A couple noob questions...Marital Status? Vacations?

Hi, I'm an aspiring cam model but haven't started yet. I want to make sure I get everything ready before I start. I've ordered a good cam and some toys, I have a few costumes and lingerie sets. I'm setting up my spare room as my cam room. I have a couple questions that I can't post in the models only section as I haven't started yet.

1 - Marital Status. Do you think this affects your customer base. And do you feel that it's necessary to be honest about it?

2 - Vacation. I'll be going on a month long vacation starting this August 3rd or so. Do you think I need to wait until I get back to start webcamming? I know it can be kind of hard to get rolling with this whole cam modeling thing, and I want to do it right. I plan on dong a semi-regular schedule for consistency. I don't want to lose potential regulars or make less money that I could because I start up then go away a month after I begin. What's your opinion?

3 - Background. How important is setting? My spare room is really sparse. I have a bed and a loveseat I could use. But the room is very plain and the bed is very plain. I don't have a headboard or furniture or anything. And tips or suggestions here? I want my area to look nice and place to focus on me!

I feel like we should have sticky topics outside of the models only forum on these topics, because they do get asked quite a bit.

Short answers: Some of the top models in the world are married. Some keep it a secret. Some are open about it. Some just don't talk about it because it's part of their personal life.

Personally, I would wait until after the vacation. Other people will have other opinions.

I'm a minimalist at heart, so if I could have a solid backdrop like photographers use and nothing to get in my way or distract me, I would be happy.

I've done shows on a bed, in the middle of a room, on the kitchen table, on a bed again, in a garage, what have you. I am most comfortable in areas where I can get up and move around if I need to. In one day I might do a few private shows, which require less space but maneuverability for posing, a spank show (which involves a three-foot cane and for which I need open space on the ground) and bed gymnastics, which requires the cam to be entirely across the room for me while I pile-drive my mattress.

For me, decoration isn't an issue because I want the focus to be on me, not what my bedroom looks like. My primary concern is space and how easy it is to adjust and move the camera.

Necessary? No. A good idea. Probably so. It doesnt actually seem to affect earnings. It doesnt even seem to deter some guys from asking to meet you/fuck you/marry you/make babies with you lol. Plus you can be honest about ever saying oh we went here, we did this, etc. You can even sell couples vids and such. If hes game for that sort of thing any way. Its just better to be honest now rather than come out as a liar, or worse be busted by accidentally saying something, later.

WAIT till you come back from vaca. You dont wanna start building your empire then disappear for x amount of time and they wonder where you are.

Your sparce room is just fine. You dont really need much and may love having some comfy room to spread out and dance, do some floor shows, etc. And if you want some decorations here and there wishlist them if you want to.

welcome! It's awesome that you want to make a good start. One word of caution- some girls do everything right and still don't make anything. One thing that is necessary that we can't give you is just plain old luck. However, all the luck in the world won't help if you don't take advantage of it. So let's help you do just that!

If you decide to lie about marital status, you will have to watch everything you say to make sure you don't get caught in a lie. If you don't want to say either way, you don't have to. "I will not answer that question", "that's too personal", or even "that's irrelevant to my purposes here" are all valid answers.

That said, being open about it does open up some possibilities. Some guys will want to hear sex stories, and a few of them will even be willing to pay you for them. It also gives you a handy way to turn down sex offers without giving offense "I'm already married, not looking to split up." They will argue it, but at least they can't get offended by it. (well, they can, but that just makes them look like idiots!)

Well, at this point, you have a month and a half or so. If you're going for MFC, definitely wait until after the vacation. If you're going for Streamate, not as important- go ahead and jump on in! Dunno about other sites.

Plain is fine! There are two things I've seen members complain about when it comes to background, both of which fall under the same category. The first is a mess. If the room is a mess, it's a turn-off and a distraction. The second is kiddie. If the room looks like a 3-year-old lives there, you won't be getting the type of customers you want. You'll be getting customers who want you to talk about touching yourself at 4, want you to bring your kids (if you have any) on camera, or want you to pretend they are your father and say "no daddy, not in that hole". The kid factor tends to be a distraction for the better customers.

I know I can do everything right and still not have the amount of attention I want. But I lurk on MFC every day and I see a lot of girls who look like they have no idea what they're doing and it shows that they came into it unprepared.

I think I will just be honest about my fiance. I saw a girl on there talking about her hubby as she was cumming and one guy gave her shit but she also made about 1500 tokens in 15 minutes so it can't hurt her that bad! Plus, as mentioned, it might be fun to talk about stories and I am proud of my man so I don't wanna hide him. He can't be in my vids or pics though, because it could jeopardize his career.

Well, I saw one girl cam from a chair that could fold all the way back like a bed. So it's always possible. My only recommendation about bed/chair/floor/table is that whatever you use, cover it in something you can wash easily. There's *always* something that could spill on it!

I have noticed that talking about marital status is more 'fun' if you make it part of YOUR IMAGE.

Ie. - im a bdsm lifestyle slave..so i talk about my boyfriend in those terms. I call him my Master. Guys in my room fantasize about our life together.

Married swingers ... or simply "hey im a hot wife who loves to get naughty on webcam and expose myself" can be a turn on. Huge difference IMO in saying that than "Engaged, not looking..dont ask" one is exciting, the other one is a bit of a turn off.

Yep! If you only show his wiener ( :lol: ) you could get away with it. My mans job would be jeopardized by vids as well so thats what we do

I had thought about just an oral/POV video. He has a tat on his calf but I think it would be pretty easy to hide.
