I'm wondering...

I play Warhammer 40k and Fantasy. (Lizardmen, Orcs, Space Orcs, and Eldar) ... My Warp Spiders are bright pink. And so are my Wraith Lords. They have happy faces on their helmets. ;) The army only ever won best painted before, never a title because I spent too many points on expensive things because of how cute I painted them... T~T

I also have Space Marines. They are no fun to play because I feel like they are invincible and boring.

I have a bajillion DBA (I believe it stands for De Bellis Antiquaticas) armies (historical 15mm mini game).. My favorite armies are my Spartans because they are all naked.

I have a Russian Flames of War army because my dad really wants me to play Flames of War, but I don't know how to yet (despite winning two tournies....)

I also play many many many board games.
Catan
Carcassone
POWER GRID (my favorite lately)
Starfarers of Catan (I got a copy for $50 off a store shelf... they didn't know it was discontinued and really expensive)
Agricola
Red Dragon Inn (such a fun drinking game)
Dominion (deck building game)

And that's not even half of all the games in my closet. I also have some Magic decks.. But they are overpowered and old and not tournament friendly. :p

So... what do you guys play in the real world, with dice and cards and boards??? :p

the last card game I played was Munchkin
when I had friends, in town and that weren't married or with kids, I used to play lots of

D&D
Shadowrun
Axis and Allies
Shogun
A Game of Thrones

I've always wanted to play Warhammer 40k

Great fucking thread.
Every time i see the video game thread i think about creating this one and then I shrug is off saying no one will wana join in!
Glad I am wrong.

My current favorites---we literally play at these two of these games at least once a day.

Talisman

Pathfinder -- which I have been told is kinda like a new D and D---but I never tried that.

DC Deck Builder -- Seriously craving an expansion

Muchinkin! :h:

Cranium -- I love this game but you need at least 4 people, who we always seem short! We played it during the last bbwfest and i literally peed on the floor laughing. Literally

MUNCHKIN!

STRATEGO!

Sorry about all the caps today. Apparently I'm in a great mood and want to shout about things that make me happy.

Stratego is best played by a crackling fireplace, sipping on something that makes you feel sophisticated. IMO. Also, I think I dominate the scoreboard of this game against Jawbs.

One of my newer coworkers has a LOT of different tabletop/board/card games so he's been hosting game nights every month or so. So far we've played Carcasonne, Mamma Mia, Diamant, Flash Point: Fire Rescuse, Fluxx, No Thanks, and Ticket to Ride. One of the other participants is looking to ease everyone into Pathfinder RPG as well. We've only met 4 times so far so at this point it's mostly been trying out some of the multitude of games he owns without much repeat play on anything other than Carcasonne. It's pretty good fun though.

currently only Anima: Beyond Fantasy (the RPG, not the card game)

When I was very little, Trouble and Monopoly were my favorites. But I much preferred solo activities like playing with my legos, or making k'nex weapons and tanks for my barbies. Also, a game that a lot of people call othello, but it wasn't called that...

High School: Magic the Gathering, Pokemon Card Game, Mage Knight (miniatures), all played with my brother who liked to cheat

College: D&D, Magic the Gathering, MUNCHKIN!

I'm interested in learning Go. I miss my Magic Cards.

Anyone who misses playing games, you can always check out the local comic book shop or game shop for flyers. Don't see any? Post your own!

back when i was 17 i started playing and DMing D&D with the original system. swapped to advanced soon after and progressed to 3.5ed back in 02 i think it was. got around 100 or so books from that, plus around 1k figures for it. don't have a group anymore and will probly sell all that off. (not easy to find a group when yer a shut in with agoraphobia lol). tried just about everything over hte years..... marvel heros, call of cthulu, all the white wolf stuff.

but through it all i most often ran my own system. started cooking it up when i was 17 or so. it was set in the near future (2019 back in 1992) after the god wars reawakened magic on earth. it blended magic and high tech along with super powers. it is complicated as hell (takes about an hour or more to roll up a character) and based on d100, but you could completely customize a character down to the last detail. it has vamps and were-creatures of all kinds, plus a handful of alien races. we both fought against and played gods, demons and everything in between over the years. fun as hell, and uber bad ass. heck my core group that i played with from my teen years preferred playing it to anything else.

i don't get to table top anymore, but 2 of my novels are based around the idea of the god wars, so the reality lives on in my head still.

Hello! I am an avid/borderline obsessed tabletop gamer!

Despite having a tiny, tiny apartment with only 2 closets, one of our closets is completely dedicated to games and is full of them from top to bottom.

This thread was kind of already made a while back, maybe they should be merged?

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=11277&hilit=tabletop+games

I am going to copy/paste the first part of my response from the other thread:

I am a HUGE tabletop/board game geek. I am fucking batshit crazy for them and am lucky enough to be surrounded by friends who love them too! We have regular game nights! I would love to chat with people about tabletop games, I'm adding a partial list in case we have some in common that we can talk about!

A teeny tiny sample of some of my current favorites:

Betrayal at the House on the Hill
Arkham Horror (and expansions)
Mansions of Madness
Flash Point
Sentinels of the Multiverse
Munchkin
Shadows Over Camelot
Fluxx (and expansions/alternate versions)
Gloom
Zombie Dice
Cosmic Encounters
Power Grid
Ticket to Ride

I've been into tabletop games for quite a while and recently I discovered Wil Wheaton's show Tabletop which is simply incredible! I highly recommend it, it is now part of "Geek & Sundry" which was launched by the brilliant Felicia Day and some other awesome people. It's like a geeky haven of entertainment.

I am actually planning on starting a D&D group on MFC soon and am gathering players so if you have any interest shoot me a PM or MFC mail! ^.^

High fives to all of my fellow tabletop gamers!

ok ok

A bunch of people said munchkin

My favorite expansion is Munchkin Cthulhu, but I've played a lot of the expansions, including Munchkin Fu, Star Munchkin, Super Munchkin, Munchkin Impossible, Munchkin Bites, and The Good, The Bad, and the Munchkin. They are all great fun, and add to the experience, especially if you are using an expansion that is specific to your realm of interest, so you get all the inside jokes.

I'm also a pretty avid gamer. I don't get to go game very often anymore, but when I do, I'll play just about anything. I love love love pre-4th ed D&D and Shadowrun. As for board and card games go, there's a lot to list. The hits have mostly all been listed here, and include Cards Against Humanity, Catan, Magic: the Gathering, Risk. I will kick your ass at Trivial Pursuit and Monopoly. I can't help it. I'm just that good.

Does anyone else here watch Wil Wheaton's show, TableTop? It's so great, especially for a guy who doesn't get to hang out and play games as much as he'd like to.

I noticed right after I posted... I've been saving up the most recent shows.

Oh! And this got posted to the G&S Youtube channel the other day! Could make for an interesting theme night on cam, maybe...

DUDE! Maybe we are just psychically linked! I am indeed celebrating Tabletop Day in my room (with a mash-up to celebrate the new Doctor Who episode)!! Come on by for some gaming fun! ^.^

It's on a Saturday?

Saturday is when my group meets up anyway! I shall be playing Anima on teamspeak that day.

Also, roll20.net is AWESOME! Seriously guys, check it out. It's like gametable. It's free. You can choose to show your webcam. You can choose to use a microphone. You get a ton of space to upload any pictures you want, and you can search all the pictures that other people have uploaded. (Unfortunately, people don't know how to tag stuff. So a search for "chest" gets a ton of boobie pictures, and almost no actual treasure chests... but I'm working on fixing that. Very slowly.)

Anyway, southsamurai, you could start up a game as the gm and post it to "looking for players". It's free, though there are perks for people who pay (like being allowed to "looking for players" for more than just a couple games at a time..). When you post to "looking for players", you can specify day and time, so you only get people who are free to play around that time.

To be honest, I haven't tried any looking for players games, cause I have a group. So I can't attest to the quality of the gamers you'll get. BUT, it's worth a shot, right?

Ah yessss. DBA is fun, the much larger DBm much less so. I have a Rajput army with all the elephants having naked female parasol holders.

40K I used to play tyranids before they changed the rules twice and my codex 3 times and I could not be bothered rebuilding my army each time.

I have seen a hello kitty themed Sisters of Battle army with pink glitter rhinos and and hello kitty penitent engines.

Fantasy I still play. I had dark elves, but they were a bit good, so I went to high elves instead and my god they suck :D

Don't play much any more, life has sort of caught up with me, so its mostly computer games these days.

I'm guilty of playing 40k for the last 20 years :shifty: i have a space marine and a traitor guard army

Currently playing Mage, gumshoe: Esoterrorists and Warhammer fantasy RP

Recently play tested DnD next and 13th Age not bad at all

On the boardgames front i mostly/recently/enjoy playing:-

Munchkin
Roborally
Power Grid
Ticket to Ride
Dominion
Puerto Rico
Settlers of Catan
Arkham Horror
Mansions of Madness
Carcassonne
Eclipse
King of Tokyo

I'm sure I'm missing a lot from the list but it helps when you have one of "those" friends who buys new games every week to inflict upon you

Wow, we are all such total geeks! :D

About Munchkin and Ticket to Ride... These games frustrate me sooo much!! :p I lose every single time, and I actually called my little sister's best friend (a nine year old) a hoe-bag when playing Ticket to Ride once... xD It brings out the worst in me. HAHA!

I forgot all about Axis and Allies. :) I LOVE that game. Though when I play it the old history buffs are always making references about "WHY IS MY RUSSIAN (insert model #) TANK DOING IN THE SIBERIAN DESERT?!" and I just don't get it. Historical jokes are totally lost on me... -,-

Oh I didn't mention D&D. I have played four campaigns, always rolling a half-orc fighter. I am the most boring player though because I have such a hard time staying in character, that my character is practically mute.

I also have Talisman but find it to be boring unless there are at least four players. Otherwise people just tend to go on their own little journeys and never fight or compete really.

Oooh, Amber. I SUCK at Stratego. At least against my husband. I have no poker-face, so whenever he's close to my flag my face shows how worried I am... :p

Monopoly in my house was a mess. My dad had the whole board memorized and the cost of everything, too. A game took 20 minutes, tops. :p If you rolled an 8 from go he knew exactly where that put you without having to count, haha.

It went like this,

Little Jillian: *rolls dice* *tries counting pips*
Dad: IT'S READING RAILROAD. $200. DO YOU WANT TO BUY IT??!
Little Jillian: O_O *starts counting money*
Dad: You don't have enough, you'll have to put park Place on Mortgage for X amount...

He knew everything. So I hate Monopoly now.

Ooh, Red7227, I LOVE Elephants. I have two armies with them. Numidians... and... I want to say some Indian army, but I don't remember exactly what they're called. I have cigar boxes full of armies in my closet though. I started using a tool box though because the tool box is magnetic and so are all my bases. :) You should see my DBA board. It's so beautiful. I went to Home Depot and even got molding to put around it. HAHA! xD Oh jeeze, I'm a total loser, but I love DBA.

You sound like my hubby. He plays Tyranids and Dark Elves. His Cauldron of Blood has a naked dark elf lady taking a bath with a rubber ducky in it. :p I think it was a Reaper mini.

Oh, and someone mentioned Puerto Rico!!! How could I have forgotten? I love that game. My gaming crew has a bad habit of getting frustrated over that one though.

I'm sorry this thread already exists. I must have misspelled "tabletop games" when I searched for it or something because I see it now, and I didn't last night.

Yes, all of my harpies are the panty-less kind :D Very distracting for the poor 12 year olds I'm playing.

I used to love my hive tyrants. Strength 6, initiative 6, 6 attacks on the charge, no armour save and each wound inflicts a second wound (some venom thingy). Kids would brag about their uber combat character and it would never even get to hit :D I was so cruel.

Chaos in the Old World, wooooo! Also Last Night on Earth.

I used to play tabletop games like Pathfinder, Mage, and Vampire... but I don't anymore.

similar experience with my dad and chess btw. he taught me how to play and he was freakishly good at it for a guy who did manual labor most of his life and, while smart, is not considered a deep thinker by anyone who knows him

There are no variables in chess. I beat the same kid 78 times out of 80 but in turn lost to another guy about the same ratio. Unless you go out of your way to get a lot better, the same person will always beat you over and over again.

Happy TableTop Day guys! Hope you're all getting to play awesome games with friends!

I just joined a weekly DnD group :D
None of us have played in years, derp. I really want to try Pathfinder too..

And I feel like the only person ever who doesnt like munchkin :shifty:

My niece plays that weekly at college (pathfinder). Loves the game and keeps trying to get me playing too. I haven't played DnD since 1982. :)

I've been playing board games since I was 10. Although moving to Hawaii, meant the loss of my large gaming group but we still have a game day a few times a year. :)

My favorites are
Settlers of Catan
1830,and the other 18xx games
Ticket to Ride
Cosmic Encounters
Junta
Speed Circuit
Circus Maximus
I just bought Battlestar Galactica (where one or more players is a cyclon :) )

I also played lot of D&D through my 20s and early 30s,and some Magic the Gathering..

But my ultimate nerd hobby is/was playing ridiculously long, and complicated wargames, like World in Flames.
