I have been having a bit of a debate tonight, bear in mind this is in the UK but the general consensus is that The West Wing is the best television programme ever commissioned.

Its just searing Television, as an outsider, its how I hoped and prayed American politics was, its idealistic but then again so is all of Sorkins work, I genuinely believe that when the dust of time settles this series will be up there with the very best. IMO you can identify with at least one character,

There were over 5000 people at the last US election who wanted Bartlett for President, so come on out haha

I agree with you and am currently re-watching for the first time on Netflix. You might want to check out Sports Night. It is also written by Sorkin and came out before The West Wing on a different network but only lasted two seasons, sadly, and was every bit as good as TWW.

I am hoping the Newsroom on HBO, the current Sorkin project, will turn out as good as The West Wing. Also very idealistic but I liked the first season despite some of the characters being a bit too cartoonish.

I am also constantly watching TWW on Netflix. It is almost always up on my second monitor. Apparently you brits and I do have something in common after all.

I was in the pub on Friday night and having a similar conversation as the OP. I love The West Wing. It's great TV, with excellent scripts and great actors. Not sure if its ever possible to chose the greatest but if I had to, then the "greatest" TV series in my opinion would be The Wire (and that would be discounting show's such as The Sopranos, 24, The Killing, Breaking Bad, Twin Peaks.....).

Just my :twocents-02cents: worth though.
