin a new project. :)

Sounds like you're on the right track. When you get a profile up on MFC, send me a mail there and complete the Additional Model Verification thread (as Sevrin advised) and I'll get you in asap. There is a main sticky thread in the models section that has a ton of links to very useful posts.
