Curious what the longest amount of time people have gone without using the internet. Took a 2 week break about a year ago but still used a few torrent sites and xbox live. What about you?

Ten years...and then we got our first computer.

Seriously though probably like...a month or less, and it would have been while my family was on vacation somewhere. Probably closer to a couple of weeks, actually. The Internet has been a huge part of my life since I was a child.

I moved to Yellowstone National Park in large part to get away from the internet. I lived there for three years. The internet can be easily accessed from the park, but other than periodically checking up on e-mail, I rarely bothered with it. With so much else to keep me occupied, it was really easy to go without. These days, I don't go much more than an hour or two without internet, and I'm bored and discontent most of the time. I should really move back to the park.

When I was younger, my family went to shit after my parents split up and I was forced to live with my mother at age 15 in a slum with huge spiders everywhere and no internet access for several months. I didn't have a phone either.

.... @.@ It was one of the darkest periods of my life. I watched The Boondocks Season 3 about 37 times during this period because it was the only DVD I had. :crybaby:

Longest? Hmm. Probably when on holiday. Or when i moved from my place and they cut it off 3 weeks early :D

Internet is a time filler. When I'm at work I don't use it for 7-10 hours (week days).
If I'm to a friends or going out, no internet. At my Grandma's - no internet. On Holiday, no internet.

I have my mobile, and use message apps (whatsapp), but rarely use the internet.
So longest without is whilst on holiday - but I only ever use it to fill time anyway so - it'd be easy to go without for longer :D

Whenever I'm away from home I'll go without it, I don't have internet on my phone so if I'm out I leave it all behind. If I'm on holiday usually I'll be without it, maybe checking e-mails every now and then, but it depends where I'm staying, if I have internet access or my laptop.

When I'm at home I have a real problem.

I did have no internet for 2 months a few years ago, was when I first moved out and I lived alone and camming was my only income. It felt very weird and very lonely. The internet had been supposed to be put in shortly after I moved in but there was a mix up with the order and apparently it was particularly busy at that time. The bullshit was, I was waiting for an engineer, a few days before the internet came on (this is after countless phonecalls to my provider, so much I actually started dating the guy who worked for the provider and was trying to help me get it sorted), I got a text telling me I didn't need an engineer and they just switched it on for me. As soon as I moved to my next place I changed provider and have had no issues since.

When I moved into my first apartment a few years ago, I was so broke that internet wasn't in the budget for the first 8 months. I lived off network TV, books, and whatever porn I could sneak and download at my desk job. :shifty:

In the past 10 years, the only time off I've had from the internet was when I was sleeping, but even then the torrents might've still be running. I seriously don't think I've been more then 24 hours without internet ... :? From my perspective, while not healthy, the interwebs is much more easier to deal with than real life, the information you find browsing is surreal (fuck yeah google) and the best thing, you can always power it off on a click of a button. Guess who's an introvert?

A week max back in highschool. I've had my o n personal computer since age six and had my own phone line to access dial up. Before that I rarely got on the internet.

Shhhh! :shifty: The internet has ears!

Probably two days. I always make sure there's internet wherever I go on vacation too. I think I might be addicted to mfc lol.
Even before mfc me and computer had a tight bond, plus I couldn't do my job then without having to check me email daily.

I went without if for about a week last summer when I was on vacation. There was internet access, but I left my iPad at home, and I still have one of those prehistoric "dumb phones".

I went several years growing up, because my dad would not allow a computer in our house. Even though his employer was giving them to everyone for free. The internet looked so fun in books, magazines, and on TV shows.

Probably 2 days. It took that long to get my service switched over when I moved once.

The internet wasn't even really a thing til I was in my late 20s - early 30s. My first experience with online communication was via the dial-up BBS systems that people ran on their home computers back in the dawn of our current digital society. Then a service came along called "QuantumLink" which MAY have been a forerunner of AOL. Their interfaces were very similar. From there I moved to AOL, then got an account with a local ISP. Not long after that, cable internet appeared on my radar, and the rest is history.

For someone who lived better than half my life without the internet even EXISTING as we know it today, it certainly has evolved into something perilously close to a necessity.

I was a rodeo kid living in the country. We got our first computer with dial up in 2000 I think, I was 13, though I rarely used it. I did some occasional dial up inter-netting in my teens but still not much. Got High speed internet for the first time in 2006 but it wasn't until I started camming in 2010 that I really gave a crap about whether or not I had it.

Boarding school, we didn't have internet in the dorms at all, so I could only use it in the school library, about half a hour a day. I didn't use it very often (I had been using it daily for the year before I went there). Probably two months without?

After I graduated college, I was living with friends of friends. The first, um... hm, maybe a month, maybe six weeks, they didn't have internet, so I didn't have internet. I found a cafe while living with them, so I think I went a max of 3 weeks without it.

After I started camming, I moved, and there was a problem with the internet. It took 1 or 2 weeks for the company to sort the problem out. Was AT&T. I learned the following about their customer service: your first year with them, they are awesome, and after that, they are shit.

The internet has been a huge part of my life since I was 8 and boy oh boy. Haven't escaped the internetz yet... :-D

Great question to ask....

Forcibly during college, my computer died so i had no internet for at least a month or so. With internet at my disposal, probably can go a couple days at max. But yeah, the internet has definitely replaced television in my life.

During my hospital stays last year, I went without internet the first time for almost a week and the second for a few days. Both times I was bored as hell and sick of watching stupid soap operas and sleeping all day.

Growing up we didn't even own a computer until after I was 13 or 14 and then I was limited to maybe half an hour a day until my parents gave me my own laptop (stupid decision their part.)
