I think black would look good, but I'm also partial to black ink tattoos. I'm pretty biased considering my own, lol.

Can they do some kind of shading? to make it almost translucent? I tried to google about it but your tattoo artist would know better what is possible... Here are some links.

"Tattoo Tip #3 – Mix the tattoo ink.
Tattoo shading uses ink in shades from light to dark. Lighter shades of ink, often referred to as a wash, can be created by mixing ink and sterile water. The more water that you add, the lighter the wash. One of the more useful tattoo tips for shading from tattoo artists is to create washes ahead of time in the exact shades that will be required for a shaded tattoo. This eliminates the need for stopping and mixing ink while the tattoo is being applied."

"If a lighter shade is desired for a particular area of shading, then the needles should next be dipped in sterile water. A 50/50 blend of black ink and water will create a medium gray wash. More water should be used to create lighter shades of gray or color. Some tattoo artists prefer to create washes ahead of time by mixing ink and water to create the desired wash. There are also tattoo artists who prefer to use witch hazel or some other substance instead of sterile water to dilute the pigment."

Anyway, that's my idea....a super diluted barely there hue of some sort.
:hello2:

This was actually how my artist did part of my back ink, with shading. It does look really good and isn't as obvious as the 'full' color. :) Lilredhairedgrl had it spot on. A hue seems like a fantastic idea!

and if there was some way to add a shimmer or sparkle to it...it may even be possible to use Gold dust! I am looking into the matter.

That would look hella cool!

My suggestion would just be to find the best artist in your area, give them an idea of what you want and let them take it from there.
Every artist has different techniques to create different and similar appearances.
I would not recommend suggesting types of ink or styles of application to an artist. It's like a member suggesting how we should dance.

But it's also a good idea to know about the different options out there. :)

What color should I do it in?

I like black ink tattoos. :)

I think the color red would be cool for the word 'LUST', since red has always been considered a "sexy" color (red high heels, red lipstick, red dress, etc.).

I'd say go with black, red, or hot pink.
