Hi Guys,

Not sure if there is a thread already on this but wanted to know what everyone's musical preferences are?

If you want to post some links to some examples from YouTube as well that will be cool.

As a young Brit I love my dance music but I love my drum and bass more. I do have an eclectic taste in music though so I do enjoy other styles as well including heavy metal, prog rock, classical and jazz.

My current favourite track at the moment though is this one:

London Elektricity - Meteorites

Some other tunes I like old(ish) and new:

Tom Hangs ft. Shermanology - Blessed (Avicii Remix)

Above & Beyond feat. Richard Bedford - Sun and Moon

Camo & Krooked - Fatman

Flux Pavilion - Bass Cannon

Konflict - Messiah (Spor Remix)

I've been playing with the idea of making such a topic for a while now, but got beaten to it by the looks of it. Oh well. :p

I'm mostly a metalhead, first and foremost. But while I went through the usual "EVERYTHING BUT METAL IS SHIT" phase as a teen, I've certainly gotten over that a long time ago.

So, although I still mostly listen to various kinds of metal (it's a stunningly diverse genre, afterall), I also have time for softer rock and even some pop and just whatever, plus I have a sweet spot for good filmscore music like the Conan the Barbarian and Starship Troopers soundtracks by Basil Poledouris.

All in all, I'll give pretty much anything a chance, and as a result, what I actively listen to ranges from this:

to this:

Oh and Wilfy, a word of advice: When using the youtube tag, don't put in the entire url, just the video "code" or whatever it's called. For example, aQv1oN4DNeU and 37ydWGLPlAg from what you posted. ;)

Hopefully fixed it now!

Cool Thread, but I think it might me in the wrong place. Think Random Discussion would have been a better place for it. Anyways......I love SO much music and my taste in music is all over the place. Here is a sample of the things I have playing on random in my playlist:

so much more, but Ambah would probably kill me if I use a whole page to post random music.

Gosh... I don't know. Let me see if I can get a small sampling that illustrates the breadth of my musical style.

Let's start with the heavy side.

And get a bit lighter.

And then what I consider chill rock. Only putting 2 here though this is probably like what I listen to most.

Gotta represent my Ska habit.

Add in some random sound tracks, a little acapella, plenty of classic rock, and then a little bit of random stuff that doesn't seem to fit.

@Mirra: Woooo Finntroll and most of all Nightwish! :h: The latter's been one of my topmost favourite bands ever since their second album came out and completely blew my mind. Absolutely love them and can't wait to hear the next album, from what I've read so far it's gonna be interesting.

Btw, does anyone else's music taste kinda fluctuate with the seasons? Personally, I tend to listen more to music of the darker and moodier kind during winter, and in the summer I basically go to cock-rock mode. I mean, of course everyone listens to music to fit their mood, but what I'm talking about is a larger-scale shift in preferences by and large.

For example, Agalloch are my go-to winter band:

Whereas this is the best summer song ever, hands down:

Agreed Nordick, I think I tend to listen to the darker, dirtier, heavier music in the winter and then the Summer tends to be more of the lighter stuff and house music - probably down to the Ibiza vibe.

I've started really digging French pop music, especially from the 1960's for cam music. It doesn't matter what they're singing about, le chante en Francais just makes it sound so sexy. I'm not sure how much you'd dig it though if you're usually more into hard rock or rap. That, or things like Thievery Corporation or Massive Attack always sounds like sexing music to me. But although a lot of their stuff is instrumental, there are a fair amount of songs with female vocals too.

I dunno. What do you boys like to hear us play? I try to play stuff that would appeal to a wide range of people, but I don't think the majority of the music in my library would fit in that category.

i don't care much what you play - sometimes its nice to find something new - but please if you are not doing a dance number just hold the volume down. First and foremost i wanna hear your voice.

Placing you tube links sounds really hard right now...
I like a lot of different stuff!
Rockabilly, psychobilly, Blues, 80's hair metal, traditional country western...
If you come to my room you are almost always going to hear The Reverend Horton Heat, Link Wray, Cracker, Portishead, and Motorhead... I try and throw in some supersuckers every chance I get. I wanna BE Eddie Spaghetti!

Yes, and I'd like to add, if you're just feeding the music from your speakers through a crappy microphone, or however it is that you get it to sound like a cat fight, no matter what music you play, then don't PLAY music at all. We all have iTunes, stereos, iPods, and a bazillion other ways to hear music clearly, why make your room torturous? :)

Let's see, like most so far I love my metal, but I mostly listen to Pandora at work now and have it set to shuffle through my stations. I was amused one day when it played Manson's "Beautiful People" followed by "Wicked Little Town" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, followed by something from Eminem. I will happily blast the theme music from many a film or game, especially The Dark Knight and Halo; also the 2004 BSG series.

And I ALWAYS leave room for Mr.s Ludwig van Beethoven, Modest Mussorgsky, and Antonio Vivaldi.

Oh, please tell me your name is a nod to Ms Parton! I can't believe I never thought of that. You're a redhead too, it's perfect. So many people will say, "Oh, I listen to everything. Except country." And no, I don't like that modern day Allan Jackson/Faith Hill garbage but old school country kicks ass! Loretta Lynn was so ahead of her time, singing feminist songs but keeping it fun, witty and light and without being overtly political.

Yes Ma'am!
Though I do enjoy Jack White I can not help but get frustrated at the never ending "you must be a white stripes fan" statement in my room.
DOLLY PARTON DAMMIT! Her hair was bigger than Jack white will ever be!
I am a HUGE country western fanatic! But only the old school stuff. That includes the bands now that stick to the old roots, like Hank III and Wayne the train Hancock.
You will often find me listening to my Slim Whitman records while doing the dishes.
New school country can definitely kiss my ass!

Big Queens of the Stone Age fan but I'm always looking for new bands.

Found a couple cool ones from Belgium.

I almost always have a Classic Rock Pandora station going on in my room. On nights I do a yoga show I torture the guys with The Best of Bollywood until the countdown is complete. Mwhahahaha

this thread just reminded me how kick ass my itunes is. :D i literally have at least one song from every genre and i have most of the songs listed here. however, when it comes time to cam i always draw a big fat brain fart and can't find music i like. lol. oh and i heard a modern update of my favorite patsy cline song at exxxotica and now i'm dying to know where i can find it. it was a death metal/grunge version and i LOVED it. i love metal remakes of my favorite oldies. :)
