I've been waiting for this game for too long. I never really watched south park, but I'm very interested in the game. (I didn't watch the full video because spoilers)

I pooped my pants when I saw the class select screen.

I might get it just so I can be the Jew. Art imitating life and all that jazz.

I freaking love South Park!!!
:hello1:

I've had this pre-ordered for sooooo long now. Hopefully it launches on time, happy birthday to me! I'm so excited for it.

I've never preordered a game, because I prefer to wait for reviews, given how many big-name bombshells have happened recently. But in this case even if the gameplay is terrible, it looks like it will still be worth it just as a stand-alone South Park episode or movie. It looks completely loaded with all the South Park humor we'd expect.

I preordered it back during E3 2013. I saved $20 doing that, and was also sent an email yesterday informing me that I'm being upgraded to the Grand Wizard edition for free.

Yay!

No one should be this excited to join the Grand Wizard in the KKK... But, really, I'm just glad it is finally coming out. And I kind of hope there is a Betrayal Garden in the game.

Holy poo. I just realized I didn't pre order it because I couldn't decide which platform I wanted it on. Oh well. :D

As of writing, you have 9 hours and 45 minutes left to pre-order the PS3 verzion on Amazon.com if you get 1-day shipping. Get on it, woman.

Or just go on Steam and preorder it for PC. Same pre-order bonus.

Well, Trey Parker got his wish! GameSpot did not give the game a rating of "4". They gave it a 7. But I hate that website, so I'll link this review instead:

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/03/south-park-the-stick-of-truth-respect-its-authori-tah/

or this one

http://www.gameinformer.com/games/s.../pc/archive/2014/03/04/south-park-review.aspx

In general, reviews seem to consistently state that the writing and humor is top notch, while the gameplay is acceptable at a rather short 12 hours.

(counts minutes until FedEx gets here)

Anybody with Steam already playing it?

Grabbed it for the 360. Bout to install and redeem the pre order outfits and start a all day session.

Just got home and popped in the PS3 version. Of course there's already an update to download and install...

It was only like 20 MB. So many games now have giant day one updates, so it's hard to complain at this point about 20 MB.

What I will complain about is that I first redeemed my DLC code on PSN, then started up the game, which installed the update. Then I got a "corrupt game data" error which forced me to delete everything that had just downloaded. I figured that maybe it doesn't like having the DLC installed first, so I wiped teh game data, started up the game, let it download its update again, then let it install stuff to the HD (which it hadn't gotten to before), then re-downloaded the DLC, then started up the game again.

Then it worked.

So far I'm enjoying the game. It is a bit buggy, but not too horrible. The frame rate tends to lag right after battles, there are some glitches with the Timmy animation being cut off, opening/navigating the Facebook thing is a bit slow, etc. And it has frozen once (requiring a reboot of the PS3) but I suffered through the early days of Skyrim so one freeze isn't all that bad. :)

Animation, voice acting, script: all great.

Combat: sort of like Paper Mario and the other Mario RPGs but not nearly as fluid. But there's enough humor to keep it fun. I don't think any other game has done half as well with the random battle quotes, which so far are never annoying.

I've mostly wandered around the map and done a bunch of sidequests. It took me a few hours before I actually accomplished the first real story objective (rounding up a few characters).

The humor comes in little bits and pieces. So far mostly in funny references to episodes. Anyone who doesn't watch South Park regularly will miss much of it. I can really only recommend the game to people who are well-versed in the show. But for South Park fans, the game is great fun. :)

So far, I've just run around doing sidequests. But, in doing so, I've gotten 3 summons. Not used one, yet. And can't use them in boss fights, because each character says "I'm scared of bosses," essentially. Not that it matters, I've done so many sidequests before even doing any of the gathering of characters

To anyone who was stuck forever trying to knock down the cracked wall in Vancouver with a Nagasaki fart... just hit the wall with your melee weapon.

:?

Love this game! Played through it twice and did everything there is to do. I hope they make a sequel or put out some dlc but with the way Parker & Stone operate I'm not holding my breath for it.

I beat the game yesterday. The game starts a little slow, but in true South Park fashion it keeps ramping up and the last third is crazy.

The whole Canada segment is perfect.

Zombie Nazi Chef and Princess Kenny were great final bosses. Chef due to the history of that character, and Kenny because it made for an interesting boss fight. And yet another way to refer to Kenny's repeated death & resurrection.

I need to gather up some more collectibles. And play through as another class and get those trophies I missed out on.

I have no idea how far I am progressed in the storyline. I just hit level 7 and

after I finished the spaceship segment, completed the Al Gore Manbearpig selection and then died trying to unfriend him. I think I need to get stronger before I go back into that fight! Also, the Mr Hankey quest was hilarious. Of course one of his kids is named Amber. There is a poo named Amber. Fabulous!

So, could anyone who has completed all of it give me a rough idea of how far I am along? Halfway?

^^ so anyone who already completed it read that and let me know!

The spaceship is 1/3 of the way through the main story.

Manbearpig and Mr Hankey are sidequests that you can do any time. Manbearpig is probably better to do after about level 10. I think it was the last sidequest I finished. (I think I was probably level 15, at which point it was a real pushover.)

I just beat the game for the first time. It was amazing.

If you remove the South Park element, it's actually not a great game. As a stand-alone RPG, it's pretty lame. The battle system is not very well balanced. For example, as soon as I got the Jew ability "Whirling Doom", I just spammed that for obscene damage in every non-boss battle to quickly end it. I also almost never ever used ranged attacks. They just rarely did as much damage as my melee attacks. Same with magic farts. I almost never used those either, even if an enemy was on fire (which magic farts would ignite). It was too much of a hassle to replenish the mana in order to get only marginally better damage.

But if you can put that aside, and focus on the South Park experience, it was a journey you'll never forget. I loved every part of it, especially as I got closer to the end. I would say, overall, the visual style upon entering "the realm to the North" was my favorite surprise. Well, after the Gnome final battle scene that Punk is probably talking about

The maximum experience level you can reach in the game is level 15. I hit that level several hours before I actually completed the main storyline. Which means your character growth is only though equipment and perks at that point.

Many of the sidequests can be beaten at any point in the game (past the intro) or postgame. In fact, I'd say half of the time you spend playing the game is spent on sidequests. So, Amber, it's kind of hard to judge where you are in the story line based only on a single sidequest. But based on the other mainline quest you mentioned, I'd estimate 33% to 50% completion.

Agreed. The mechanics of the game are not balanced at all.

The music in that area was great too. :)

It took a while for me to notice that I'd stopped leveling up. Yeah, I hit the level cap at around 75% of the way through my playthrough. :( I don't really understand why it was capped like that, but i guess they just didn't want people to be able to unlock all the abilities. (It seems like the perks are the same way … I seem to have stopped getting new ones after 100 friends.)

After playing through it once and doing pretty much everything possible (besides the random achievements I might someday go back and grab), I have to say that this game is just flat out amazing.

I'll just go ahead and echo the sentiments expressed above--the RPG element of the game is at best OK--it's probably even more complex than it needs to be (with tons of abilities, options, and items you'll probably never end up using--not to mention the seemingly endless array of status effects), but all and all the battle gameplay serves as a vehicle for the game's comedic story-telling, which is really what this game is all about anyway...

Basically, this game is like a giant playable interactive South Park movie (a really long movie)--sure by traditional RPG standards this game is pretty short--but given the amount of seamless cut-scenes, amazing voice acting, and stellar writing etc. I'm not really sure that a much longer game would've been all that feasible (without adding tedious RPG grinding elements/areas that would've detracted from the stellar story)--especially considering how evident Trey and Matt's role in the games creation is. Sure--an even LONGER game would've been amazing--but only if that longer game was able to pack in the consistent quality/comedy throughout, and I'm not really sure how realistic those expectations would be...

If you're a South Park fan and you play video games, this game is a total slam dunk. You will be thoroughly entertained.

If you don't like South Park and it's brand of humor, you will most likely absolutely hate this game--it is really true to the experience of the show.

I'd really be interested to see the reaction of someone playing through this game that had never previously watched or heard of the show...
