Hello everybody,

I've got an odd problem: I've been a MFC member for a while (same nickname as here, SuperSheldon), I had fun there but got somehow bored and deleted my account last wednesday from the account management panel. But it didn't get deleted: I couldn't login (as expected) but the account appeared as a normal, active account if I added it as a friend from a basic account.

I wrote several (once or twice a day) messages to MFC to ask them to really delete this account. Of all of them I got only 1 answered, telling me that "Per your request, the account has been deactivated. Thanks.". Note that I wasn't asking for a deactivation, but a deletion. Anyway, the account still hasn't been deleted, but renamed into SuperSheldonx1a : how lame is that to pretend an account is deactivated while all they did was rename it?

The reason I post this message is to ask if any of you got a similar situation: is that standard MFC procedure to delete premium accounts?

Thanks in advance,

SuperSheldon

p.s. I had no clue where I could ask this question and this forum is what looked most appropriate.

Your account is deleted but it's kept in the system for 90 days so no one else can take your username during that period and pretend to be you. Try all that stuff again in 3 months and it will fail for you.

Actually, as this account has been renamed (they did it, I didn't) somebody could use it right now - I just tried to sign up a new account and SuperSheldon is available.

Interesting. They are supposed to lock them up.

They don't seem to be willing to answer my messages, or do anything about it. What could I do? Should I keep worrying about that or just shrug off?

By the way, I didn't read anything about these 3 months of purgatory on MFC wiki or on the deletion window in the account management: is that official? Or is it deduced from past events?

Reactivate the account and delete the profile yourself? Maybe they'd react more willingly to a request to reactivate.

Why bother deleting your account to a free site? (the membership is free) I think I'd just walk away.
For privacy reasons - the Snowden affair showed we'd better worry more about that than what we did in past, shouldn't we?

I guess that would be a solution. *Sigh* Gotta write to them AGAIN

What? Accounts are tied to a number, not a name. I expect the only check is that no one else has that name at the time you try to use it. As demonstrated by many models and members, names can change. Your ID is constant.

I can understand your concerns, but it's just a member account. If you weren't worried about your privacy before now then why are you suddenly so concerned now? I would just leave it and wait it out. The way myfreecams is set up you always have to re enter your card details, and seeing as it's deactivated then you don't have to worry about people hacking anyway. Unless you put all your real personal info all over your profile then I think it'll be ok.

This is all i was referring to. User names are locked for 90 days after last use so no one else can use them during that time.

I guess I could. What annoys me is to leave data behind me for an undetermined duration - it could still sit there in 10 years. And I don't need the NSA to know whether I like blonde girls on top of all they already know.

I've been thinking about AmberCutie's suggestion (reactivate the account and empty it myself): under what circumstances does MFC close accounts? I'm thinking about forcing them to delete my account. I guess pedophilia, Nazism or Al-Qaida things would do it - but then I'd probably really have troubles with the NSA, lol. I'd need something softer: has it occured in the past that accounts have been deleted due to advertising for competitors (like LiveJasmin)?

But doesn't your participation on this forum carry the same kind of data you worry about regarding MFC?

Good point, although it doesn't include as much data as on MFC, like how much time I spent in that room, at what time I got connected, how much cash did I spend, which languages I used, which links I posted...When you think about it MFC knows quite a lot about yourself - and everything is logged.

Probably a bad time to mention that I don't make a habit of granting deletion requests here at ACF either hmm?

Now you're getting crazy. Before jumping to those options, it would be better to just move on and let things be.

I remember learning that.

Bored and deleted account but decided to keep checking if it was still there, make basic account etc. No matter the real reason you deleted your account, the account itself and your profile belongs to MFC. They can do whatever they want with it. There is no requirement for them to actually delete the account at your request. They deactivated it and you can no longer log on to it. Move on.

Actually their Privacy Policy page on their wiki claims we user can request our personal information to be deleted:
http://wiki.myfreecams.com/wiki/Privacy_Policy

But according to the way they treated my requests I guess it's there for cosmetic reasons. As for your insinuations... no comments

No, I don't mind you having a one-shot email and some VPN IP addresses :)

I didn't get an answer to that question: under what circumstances does MFC delete accounts?

if you are concerned that the NSA has any info on your browsing habits, it's too late
"you done been mooned" they have had that info from the microsecond you signed
onto the Internet.

I dont think the NSA cares that you dig blondes. And assuming that information is stored somewhere, deleting it off MFC isn't also going to delete it off the servers belonging to the super-spy-government-men-in-black jerking off too your naughty PMs :p

I didn't get an answer to that question: under what circumstances does MFC delete accounts?

The policy clearly states you can request for the deletion of your information, it doesn't say it will be done instantly. In fact it actually says they keep around certain information for an indefinite amount of time.

MFC Policy from Privacy_Policy said:
Despite the foregoing and even though you have requested us to remove information, we will retain in our files certain data such as information used to resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems, comply with credit card merchant banking and association agreements, enhance security, reduce fraud, comply with Federal and State law, or to enforce any agreements, policies, and rules governing your use of our website. Removed information also may persist in backup copies and/or other users' caches.

As a note, one reason they might keep accounts around for a while is as they stated reduce fraud. If someone were to get your login credentials and click the delete account what would you do? If MFC had delete the account within a few days the real owner would be miffed if they couldn't recover the account, including tokens.

Or in the case of credit card fraud, if someone used a fake credit card and deleted the account, it can take a while before credit card companies flag a transaction as a fraud, and it is in MFC's best interest to keep as much information as possible.

As others have recommended just give it time, eventually most of the information will be deleted.

LOL I figured since he was concerned about MFC having his "blonde" preference out there for spies, that he'd also be upset that his words are forever on ACF as well.

Talking about privacy topics on a camgirls forum… hum… what was I thinking?

Oh, sorry. You should have mentioned that you are a cam girl.

While we're into it, it seems like I should have put a big sarcasm sign besides the blonde digging thing.

But well, "To be looked upon as a fool by an idiot is a true connoisseur's delight."
