What do you recommend for light, especially for a beginner on a budget? I don't necessarily mean cheap budget hacks like using wax paper and a Bayco Clamp Light from Walmart. I'm looking for decent semi-professional lights for someone on a budget. I'm also looking for lights for a compact room. The lights will probably be kind of close to us and I don't want to over do the brightness and blind us out :) I super appreciate any recommendations! I just need somewhere to start looking at the very least. I feel kind of clueless about what kind of light I should really be looking for :)

Here's the professional lighting kit that I got from Amazon for under $100, the lighting can get pretty bright so if you're in a small space maybe look into getting softer bulbs, maybe with a slight pink tone so it doesn't look harsh? :) Limostudio Lighting Kit

For a lil cheaper this is what I use, and love it.

It depends a little on your space and how you cam. I have a pretty big supply of high end video lighting for my production company but for cam, I prefer using simple paper lamps like this. and this. I also really like using a ring light and will use one more once I move my cam space somewhere that I can actually fit it.
I used a big umbrella set up for years and I'll never go back.

I wanted to change out my octopus lamps for that floor version, but it has the dinky little weird lightbulbs inside, right? I have one in my gaming room right now, wondering if you've found one that takes normal bulbs so I could use my soft white LEDs or colored bulbs.

Aw dang I guess it does take the smaller base bulbs. I had them in my old place but I didn't remember that about them. I used to have a couple of these and I loved them, and they take normal bulbs. LINK

I'm obsessed with youtube videos and ringlights. But they can get pretty expensive and not very practical when traveling. I've made a few diy versions for myself and friends and now I'm going to make another one just for my desktop. This is probably the best tutorial I've seen so far.

similar but takes a regular base bulb

I imagine you could find a paper shade you liked better if you didn't like that one to fit it

yes!

I'm having good luck though I haven't broadcast yet, just with test clips on my own - with good CRI rated LED bulbs- an octupus lamp I happened to have already and a pair of clip on desk lights from walmart that were only 7 bucks - and a small night stand type lamp with a pretty low lumens rating bulb as a third, behind me to the side light to break up my background. I wanted my set up to be somewhat dark away from me but visible.
I diffused over the shades where I need it with either tissue paper or an ultra cheap white shower curtain I cut up and taped over the shades.
The LEDs are great because they barely generate any heat but even still I double/quadruple checked to make sure none of the appliances got hot.

I spent more money on bulbs than actual lights because I figured even if I fell on my face with camming I could use the bulbs throughout my house - I'm a color nazi with LED bulbs.

There are TONS of youtube vids for setting up webcam lighting that are geared towards youtube channel creation but its absolutely the same thing.
I was really trying to achieve good clarity and soften any perceived imperfections (makes me feel more confident).
