This could be a good thing but a bad thing.
The only reason I see this as a bad thing is a lot of members will go straight to an XXX room which can harm a camgirl who stays away from that in public.
Anyone else think so?

Woot for at least trying to make it okay for us to do public shows and not worry about arbitrarily being picked for punishment for breaking the rules

Nah. I think it has more pro's than cons, seeing as it'll protect kids. It might cause more models to become XXX models than there were before, but eh, that's their choice either way.
The members who only go to XXX rooms are the ones who would have done so anyways.

Im sure thats what it will be though. The only other way to do an age verification would be to enter a cc or debit card and why would they make a guest do that? Its basically just to cover their own asses. Oh wells.
Also...Im confused a little. It says: to accurately describe their webcam performance at that time
Does this mean we have to change the setting all the time? Thats kind of annoying lol.

I'd probably just end up leaving it in "XXX" (even if I was fully clothed) so I wouldn't have to keep changing it! Guys would probably mainly look at the XXX category the most...even if they don't want a zoomed-in open legged cam & are happy to talk to a girl who is fully clothed, they probably wouldn't want to choose the category in which nudity doesn't seem to be an option. The more I think about that 18 and over thing... the more I think Leo may be inadvertently encouraging under aged visitors which kinda pisses me off. Which models would want under aged kids in their room anyways? :snooty:
Will have to wait - is it going to be rolled out into a fuller feature in the future (must register, limited to premiums?) or just a simple "if you say you're old enough, that's great for us" (which won't alter anything at all).

This can't have anything to do with discouraging under age viewers, there'd be no practical point. Sexy websites don't go out of their way to discourage an underage audience, they just need to protect themselves from liability. You do that with an "enter/leave" page wherein the user electronically certifies their age, that's all you need to do. The user IS still fourteen and electronically signing the document but it indemnify the site. There'd be no practical legal reason to have a separate clothed/nude/xxx portal system and no obvious benefit financially from a system of model organization based on these three criteria (unless you were actually promoting fully clothed camming but that seems really unlikely)
Reasons you WOULD implement a clothed/nude/xxx category system:

If I'm doing a countdown and am nude but not playing I have a few thousand people in my room. If I hit my countdown target and flip the XXX switch it kicks all guests and basics out. They angrily verify their age with a credit card and become a premium. Other sites employ this as well, you get a great big "YOUR CREDIT CARD WILL NOT BE CHARGED UNLESS YOU CHOOSE TO BUY TOKENS, AGE VERIFICATION IS 100% FREE" and you sign up to view the show. It's a fucking genius marketing ploy. There will be those who verify their age and never buy tokens but MFC is banking on token trigger fingers once they get the user so close to having token buying power. I think it's an organizational response to all the hardcore public shows. Seeing 5000 people in a room for a public show and noting that only a dozen or so are tipping would alarm me as a business person, my solution to that phenomenon would be to create a system that encourages the silent lurkers who honestly don't even NEED to buy tokens on this site anymore and just full penetration channel surf to register their credit cards with my site. They don't HAVE to buy tokens, but they're vastly more likely to if they've registered their CC info.
What would they do if I registered myself as XXX but then didn't spread in public? So now as opposed to worrying that I'll get fined or suspended for fisting in public I'll get fined or suspended for NOT fisting in public? I would absolutely check the XXX box because that's where the majority of traffic would be headed, but you can't MAKE me penetrate in public, you can't MAKE me be nude, so what the hell is your recourse if I'm falsely advertizing myself? If I get caught wearing clothes do you banish me to the non-nude section? I make MFC an assload of money, it would make no sense for them to limit my exposure to the clientele by bumping me to the "bitch iz no fun and sez she won't DP in public for less than $500" page.
I feel like we're all bewildered bushmen standing around a glass coke bottle that fell from the sky wondering, "WHAT DOES IT MEAN??? What are the Gods trying to TELL US?" lol

1- That page was last updated in March 2010. In fact, I stumbled upon said page in December. The fact that nothing's come of it in the 13 months since then makes me wonder if it's much ado about nothing.
But let's say it's going to happen and carry on...
2- I think it has to be about forcing people to buy tokens. The fact that there's so many models and so little rule enforcement makes me think that they have to have some alternative option to keep the money flowing in. Unlike some of you, I think that age verification will involve spending $20 to buy tokens.
To me, that makes a ton of sense. It will force the freeloading basics and guests to either pay up or shut up.
3- As for preventing underage viewers, they will still be able to find porn if they know where to look. If that's the reason MFC gives for activating this, it's a red herring.
4- Just a thought here but would this mean that group shows no longer exist? Because I think that would be a bad idea. Forcing models to go with massive token countdowns for shows just doesn't work all the time.

I'm pretty fucking sure it's most likely an upcoming change, they just felt like publishing the page because they're too fucking stupid to save it on their end.

They should do a patch like in warcraft, then they could announce it like 4 months before it goes live and we all feel an impending sense of doom about the future changes or a kind of zeal towards them
