I'm kind of curious as to other people's following habits.

On the majority of my networking websites, I don't enjoy following large amounts of people. I like to see updates and info from people I know and like (or, alternatively, interested in or curious about).

I know some ladies are interested in what attracts people to a blog or feed, so I thought it would be nifty if people wanted to share why they follow blogs, and why they subsequently unfollow.

My Tumblr blog that I've had for almost a year now stagnated in interest for some time, until I made some recent changes that have garnered a lot more followers on a daily basis. This has made me curious as to what people are really interested in when they look for blogs.

My own top reasons for unfollowing (and, on the other hand, following and sticking with) blogs are below.

Reasons why I unfollow blogs (descending in importance)!

1. My top, #1 reason for unfollowing people is flooding. I hate having my feeds flooded. I end up unfollowing a lot of really great blogs because they don't know how to use the damn queue feature. Many blogs don't update for most of the day, and then during a period of an hour reblog as many photos as they can. Yes, I like the occasional catgirl picture and poems about baby elephants or whatever, but I really don't care to scroll through 20,000 pixels of stolen bondage photography just so I can start seeing updates from other blogs. I guess I am kind of picky, but flooding doesn't always have to happen at once. If a blog creates 100 new posts in a day, regardless of whether or not they are evenly spaced out, I will probably not be too interested in following it.

2. A lot of negativity. I really enjoy the occasional teary-eyed photo or journal entry, but I dislike logging in to my dashboard to see update after update on how horrible a young woman's life is. Being surrounded by negativity makes me feel badly, and even if the blog's purpose is supposed to be camming, weight loss, the kink, baby elephants or whatever, if the author starts to publish depressing stuff, I'm out. I don't like to see upsetting things.

3. Lack of originally created content. The problem with Tumblr is that it's so amazing, and people create amazing stuff, and you want to share that amazing stuff with your followers. But I don't want to see other people's amazing stuff, I want to see YOUR stuff. I go to the blogs of many camgirls and the first 4 pages are just reblogs of things they like, and I feel badly for not following them, but they don't have any content about what interests me (their lives and camming). I feel the majority of blogs on Tumblr are just reblog-blogs.

On the other hand, there is one thing that I enjoy most of all, and think is fascinating, and will pretty much convince me to follow and stay with a blog no matter what:

Actual, written text updates on that person's life (or, if the blog is not personal, on the subject at hand).

I certainly do not speak for everyone, but pictures are a dime a dozen for me. Most of the time I find myself ignoring pictures like they're advertisements to get to actual content. Unless a picture is taken by the author of the blog, I feel like it's mostly empty fluff. I know people are all like, "yeah but that's not fair, Evvie. The things I reblog represent me. All those Adventure Time GIFs are a statement about who I am." It's not like these things are absolute rules for me; I follow some awesome camladies who reblog the shit out of stuff and I think it's hilarious - but they also intermix that reblogged stuff with personal updates about themselves.

So I suppose what attracts me to a blog is that the person actually blogs about themselves or the topic at hand. That's usually all it takes for me to be interested. (Although, just in terms of camgirls, I do not personally count advertisements, wishlist updates, "I'm on cam now!" and content sales as personal blogging. That's just business).

My top, #1 reason for unfollowing people is flooding. I hate having my feeds flooded.
1-2 times a day is plenty ....

With respect to twitter:

  • Flooding. I follow like forty people at the moment. I don't really know how people keep up with more. I've had to unfollow people as it is for 20-30 or more tweets a day.
  • The only things they say are related to online/offline. If that's all you're tweeting, I'm not really interested.

My personal tumblr, I am MOST DEFINITELY guilty of flooding. I don't blame you guys one bit for not following me
I unfollow blogs on tumblr for being overly vegan (it's hilarious but it gets annoying), posting way too fucking much One Direction shit.. Uh.
Yeah. That's about it.

On my porn tumblr I barely post much at all

I'm not trying to be clever here, but you don't follow people on Twitter if they talk about things in real life or on the Internet? I feel that covers pretty much everything.

LOL i guess I flood... ? I don't do it so much with tumblr, but certainly with twitter. I post.. a lot on there. I don't know.. no one complains LOL.

I unfollow:

negativity

flooding that's nothing but pictures etc

guys that are rude to me.
I dunno, I follow you, I don't think you flood! When you post things in a row it's all your own stuff, not like twenty reblogs of... baby elephants...

I don't follow people when all they tweet about is that they are about to start or stop camming. There are a number of models I have seen where the entire twitter feed is one long list of "I'll be online in 10 minutes!", "Thanks for the great day, see you tomorrow!". I can no longer edit the original post, but that should clarify it hopefully.

Ooooh. I gotcha.

I'm sometimes guilty of flooding. I think I do a pretty good job of realizing when I've re-blogged enough and start sending stuff to the queue though. I also think I do a pretty good job of throwing in something original after I realize that I've somehow re-blogged 20 things from other people.

I unfollow:

Blogs that are almost entirely about suicide/death.
Blogs that are supportive of people maintaining eating disorders (of the gaining variety and the anorexia/bulimia variety).
Blogs that put out nothing but links.
Blogs that flood tumblr.

I follow:

Originality.
Creativity.
Sexy camgirls (all camgirls I can find, since they're all sexy)
Recipe blogs.
Fashion blogs.
Fancy food blogs.
Blogs about specific fetishes I have.
Blogs that post nothing but funny stories and pictures.

And so on.

I unfollow negativity and retweeting bad thoughts and ideas (like the people who retweet suicide stuff, depression and eating disorder stuff can be very triggering for some people, including myself.)

I also unfollow people who post 100 horrible cam photos of themselves a day, from a slightly different angle.

And I'm about to start unfollowing models who retweet the same posts from their blog over and over. It drives me crazy. Even if you want to repost the info, change the photo! Wait a month or two to repost it, nothing bothers me more than seeing the same photos on my feed everyday.

I'm REALLY petty about what makes me unfollow people.

- Talking down to other people indirectly. This bugs me if it happens a lot, because I think we're all guilty of it once in awhile, but some people this is all their Twitter/blog consists of.

- Suicidal postings/really weepy-feel-sorry-for-me type of things.

- Slut shaming type of stuff. Shockingly enough I've had to unfollow at least on cam girl because of this. O_O

- Reblogging/retweeting stuff all the time that I have no idea what they're talking about/can't relate to.

- For cam girls - only posting when you go on cam and when you get off. I get that Twitter is for that, but include some funny thoughts or personal tweets once in awhile, bb. Make it seem like you're human and not a spam bot.

- Another cam girl one - automatic DM's when they follow me & I follow them back advertising what they do/where you can find them. These are usually the chickies that also only post log on/log off stuff.

EDIT:

- People who are constantly combative/defensive. Picking out posts made by people they don't know & starting shit or passive aggressively calling out other people all the time. We get it, you're a bad ass with standards.

Most of my reasons have already been listed, but recently Chelle posted on tumblr about why she unfollows certain people and it hit the nail on the head for me.

Short story- one night I was just browsing my tumblr feed and eating some trix, when all of a sudden a video of a girl barfing started playing....I have no clue why that video had an automatic start and none of the other videos do, but I wasn't able to finish my dinner. :?

So I'm going to completely plagiarize Chelle and post what she posted:
If you reblog people vomiting/pooping/dead animals/whatever, I’ll unfollow.
Sometimes I look at my tumblr while I’m online and horny, because I like to look at porn gifs while I diddle.
If’ I’ve unfollowed you, please don’t be offended.
It is probably because you posted something that killed my lady boner.
I still love you, though.

Call me a pussy, but I don't want to see dead things or gross things. :?

i unfollow people...

- if they're stuck up
- if they don't answer my mentions or pm's, that's just rude
- if they nag about shit too much... and if this is the main source of their messages
- when i get in a 'i hate the world' mood... yes i'm lame like that..
- when twitter decides to be a dickhead.. and unfollows people on its own
- when someone attacks people for no reason

i'm an impulsive follower.. sometimes that turns out great... sometimes not so great...

3 is why I don't actually have/follow a Tumblr. I go to a girl's Tumblr page, and expect to see a blog about their daily happenings, or personal stuff, and most of the time it ends up being "reblogs" (?) of 100's of other peoples' stuff. I find it overwhelming and confusing. I personally feel a blog should only be stuff personally written or pictures posted that mean something to that person.

I tweet a LOT. No one complains, though, they always say they love when I get in a very twittery chattery mood. *shrug*

I've seen an abundance of redundancy (whoa those words look weird together) lately. A tweet, then a blog, then a tumblr, then an ACF or other forum post all about the same thing (sometimes identical text) all tweeted within a couple hours. It's a little off-putting.

So the TL;DR version of my multi-quote post: I have a busy timeline, and will only follow people who are entertaining or at least follow me back, and I unfollow for being more spam-bot than actual human, and I dislike Tumblr altogether. And I Tweet. A lot.

I follow because I am interested or friends with the person/place. much like eveyrone else.

I unfollow because they are rude or obnoxious, or they just start posting WAY to much stuff I don't care about.

First I have to admit to being a reblogger on Tumblr, and that is why I do not tell people what my account is. I will unfollow people on twitter because of flooding and/or negativity.

On a side note, if your account is locked I may be interested in following you, but be afraid of looking like a jerk by unfollowing once I see what you have been posting.

I'm not a massive blogger or blog follower, but as Shaun has said, on Twitter the two things that really annoy me and cause me to unfollow are people posting/retweeting inane rubbish or in-jokes that only a select few will understand or people moaning on about how shite their life is!

Do something about it then!

Grr

On le tumblr
+ Flooding get you un-followed, so fast. Like woooosh. Cool kids queue!
+ People who don't tag things, tumblr savior only saves me from triggering stuff...if people tag it correctly.
+ Anyone posts anything where the punchline is rape. Rape jokes aren't funny.
+ Excessive number of sex gifs, or only posting sex gifs.
+ overly negative

+ I DO follow some people just because I enjoy their bitchiness, or cattiness.
+ I follow every camgirl I can find, and try to re-blog her specials/sales/thingys when I see them/think my followers would be interested.
+ I'm nosy so I like people that post personal things, or well thought out essays on camsite etiquette.

I guess I should mention that at this point I have 3 tumblrs, my naughty tumblr, my cam tumblr, and my reblog all the things tumblr... I may have a problem.

At this point I'm following so many people on twitter it's impossible to keep up with it all. I'm almost hoping someone like, tweets about how they hate queers or something, so I can feel justified when I unfollow them.

I follow you, and I wouldn't say you were a high volume tweeter. On the default twitter client I receive maybe 3 or 4 tweets a day from you.

Probably because the default twitter client doesn't show tweets to other people (by default at least) unless you go looking for them. If you begin your tweet with an @somebody, it doesn't show up in my feed. Possibly most of your tweets are in conversations.

I am giulty of at least 1/2 the things people here say they unfollow blogs/twitter/tumblr for.

I treat my blog and twitter for the most part as simple advertisement. I post a shit load of pictures on twitter and then within the next 48hrs post them on my tumblr....always at a different part of the day so different people will see them.
I rarely re-blog on tumblr (I re-blog plenty on twitter) because my domain will (starting in Jan) be my tumblr (aka my website) for a while until I have the money to make the kinda website I would like. I do not want to confuse people or mislead them by re-blogging pictures of other sexy ladies.
I also feel that I may over tweet based on what many of you say. I have a very strong twitter following, and get quite a bit of business from it, so I try (failed today blah) to keep up with everyone and post a good bit.

Reasons why I personally follow a blog/twitter

-Sexyness
-Person I know
-They promote me/retweet/re-blog/or post my pictures (This is often to make sure I am getting credit and my links are not being taken off)
-Funny
-Interesting

Reasons why I personally UNfollower a blog/twitter

-negativity (The I can't make rent, magically every 13/14 days need help desperately bit) or (The omg all I do is watch all these sexy ladies, ill never be pretty)
-flooding---I enjoying an active blog/twitter---but there is a limit
-boring---sometimes a twitter or tumblr just get's boring to me after a while---same jokes in a different format kinda thing.

Ah that's right, unless you follow that @somebody, too.

I gave up on feeds & following for blogs a few years ago. I stop in on blogs when it occurs to me to do so. It's nice when a conversation reminds me of an old blog and I can go back and catch up.

I was planning on bed soon, but thanks to this thread I've ow remembered a load of blogs I should check up on.....

I don't really follow blogs, per se, I read blogs. I do have a few blogs that I read regularly, but I have to actually go to the bog to read it. There are some that I go to almost daily.

The reasons I read are pretty simple, the writing is excellent and the content interests me. If a blog is all pics and nonsense, I will not read.

I know that was simplistic. But for me, it is not really complicated. Write interesting stuff in an interesting way and I'll read. Post a ton of pics and have very little substance, I'm out.

obviously only speaking of private life feeds :
* preaching about opinions I do not share. Like hardcore vegans who will flood you with pictures of mountains of dead veals with captions like "they tore their stomach away from them in their mother's womb to put them on your bread!!!!" when you mention you've had nutella for breakfast.Fuck off.
* general boredom. If you're boring to me obviously I have no need to follow you,but that's all a matter of compatibility.
* I think that's it...................

I don't unfollow negative , bitchy, argumentative people who get into fights a lot, because I'm the weirdo who stands on the side chanting "blood! blood!" and eating popcorn.

I don't follow any blogs. I just don't have the patience to read them on a regular basis.

I unfollow Twitters for flooding mostly. I also might unfollow if I find the content annoying (usually constant whining or "inspirational" quotes about how we should lead our lives) or if the tweets mostly consist of retweets. An occasional cool retweet is fine, but if most of what you've got to say is passing on what someone else said, I may as well follow them instead if I want to hear what they're saying. I actually have no problem with tweets from models about when they're logging on. That's one reason I follow them. If they say nothing else, no problem. I see no reason to unfollow because I'm not seeing more tweets.

What do I want to see in tweets? Information I want, things I find interesting, or things I find funny.

-Too much porn pics/gifs. I don't mind the occasional one, but if someone floods my dashboard of it, I unfollow.
-Suicidal blogs (like Lacie said, it's triggering), anything negative, etc.
-If the person is stuck up, conceited, etc. I hate seeing overly inflated egos.
-I've had occasional followers who think since they've followed me for a while and have sent me some asks, they feel it's ok to ask if I can get on cam for free right then. But that's self explanatory lol.

There are a few people who I follow(ed) who I've had to remove the mobile notifications for, because they were pretty much blowing up my cell phone with unnecessary tweets...things that could've taken them 1 or 2 tweets to say, yet they chose to say it in 6 tweets.

For example, they'll tweet something like this:

1. I have school today.
2. Fuck!
3. Really don't wanna go.....
4. Might just skip my class.
5. I wanna cam instead...lol.
6. Any offline tips would be appreciated!

It didn't need to take 6 tweets to say that...lol. I know Twitter has a character limit, but I could've said all of the above in one tweet.
