So I just turned 18 and I want to start camming, but I am really afraid of my parents or really anyone else finding out. I contacted chaturbate asking if the information that I provide them with was kept secure,a nd they said it was shared to no other party. So is there any sort of government record or anything relating to my affiliation to the site? I plan on never showing my face, which will stop anyone from identifying me, but I am just scared of a piece of mail arriving at my house or something like that. I planned on only receiving payment through the online wallets that they support. Thanks!

Hiding your face doesn't eliminate someone recognizing your voice, body, bedroom, etc.

If your parents finding out would be really upsetting, I'd avoid doing it. At the very least, really, really think it over before you do. The bell cannot be unrung, as they say. Pretty much everything on camsites gets automatically recorded and uploaded, so you can't take it back once it's out there.

You have to show your face on any camsite you work on. You can't hide it the entire time or they have no way of verifying that you're the one on the government ID you sent them. You will be banned if you never show your face. And you will get a 1099 mailed to you during tax season which you will need to file taxes on. Camming is a job after all and you need to comply with federal tax law.
Also if you cam someone will find out. No way around that. Doesn't matter if it happens now or years from now. It will happen. I've had two irl friends find my cam stuff. 1 found me during my very first broadcast. So to think you can cam without someone finding out is very naive. If you think people discovering your cam stuff will ruin your life then DO NOT CAM

I agree with Esther_Fae. First off, showing your face is basically a requirement on cam. Even if it wasn't I wouldn't imagine being very successful without showing your face. Second, if your parents still get your taxes done for you, there's no getting out of that explanation. There's always a change of someone recording your live stream and leaking it too. If you really care that much about people you know finding out, it's definitely not the best choice for you :/

took years for my parents to find out. all it took was a facebook video of me going viral.

lol everyone hates me XD

i don't have a phone, use social media (outside my cam stuff), or interact w my family in any way. when my mom finds out, she'll probably send a messenger pigeon to express her disappointment.

As an outsider looking in, I would say with the way anything has the ability to be captured, found, shared in this day and age. This would be an industry if you are worried about the potential strains/damage/fallout (for lack of phrasing) of your parents/siblings/friends/family and other people that "Know you" finding out. It may not be the thing to do as a career or a part time means for earning income.

I have as an outsider always been curious about how models that didn't show their face etc. could truly earn income when I assumed there had to be additional verification things because of the nature of the business for continued payment or any payment from the hosting site.

Kind of tagging along to what @AudriTwo mentioned about it only took one thing for her to go viral. I was in college 2002-2007, and one of my female friends dabbled in what I would equate to cam work in like 2002-2003 (I had like zero concept of what I know as camming today). But, during that school year video of her leaked through the dorms/messengers/filesharing sites like Kazaa and it really blew up. She had a couple of distinct tattoos and once it was clear everyone that knew her and even those that didn't went about sharing the footage. At a time when she wasn't ready for it come up/out. I share the story simply because even if you have the slightest concerns/doubts you may want to pause and evaluate.

Yes, Chaturbate itself keeps your ID secure and away from others' eyes. But like the others have said... There is no way to prevent people from discovering that you are a camgirl. Even if you manage to hide your face (which will honestly interfere with your income) - like Gen said, you can still be recognized through other methods. We have seen it many times. It's unfortunate, but it is very, very true.

Since you say that you just turned 18... I am curious if you still live with your parents. If they find out, are they the sort to kick you out? Will they make you quit your job? Do you have a safety net in case the very worse happens? Do you have someplace to go? Are they supporting any of your bills (i.e., schooling, etc.). I have known people who have lost their family completely, which is hard enough when you are an independent adult with your own home and income. But if you are still living with your parents, if they are paying for your bills or schooling, it is definitely worth reconsidering the risk. Especially with things like taxes. Once you make a certain amount of money, they can no longer claim you on their taxes. Do you have a story prepared to tell them? Can you explain where you are getting your money? If you are still a dependent of your parentals, it becomes a much trickier situation, imo.

Are you prepared for the fallout? Because honestly, no matter how careful you are, you can still be discovered. And we live in an internet age where anonymity is becoming harder and harder to maintain. Especially with the advances in technology. Once you put yourself on the internet, your shows will be recorded, your videos will be pirated, and it's there forever. There is no way to take it down again.

We definitely try to encourage people to prepare for the worst and hope for the best, just like Kleo said! Some people have worked in the adult industry for a decade and never been discovered, while others are outed on their very first show. There's no rhyme or reason for it. It's better to just assume that it will happen and have a plan in place. That way, you aren't blind-sided and your world doesn't fall apart if it is discovered.
