I get a lot of messages from girls interested in camming and I am often surprised by just how many ask me if a site is "safe", or balk at filling out the forms to sign up on a site because you have to put in all of your most precious personal information (I can understand feeling nervous, I know I did too at first for some of the sites). I also get messages from people asking if sites are "legit", as if they are not safe to use from the member's side as far as inputting bank info and stuff.

Is this what you meant by safe? Like which ones are "real" and ok to sign up on?

I think that other than some models being tricked into signing up with studios, I haven't heard of a site that isn't safe to sign up with. Obviously be cautious, but if you're looking at any of the top sites (which I would suggest you do), you're going to be fine! If it has an official thread here made by Amber, you can trust that it's a legit cam site that you can give your info to! There are a few site threads not made by Amber about some cam and clip sites, but if you read them and see that a bunch of us are signed up there, it's a safe bet that it's good to go! :thumbleft:

Of course, you might be talking about "safe" in the way that Natalia is discussing (and making good points about!), in which case it's a tricky issue since there are risks that come with camming but everyone has different ideas of what "safe" means.

Also, derp! Realizing now that you don't have Model Status and can't see the thread I linked! Haha distracted posting is bad guys! Obviously you can't get verified as a model until you sign up for a site and give them your info, so giving some examples is more important in this case so you can decide if you want to cam and such.

This is assuming that you means "safe" as in "legitimate", but here are some of the sites (I'm not giving an opinion on if these sites are good, but they're real cam sites and all that jazz). This was the list from the thread I linked (I added MFC since it was a list of non-MFC sites), it hasn't been updated since March 2013 but I think these are all still active.:

Myfreecams
Streamate
SkinVideo
Chaturbate
MyGirlFund
LiveJasmin
Cams.com
MyFreeImplants
Cam4
AdultWork
Camwhores.com
Flirt4Free

Some clip sites are:
Clips4Sale
Clipvia
Manyvids

We have some public threads about several of these sites so if you want more information on them or which are popular and why, you can search around for more info on each one!

There are camsites that pop up that shut down randomly, ban models without payouts etc.

If a site has very very few models working for it (live- that you can actually watch) avoid it.

A good bet is to post the name here before you sign up :)

internetmodeling is a site that is actually a studio designed to trick you into giving away a % of your paycheck. It's made to look like a 'site'.

It's much "safer" to work in a strip club. They don't allow cameras in there and there are bouncers to enforce it.

Because its not like strippers are ever murdered or stalked.

They obviously didn't do a proper risk assessment.

Being a stripper is way more dangerous than a cam model ever will be. The customers can easily get to your home much quicker than someone your talking to on the internet.

in strip club is not so much annoying customers :?

I'd rather deal with a bunch of annoying people I can ban, ignore, report to site admins to permaban than deal with someone in real life that can easily follow me home.

For once, I actually think I agree with him. I know that the physical threat is so much higher for dancers, but the ... visibility (for lack of a better word) is way higher for camgirls. So they kinda even out. But yes, I do think that being a stripper is WAY more dangerous. Simply because you're probably going to live within 50 miles of your club, you might be working the same hours, and they could simply follow you home. I know there are some strippers on here, and every time I read about your experiences, I shiver! I just want you all to be safe!!!!

Plus many of those stalker situations they may already know where you live. Clubs in small towns. Chances are greater the customers will be someone you may know, may have gone to school with. Maybe he's a friend of your cousin sort of thing.

They don't allow cameras, no, but many still allow phones. Smart phones have cameras, so unfortunately there's always that asshole who pushes it. It's illegal in most states to just take the phone away and delete the pictures. The guy gets kicked out, sure, but he still has your photo/video. Also, when there are 50+ girls working a night, it's hard for 1-5 bouncers to keep track of everyone.

Risk can never be completely eliminated, but only reduced. When getting into this industry, it's up to the individual to determine what's the appropriate level of risk that they are willing to accept.

From my very basic level understanding, there is inherent risk in doing any video sex work because of how it's typically distributed: ~*the internet*~

If you're worried about safety in the sense of anonymity and protection from having your content shared in places you don't want it, I would maybe refrain from doing cam or porn work.

I don't know much about internet copyright law, but I do know that it can be very loosely interpreted by courts because the problems people have with it are still so new. It would be annoying to have to spend all that money hiring a lawyer to file a claim and not know for certain that you'll receive damages. I would definitely try your best to parse out whatever disclaimer a cam site wants you to agree to, even if it's the only "Terms & Conditions" you ever read.

If you're worried about physical safety, I recommend being smart: never share your real phone number, real personal email address, or even the city you live in with strangers. Even if it's a big city, but especially if you live in a small town. There are email masking and password protection services you can pay a small fee for if you want to make extra sure your information isn't vulnerable.

I have never cammed so I can't speak to which sites are sketchy with payment.
