So I read this article the other day, where it says that it might be possible to have your identity leaked if you visited any porn sites within the last year.

It's a given that majority of the people here have visited online porn at least a few times, and most here are anonymous about it. So my question is, are you worried?

If all the porn browsing history in the world was leaked, I imagine it would pretty much lose all stigma.

I'm not nearly important enough for anyone to bother trying to pull out and publish just my porn history, or for anyone to care.

Uhm two sides to this.

First off, no. I'm not worried. I use a vpn, I have ublock origin, adblock, and disconnect extensions to not allow most tracking stuff anyway. I also have Vanilla installed with only the sites i allow via whitelist to have cookies installed, all others are deleted every 5 minutes. There are other things installed too, like opting out of google ad tracking and google analytic blockers. Then on top of that I have never given a real name, or even the same name to ANY site that does not have an absolute need to have it. Even email addresses are fake unless I want to hear back from them. Most get a disposable 'mailinator' made up email address. And even if i do give out that info chances are half the other stuff they ask for is fake. All my credit cards and student loans have fake phone numbers. If I have to call one of them with a question I always have to open up my keepass software to see what info I told them just to be able to answer their security questions.. Mothers maiden name, I have never given out the real one in my life.

So no, i'm not worried. Not one of them could leak my identity because they don't know it in the first place.

On the other side of things I couldn't care less if people know I watch porn. Hell, i'll yell that to strangers walking down the street for all I care about that.

Not worried about being exposed, there is no one that will be hurt by my little addiction. I don't think it would create any issues or concerns with those who know me.
What I have spent on 'porn' may be a little embarrassing, but no different from most others free time spending habits.

Lol really? are you sure about this?, I don't need to be worried because I don't think anyone would care that I watch porn it's not a secret but I think that's odd, maybe you are mistaking it for the Ashley Maddison thing.

I just can't imagine this being more than something that would soon blow over after released (that is, if anyone does happen to care at all).

If anything all it would do is make a lot of people say to themselves "Wow guess there are waaaay more into that fetish, than just me!"

Exactly my thoughts, it won't be a big deal like who cares? lol I would be surprised if everyone over 18 didn't watch porn, like what's their problem?.

Isn't there a risk of revealing cam models address from this? Considering that revealing a unique name in many countries reveals the address, as names are listed in electoral roles along with address which are public information.

If any of this is true, the possibilities are endless.

I would not like my cam log hacked/ released, there are a few personal details of others in it, some embarrassing things, those things told in confidence...that would bother me quite a bit if those things were exposed.
I would prefer anything I have told a model in confidence to be respected, so the same goes the other way. Another interfering in that would definitely annoy me.

@Puffin Though that may be a possibility, I doubt anyone would be able to narrow down which women viewing porn sites are models verses women who are simply on adult sites. We all watch porn. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I doubt it would be so extremely obvious as to risk much.

Am I worried? Nope - everyone watches porn.

Plus, that attack is highly theoretical and unlikely - to properly identify someone, they would have to hack not only the porn site(s), but also multiple other non-adult sites to be able to cross-reference the fingerprints and get a fingerprint to name mapping.

The article lays out a whole lot of "if/then" criteria for this to be viable, and none of it seems to be particularly easy to sift through in order to connect every porn user to their habits. It seems to me like this is a lot less a matter of, "here's a list of everyone's names," and a lot more a situation where a single person could be identified and then tracked. That in itself has some scary implications that can go well beyond porn viewing habits, but I'm not seeing this as some Ashley Madison hack or Wikileaks situation, where it's a massive dump of info that's easy to decipher.

And not for nothing, but "browser footprints" aren't hard and fast. The unique configurations of browsers don't stay consistent over time, even short periods of time. And how many people stick to a single device, profile, or even physical location in their everyday surfing? The internet is mobile now. That has to play a part in the reliability of this sort of information.

I don't know. It seems to me that this might be more of a mental exercise in what could happen if a lot of variables come together correctly, and not so much a clear and present danger.

Exactly it's a load of bull, the person who came up with this theory seems bored, he should find something better to do with his time like jack off lmao.
