Hello models/ members who might be able to assist me! I am making this post before an introduction so I definitely apologize. So, I searched on the forum for a little before posting but my answer might be only in the model related forums. Currently I am assisting a model with her first video for purchase postings. She wants to make sure it's streamed and cannot be downloaded so hosting options are a bit limited. I originally recommended screencast.com as a site for that since I know model leilee (formerly LeilaniLee) used that site for a good chunk of her content since it is password protected and you could choose whether or not to make it accessible for download.

Currently I was thinking about vimeo, but I do not know how strict their video rules are as in the disclaimer it is apparent that the videos in question would be a bit too risque'. Any suggestion you would have for me to look into would be greatly appreciated.

Last side note, I am still waiting to see if it is a technical issue that needs to be addressed. I just want to be prepared in advance the next time I talk with her. Thank you!

I don't really have an answer to your actual question--but would just like to point out that if something is a video is being streamed on a website, there is almost always away for it to be downloaded (there are a ton of apps that do this)--so I'm not sure that such a site (if an appropriate one exists) would really serve your purposes, anyway.

And just as a side note, I'm by no means a video buying connoisseur--so maybe I'm way off on this--but this seems like a weird strategy given the vast amount of models who sell videos that you get to download onto your hard drive and you know, enjoy forever and stuff... :-D

yes I am pretty sure keeping it 100% non-downloadeble is impossible, but there are ways to discourage it. I think the best success would be to host your own wordpress site and search for a video-plugin, also you'll need a plugin that keeps people from viewing the source code, for that's how you can easily reach the location of the video file and thus download it.

it's up to you if you want to make that much of an effort though ;)

Thank you for the replies! Yes, I am aware of third party software. Screencast was pretty good essentially because external programs like jdownloader or FLV downloader could not grab the source video. There were other methods around it such as actually sitting there and letting capture software record it, but at least it shut down most of the "lazier" methods to it.

The main thing is that the site just needs to have the option of whether or not the video is downloadable directly from the source. Sites like zippyshare are an example of what I am talking about with this as it is capable of streaming, but also the video posted is put up for download as well.

The wordpress idea is an interesting one though which I will look into when I can, so thanks for the input Fay ^_^

Can I ask what her reasoning is for not allowing the videos for download? Like Kruk said, I don't know if there's as much as a market for videos that you can't download and keep. People like tangible things. And if it's just a link to the video to watch, couldn't the buyer feasibly just share the link with others, then?

I do not think you can stop people recording things very easily.

Just incase you were thinking of still using screencast.com

** video from their homepage, on my desktop **

It does seem to have some circumvention/setup in place to stop some external programs from detecting that the video is playing, but i've found a program that is still able to download their videos.

But instead of even needing to download/buy/install a program, it took me less than 5mins to get the video they have on their homepage downloaded.

** As others have said, if it can be played then it can be downloaded or at least screen recorded. **

I'm guessing she wants them to be streamed to reduce the chances of them being shared & kind of having a sense of who has access to the videos and where they might end up.
Even if she just gives access to people who she kind of trusts, there's nothing stopping them from sharing the links/passwords, then making some bullshit excuse that there computer/email account got hacked.

Remember to be aware that if they do get uploaded to other sites, it will be up to her to handle getting them removed.

http://model4.zenfolio.com/

zenfolio.com made for photographers, but does work just as well for your application
it will do most of the stuff you want it to do, for free, without doing work, of knowing anything, or taking risks

If you know things like...
php / html / java / aws3 / or are able to invest $10 a month in your business then possibilities are endless

I agree, wordpress is a good call for clients though, PM me if
you have any questions about how to create a wordpress site
to stream videos or offering them for one-time sale, or memberships..

hope that helps
