I'm considering becoming a model but I'm concerned about the noise level. I have no personal problem being vocal, I'm not even loud per say, but I do live in an apartment and I'd rather not have people complain. Talking, flirting, etc. I could give a F less if they hear me, but its privates w/ penetration that I'm thinking about.
Should I say to hell with the neighbors if they hear me every now and then or do most clients accept that as long as they can hear you, they're good?

Is there a set speed somewhere that MFC requires you to have? I know they say high speed but anyone know the numbers? I have to have a certain ISP with my apartments, and they highest they do is 40 mbps down/5 mbps up. I think it's pretty ridiculous how much I'm paying as it is and MFC still lags in free chat, but I know it could totally be worth it to upgrade.

I have to invest in a webcam, but I'm wondering if I should also get a separate computer for camming altogether? I'm thinking a netbook, super inexpensive. Not sure if that will be sufficient enough but I like the idea of one for camming, one for real life. Thoughts?

mostly, DONT BUY A NETBOOK for camming. camming from a netbook is hell. before the webcaster came out , I used to have a "cam-puter" which was an Hp mini. it sucks balls. first of all, the computer itself was slow so my feed wasnt as smooth. no matter how good the Internet connection is, the netbook just couldn't cope with watching member cams, playing music and uploading a feed.

secondly, the screen is so damn tiny that in the software, the ban button is hidden completely. in the webcaster, it's hidden unless you set your browser to fullscreen... and then, every time you mouse up to the top of the screen over a PM tab, it pops up with a "you are in fullscreen mode. click here or press f11 to exit fullscreen mode." if you click it accidentally your window resiZes and sometimes your cam turns off and reloads. and believe me you need access to that ban button. I remember back in the day when ppl would troll me and I couldn't ban them. I had to do it in my options menu and then it would take like 15 minutes to take effect.. all the while they are being asshats in my room. gahh!! so glas those days are over.

also the tiny screen makes it really hard to watch membr cams and keep track of PMs And stuff.

don't do it!!! my Mac is in the shop right now and I had to use the netbook yesterday and it was so fucking lame.

anyways.

as for the speed, there is no set minimum. yours should be okay.

as for the noise, I'm never very loud, and most people don't mind. sometimes I need to be just at talking volume, and I tell people that before a pvt. " just so you know, I have to keep my voice down a little, and I don't like to jackhammer fuck myself. that okay?"

good luck!!!!!!

Ah yes, that makes sense. I wasn't even thinking about how small the screen is, durr. My speed is 10/<1 and MFC lags like a mother, I have to close it if I want to multitask. So, I assume I'll have to upgrade anyway. Thanks for your help!

HI ! :hello2:
You might consider a desktop if you decide to go for a dedicated "camputer" and you're not gonna be doing outside shows. You can get a lot of selection for cheap [@tigerdirect or newegg] as well as have the processor and power to not bog down when you have multi windows open. There's also the multi monitor option.. or like I see more now, using a nice big TV instead of a monitor.
[just saw a 42" flat screen tv for less than a 27" monitor] most laptops will support a monitor as well if theyre big enough.

As for the noise levels.. The only thing that would 'give you away' is the tip dinger.. you can turn that off. Just have normal music in the background and that should muffle most sounds from playing adequately enough.. [unless you're a loud screamer   ]

Dont use a netbook, I did that at first because it was *the only* computer I could afford and it SUCKEEEDD, but I have a better laptop now and it suits all my needs, camming, and gaming. Its worth it to invest. Its a Toshiba Satelite w/ 16Gb RAM, 1GB VRAM, Intel i7 Processor. I got it on sale for $899 + tax at BestBuy. You need a decent 'puter to deal with an HD/hi quality feed before it even hits the router.
Get the fastest internet you can afford. Right now Im using 20down/10up and is okay, but Im probably going to get something better when I have more income. Use your ethernet cable whenever possible, wireless isnt so great for camming.
As for your webcam, a logitech 9000 or C910 is all you need :) You can get that for about 80-120$
I'm in Canada so prices are a lot higher here than in the states.

Get lots of lamps, even the best webcam will look shit with the wrong lighting. And use Daylight CFL bulbs, they have "cold" feel to them but they will prevent your skin looking yellow on cam.

Work hard, save up, and invest in the best you can afford. It really pays off :)

The Logitech C910 is a great cam, but if I remember right it can only stream in 720p. It can however record video in 1080p. If your willing to spend a little more, then the the c920 might be good option. It can stream and record in 1080p.

Camsites stream in 320x240 regular, 640x480 "HD". No point in going much higher than 720p for the stream size, and if your computer and internet can't handle the conversion down, it might make the video lag to go any higher than 640x480.

A small actual laptop with a good external monitor worked for me for the longest time, until it started to crash from all the virus that comes with online porn x.x I don't think most netbooks have the ram, video card, and cpu to handle an external monitor and camming and so on. I plan to invest in a good gaming laptop for camming, and a good gaming desktop for other stuff once I can afford it.

Also- I run my music on my ipod. If you have an mp3 player or a phone that can handle mp3's, I recommend using that. 1- it saves your computer processing power for the camming itself, 2- you can control everything you listen to, and 3- you don't have to worry about local adds popping up and giving you away. ^_^

Edited to add: you can plug speakers into the headphone jack for the camera to hear, or use a speaker base that can charge your ipod/zune/mp3 player.

Note: I only use ipod because my parents bought it for me. My adoptive family is obsessed with mac.

My neighbors seem like they need to be Fed. I guess it kills some people to return a smile and a simple hello. So F them! ha

Logitech 9000 is indeed the cam i will purchase. I don't need a cam-puter, I do own a mac but I feel starting fresh is easier than to backtrack, delete info, keep lives separate, etc. I know once its on the net its there but, am I making any sense?

Jessi, you are way more computer savvy than me. I know how to use them, not whats inside. :woops:
This laptop is the only one so far thats in my budget thats NOT a refurb. Nothing against them, but everyone I've found has bad reviews. Do you (or anyone) think this will do or just keep saving?

500GB SATA hard drive
Store 333,000 photos, 142,000 songs or 263 hours of HD video and more
I have a link (walmart) if this info isn't suffice.

Thanks so much ladies for all your help!! I'm going to keep creeping the forum, I've been reading around here for a while before I posted, I've learned so much from you all!

**by no means an expert**
Refurbished is probably fine so long as you dont mind superficial wear and there is some kind of garuntee or warranty in place. I am not 100% sure because Ive never bought a refurbished computer. The one you described sounds fine if all you're doing with it is camming. Upgrade the RAM though for good measure. Personally I like having a laptop because its easier for me to move around.

I'm not an expert either, but that's about as good as the laptop I started with (and again, it was my porn habit that crashed it, not camming). Hook an external monitor up to the back, and get an external mouse, and you'll be good to go!
