I think there might be some merit to the first point (Society Promised Us A Hot Girl). You watch any film or TV series from the last 30 years that features a geek or an everyman as the protagonist and 90% of the time, they wind up bumping uglies with some insanely beautiful woman who, in the real world, likely wouldn't let them so much as sniff their panties. Chicks have been marginalised in entertainment for a long-ass time; more often than not they're just there to satiate the (wholly fantastical) sexual desires of the male lead (and vicariously, the male audience).
The problem is, people are stupid. I completely buy that certain people, who are less-than-intelligent, would come to resent womanfolk as a whole when their own experiences with women (especially beautiful women) don't mirror those that they've been conditioned to expect by watching the movies.
You see it on MFC all the time; some dry-dicked willy-face diving into a room and going out of his way to offend a pretty model he's likely never met before. Without wishing to go all Dr. Phil on your asses, maybe it's cos' those pretty models represent what they've come to resent; the hot girl they were lead to believe they could bang but who it transpires, isn't interested.
That, and some people are just meanie-poos.

Does anyone else suspect America is run by the same dweebs typing "open bobs" into chats windows on the daily?
That was a fun read. Cracked is good stuff.
I feel like the Old Testament is to blame for a lot of it, and feel that the world would be a softer, gentler place if Women had been the ones with the pens back in the day.

  • 5. I was never taught that I was owed a woman. I was taught that the only way to get the beautiful girl to like you was to work hard and excel over everyone else, because losers go home alone.
  • 4. I was trained from birth to see women as mothers, sisters, protectors, and teachers. As I got older the roles they filled in my life expanded, but those were the roles they filled in my childhood.
  • 3. I do not think woman are conspiring with my penis to ruin my life, because my penis does not need any help to do that.
  • 2. If you think women stole your man card you never had one to start. I never tied being a man to my destructive tendencies. In my mind being a man has always been tied to the strong urge to protect and teach other people. Acting on that biological imperative to protect, instead of tearing stuff up to understand how it works, is what makes me a man instead of a child.
  • 1. I have no problem not thinking about sex, and think the author has a bit of a problem. He should find a hobby or something to help distract him.

For the men who don't want to read the article, I'm still interested in your opinion.

The basic precepts are:

1- movies, songs, stories, and pretty much everything trains you that the hero gets the good looking girl no matter what she feels about it, and since you are the hero of your own story, you obviously should get the girl.

2- Society tells us that the women are supposed to be pretty, and any woman who doesn't conform to society's current idea of pretty is breaking the contract and needs to put more work into looking good.

3- Men can't control their sex drives by thinking about how it's not appropriate right now. And since women must look pretty or they're breaking contract, men must always be turned on by the women.

4- Every urge that having a penis creates within a man is considered wrong (destructive urges and such), but society tells us that once upon a time, such urges were considered good and were celebrated. Men blame women on the changes within society, because everything a man does is to try to get laid.

5- Men feel powerless because no matter what they do to try to get women out of their lives, they can't stop thinking about them.

---

There's actually a bit that I agree with in that last part: that most people feel powerless about some aspect of their lives.

All of the most bitter disputes work like this, by the way: Both sides think they're the powerless party. It's why tipping servers is such a bitter topic among some people -- the server feels like the customer has all of the power (because their entire income comes from tips), and the customer feels like the server has all the power (because they can deny them food and drink and ruin their one night out). It's why the richest people in the world can talk like they're besieged victims, and mean it. It's why the male leaders of the most powerful and richest church in the world can talk like they're being made martyrs due to women asking for birth control. And mean it.

I thought there was a lot of truth to the piece, which I'm sure was tongue in cheek to a large degree. Certainly not all men are misogynists, but way too many are, and a good example was the one about Christina Aguilara... if a pretty woman puts on a tiny bit of weight or gets a zit or wears her hair in a goofy way... the hounds of hate will jump on her (not literally) like she's a rabid dog.

Read it; seemed to be from the perspective of a teen/early twenties male, or one that just never grew up. I don't really agree with anything it says. Seems to be a piece on the male perception of women as viewed through the prism of the internet.

My only thought after reading it was ...Naive

Yep... all true. Now I demand my attractive female immediately! >_>

Okay... so maybe not. Being familiar with Cracked and especially enjoying (as a person working in IT) 6 Reasons The Guy Who's Fixing Your Computer Hates You I'd say that this is a combination of male fantasy and psychology with some observations used to back it up despite the spurious correlation of the statements. The idea that any of these male fantasies, psychologies, and the "contributing influences" the writer has observed actually leads to the comments being thrown around by Rush Limbaugh or Reddit users is proposed in an attempt at humor. Anyone taking the article in complete seriousness is either delusional (i.e. if some of the Reddit people agreed with it) or is being unnecessarily condescending possibly from a defensive or disdainful perspective. So let me address each one from my perspective.

5. It's a nice idea. Chalk it up to male fantasies.
4. We've been blaming advertisements for this shit forever. Truth of the matter is anyone and anything can be objectified when used for a similar purpose. I feel like I'm going to start singing Madonna and we DON'T want that... trust me.
3. Some guys have sex on the brain a lot. It does make it harder to focus. Mind over matter and there's no conspiracy though.
2. Oh hey... some guys are competitive when it comes to being manly. What's this have to do with hating women again? I didn't make the connection to be honest.
1. Cycle of Powerlessness... it will never sell. Guys want the one with the 1100cc engine. Oh snap... I think I stopped thinking about women/sex. Where were we? Oh... yeah totally powerless. Guys have the power up until the moment he calls for the 2nd date. Then it transfers to the woman... where it belongs. True story. >_>

[serious tag is serious]
The above list has little hints of seriousness in it. It's mixed with a whole lot of goofball (because that's how I roll... even when trying to be serious) to try to mimic the article in my own way. I confess I am not a very gifted writer so to compare the above to the article may be libelous but hopefully you get the idea. So now that that's out of the way...
[/serious tag]

I just typed all of that and still the attractive female I've earned hasn't been provided. Come on people! So what if all I've really accomplished is surviving for 26 years.

People is the right word for sure. For every entitlement filled, dorky dude who has nothing to offer a potential mate but expects the world of her, there are a handful of princesses. Princesses in my book, are the girls that Disney has warped into believing if they wait long enough doing nothing for themselves a prince charming will come along with their happily ever after. These are the girls that plot their wedding from age 10, judge every man they meet on a financial scale and dream of the day they will lay back and do nothing while their prince brings home the paychecks. There is something seriously wrong when women save more money for dream weddings than for education or actual investments.

For the record, if ever I have a daughter, she will be reading fairy tales in their original form. Hey kid, the little mermaid died because she gave up her identity for a dude. Don't be like her. Oh, and sleeping beauty was raped while sleeping because sometimes people do bad things to others they find vulnerable. She didn't bag a prince, but she did get some kids to raise alone. Yay!
Ahh. Rant. Feel better.

I don't hate women. I hate the fact that I can't get a woman.
