Hey!

For those of you who don't know me I go by Deez, I have been a male conversationalist-style cam model on Chaturbate for about a year and a half now.

My inquiry here is specifically to brainstorm ways for a model such as myself to gain more exposure and attract more interested parties to my room. Currently, my publicity is limited to CB followers, Twitter, whoever knows me from this forum and whoever stumbles into my room. Considering that my style of camming is much more entertainment based and less explicitly sexual (though *definitely* "adult"), I am starting to feel that banking on people stumbling upon my room is not exactly an optimal business strategy (especially on CB). I feel like being more proactive and diverse with my advertising might help quite a bit.

My brainstorming so far (considering financial limitations) has produced the ideas of establishing a presence on Tumblr, checking to see if Reddit has anything to offer as far as exposure goes, maybe starting up a YouTube channel?

I would love to hear what you think. Any ideas, questions or feedback are more than welcome and thank you all in advance for your assistance!

Vine was suuuuuper helpful before the no nudity rule. I had 80k+ followers in a matter of months. You might want to try that and just keep your pants on. I don't know if they'll allow links to adult sites now, I doubt it.
Youtube is a good idea but sometimes they'll take down videos that advertise adult related sites, so I'm not sure how much YT traffic you could direct to CB. But it's good if you have a talent (like singing) or you're funny. It'll help your existing members to see more of your personality and feel better connected to you and more likely to tip you.
Tumblr is okay. Some models have had a lot of success promoting on tumblr (like our lovely KayleePond) I use it more of a blog to have the members get to know me on a deeper level and some have said they've tipped me because they felt like they knew me better after reading my stuff.
Instagram is good, too, but again no nudity is allowed. I have got away with posting my MFC link on my pics though!!
There's also Facebook fan pages but I think it's easier to gain a following on FB if you do mainstream acting or modeling rather than just cam work.
Besides Vine, Twitter has been my most successful tool for getting new members in my room. I think most of the other sites are more like a bonus to members who you already know. :twocents-02cents:

You also might want to try other forums. Like maybe there's a gay forum you can advertise on? Something for male sex workers? Maybe a forum for a particular fetish you are known for?

Everything Megan said - I would also like to ad you can always find ads pretty cheap (check out Juicy Ads) I have done it once and it worked well. You can also go to conventions; Chaturbate is always @ the conventions and going DEFF helped a shit ton. I made business cards and handed them out since I am on the East Coast the NJ one isnt to far away and there are 2 in Jersey -one in Nov in Edison and one in April @ Atlantic City (There are also other Exxotica's as well) Other than that consistency, hard work and promoting on twitter

Have you done any Clips4Sale or equivalent yet?
Based on your post-topic you're looking to expand the exposure to your current branding but there's also plenty of opportunity for you to run multiple brands simultaneously.
I'm not familiar with your "performance limitations" (for lack of a better term, what you're willing to engage in) but quite literally "Fully Clothed Beard Drooling and Spit Bubble Blowing" and "Handsome fella in spectacles sucking his toes" is probably something a few dozen someones a month are willing to pay at least $1.99 minute for, it just depends on how broad you want to cast your net into the potential market and whether or not you'd want those someone's to associate with your CB live performance concept. (it's entirely possible to keep multiple brands reasonably separated online, I started out in smoking fetish waaay back in the day and transitioned to a completely different branding/performance style with live camming save for the odd long-term-consistantly-profitable smoking fetish fan who managed to track me down)

I honestly don't know of any other forums. I didn't even know about this one until I was introduced to it by a fellow model pretty recently. I'm still learning about the community and such, are there any reputable forums off the top of your head that you know of?

As for fetishism and the like, I am not exactly the most sexual model in the world. I'm really a performer/entertainer at my core that simply doesn't have any qualms with being naked or seductive. I rarely do any kind of explicitly sexual stuff (and even then, only in private) other than tease and some dancing and such, the majority of my room is just getting to know people (and vice versa), making a place for people to feel comfortable to hang up their coat, stay a while and have fun.

@msbiancabaker - I have thought of conventions in the past and Jersey isn't too tough of a haul, I'll definitely look into that. The Edison one might time out really well with this.

The key on youtube is what you put on the video and the description - if the video description has links to most camming sites, that causes the anti-spam tools to automatically flag the video and take it down. But if you link instead to your twitter/instagram account, you're good to go, even if on those you have links to your adult content.

A corner case that might land you in trouble is putting your website's URL on an image on the channel header if it's an adult site - it won't trigger the automatic anti-spam/anti-adult content filters, but anyone can flag the channel for that (personally I don't remember if there's anything in the terms of service about that, but the reviewers tend to be a bit over-zealous in my experience).

The content of the videos is usually not an issue unless it's clearly something that is against the terms of service. Keep in mind that the videos are only reviewed by a human if they are flagged enough times by users, so it's possible that trolls might get the video to go through review, but if your content is within the limits of the ToS, the worst they can do is put it behind the age gate (which means only logged-in users can see it).

You can probably still use things like Vine and YouTube, even if you can't show nudity or link to adult sites. Most people can google just fine, just make sure you have a name that brings your cam profile(s) to the first page during a search. Think of a name like a brand.

Likewise Twitter is a good platform as well to use in combination because there you can post all the links and pictures you'd like and that will certainly show up right near the top during a search.

Not sure where you are but if Jersey isnt to bad there are expos and conventions in Chicago too if that's not to far.

Vine and youtube and tumblr would be a good way to show off any non sexual talents you may want to show. You say youre more of an entertainer so it really may work well. Links could be to your twitter instead of camroom getting you around any blocks and spam filters they have. A link in your twitter header to your room then directs them straight to you.

C4S is great if youre a performer as many of the categories arent super sexual. As in it's not all just jack off and butt plugs. Keep in mind while they may not be sexual to you they are to be for the people who buy them so they should still be sexy. Yes it may be difficult to think of rubbing a balloon on yourself as sexual to someone but it is their fetish so try to make it so. Bring out your performer side in them and it could go really well. Plus after 14 days you can post outside links to your camroom there.
Any however that arent specifically vagina based you could upload into. Not just ones men are specifically labeled for like Gay. For a while the most popular spit video was a guy. So just try them all out and see what works. You may not see another guy has posted in the category but so what, maybe its an untapped market you could take advantage of. Someone may have a male foot fetish out there and boom there you are.
I do not suggest the part of C4S that does pictures as even the most popular girls have tried it and the sales just arent there at all. Clips is where it's at.

In addition you can use that content and upload it to CB. Never hurts to have content there. Dont link anywhere on CB to C4S though as CB doesnt like outside advertising at all.
Maybe some other girls can chime in about whether or not guys are allowed on manyvids or extralunchmoney. Im not there so i dont know about that. But if so definitely use those as well. I mean one video uploaded to 4 places is just smart. More exposure and potential income for just a few hours of work already done. Residual income ftw.

As much as I hate Tumblr, I would say it's a good route to go as well. It's a great free way to blog to your followers, and even post gifs and other things. I would highly advise against reddit, as a lot of trolls from 4Chan have made that kind of their home base now.

Youtube might be a good route, you just may have to make sure you put that your info is 18+ and mark the videos as such.

Here's an update - So far, I have contacted CB about attending Exxxotica in NJ; haven't heard back but I am optimistic. If I can make that work financially I am definitely going to be in attendance and I am extremely excited about it; at the very least it will be a great experience. I have been looking into C4S and I think it would be a great thing to bring in extra income, I just need to figure out what I would be comfortable doing and take it from there. It is very helpful to know that videos are substantially more beneficial than photos.

I come from a modeling (fine art, artistic nude and amateur semi/full nude), stripping and entertainment background and my room basically consists of playing games, chatting, goofing around and tease. I have been leaning towards photos because that's familiar territory for me but I'm gathering that C4S wouldn't be an ideal place for that. I'm guessing a good plan for now would be to look into videos on C4S, photos hosted both independently and on CB with promo on Twitter/Tumblr and just sorta see where it goes from there?

As far as i know CB covers the costs of the conventions for the girls but thats if they have a certain amount of followers. They have turned down girls for not having enough of them before. But you may be able to go and just ask for them to cover the cost of the VIP tickets to get into the actual convention. Or they may be happy to front the cost since having a guy go would be different for them. Worth a shot but dont be disappointed if they turn you down as you wouldnt be the first for them to say no to.
I agree with Lita about staying away from reddit and 4chan for promotion. Most girls who have tried it say their time is better spent elsewhere.
Lastly about videos or photos of any sort if you're going to make them do be sure to watermark them. Just your name or twitter handle placed in the corner or something. They do get stolen and uploaded and the best you can hope for is to get some advertising back to you from the watermark and a google search. When posting a gif or pic on twitter or tumblr watermark those too. They get retweeted and reblogged and people lose track of the OP and it's a way to again keep your content yours and maybe get some traffic.
Im not sure what your equipment set up is so if you need help with how to watermark or edit videos from your phone or laptop feel free to ask here.

Very few cam models don't struggle at least once (male or female). I think it's highly rude for anyone to use the term "real job". He cams part-time. Part-time is still a real job. I and many other cammers have had to have other work till our camming jobs worked for us. Heck, I just put in my two weeks at my other job Saturday.

Most people I work with there have another job to make ends meet, and would be very upset to be told it wasn't a real job with how hard they work. Before you figure out how to better advertise yourself, I would ask yourself *who* you're trying to attract specifically.

If you want to attract gay men - advertising in a gay forum is great. But it sounds like that may not be quiet the kind of crowd you want, or at the very least not gay men with sexual expectations of you.

I skim read this thread so some of this may be repetitive - sorry!

A little more depth on C4s: C4s won't necessarily help you build your chaturbate room. However, it can be an excellent source of additional income. Be aware you will need to shoot 10 videos to have uploaded before your store can go live.

Tumblr has a very specific crowd.. that loves gifs, artsy nudes, etc. It's image based rather than text based - people are much less likely to read a wall of text on tumblr than they are on say, blogspot

Youtube ... would probably be my first stop. Many Youtube bloggers are *essentially* entertainers - so it sounds like it is something that would come naturally to you. I would dig into that option especially and seek out resources that are targeted to youtube bloggers to help you do that.

Vine would be something else I'd definitely look into. I don't think the "no adult content' rule will be much of a problem for you - you can do teases and show off your personality/entertainment.

Vine is something you can post to everytime you get ready to log in too and tell people where to find you realtime.

Another option for short videos like that and photo sharing is Instagram.

There's a book called Likeable media i'm going to recommend you check out too. It's about building your presence on social media and it's pretty helpful

Quick update for you all, since you've all been such a great help to me!

I am attending Exxxotica in NJ (November 7-9) as a CB representative and hopefully AVN Expo in Vegas in January as well!

I'm also currently setting up a C4S store (planning a LOT of content) and signing up for Streammate. Since planning for Exxxotica and getting content out for C4S are taking a priority right now, the YouTube/Tumblr/Vine PR routes are sorta on the back-burners for little bit... but I'm gonna see what I can make happen with those as well, especially with the expo coming up.

Like I said in my introductory post, I've been on CB for about a year and a half now and have been doing fine (especially considering I'm probably one of the only male models that doesn't do public cumshows...). I'm just looking to branch out and expand.

@roomhelper - I haven't finished my coffee yet, so not only am I not gonna waste my time explaining myself but I'm also not gonna bother being fucking polite to you. God knows I'm not getting paid for that. Go sit on a pineapple and spin around for a while until you start living up to your name.

I and many other cammers have had to have other work till our camming jobs worked for us. Heck, I just put in my two weeks at my other job Saturday.
