I hate a mid-2014 MacBook Pro and I used it exclusively to cam from October 2014 to February 2016. I then built a PC which is now my main camming computer since it's a bit more powerful. My Macbook was always fantastic to cam from and I only ever ran into one slight annoyance with the Logitech Camera Settings software (it's pretty basic and not as many options as on PC). Other than that I say it didn't limit me in any way. Yeah sure, some programs are different between PC and Mac and what you use on one you might have to use something different on the other. But this never made it so I couldn't cam. I have even streamed games from my Mac to twitch and have it set up now that I can stream PC only games to my Mac, window capture, then stream the game! So from my personal experience there have been no limitations using a Mac vs a PC. Will say you'll get better bang for your buck building your own PC though. ^_^

Edit to add: My Mac is still my main video editing computer too.

My friend has a type of mac laptop that has zero shine on the screen and is amazing for camming outside in the bright sunlight (with my PC laptop it's near impossible to see the screen outside unless it's heavily shaded & facing away from sun.)

I have a customer who has said that he finds cam2cam privates on MFC and Streamate near impossible with his Mac and prefers Skype. Not sure if this a truth or not but it could be.

Also, up until 1 month ago, models who worked on Streamate and had macs could not download Streamate's preferred broadcasting tool, and the inability to download that affected their placement on the site. However, the broadcaster now is Mac compatible.

MAC has made programs that are for PC as well, there really is nothing a MAC can't do as far as camming goes. Also MAC's are way better for editing purposes.

When my computer died, I used my husband's MacBook pro he used for coding. So he already had Boot Camp on there. So I just ran Windows.

This was before streamate released SMBroadcast for Mac and I didn't want to purchase the app to adjust my Logitech C920's settings since I only was using it for a couple weeks.

Sounds like your customer was making up a justification to try to talk models into Skyping with him. lol There is no problems whatsoever with c2c or privates with a Mac. :)

Or he has an outdated OS and his 2008 macbook is basically a potato.

SMbroadcast has been available for Macs since August 8, so 4 months ago. But it did take SM several months to make a Mac version after releasing the one for PCs.

I really like my Mac mini and use it for all my cam and clip work. The only issue I have is that I cannot export a clip as a WMV file from Adobe Premiere. I use VideoConverterPro to convert my MP4s so I have a second format for c4s.

I have to disagree with you on that there's nothing Macs can't do as far as camming. I got a Mac last year after years of camming on a PC and I still regret it. Admittedly, I don't do your average camshows, but I think it's important to have a computer that can adapt to different situations as the industry changes and the lack of software available to Macs makes them very static. Setting aside the green screen shows I do, I had issues recording locally in the native Logitech resolution on my Mac. Not CamTwist, iGlasses, Webcam Software, or Photobooth had that capability. Photobooth had up to 800x600 which is okay, I guess, but also not really.

Which brings me to my other point: having to run a million different programs for basic webcam functionality. 3 programs is overkill to simply have image adjustment and overlay capabilities. 4 if you want to record the show. And it just raises the chances of something going wrong.

I do run multiple programs on my Windows now, but the second program I use lets me stream with my DSLR and is not available on Mac. Maybe DSLR isn't common right now but it's really nice to be able to do it. Even with streaming via DSLR and doing green screen shows I'm still able to get away with 2 less programs than when I was streaming via my Logitech from my bed on my Mac.

I haven't noticed much difference in editing on a PC vs. Mac; whether it's a laptop or desktop computer is probably much more important than the OS. I liked editing on my MacBook just fine, but the desktop PC I have now which is comparable price wise is a million times faster. But again, desktops are going to have more power in general, so it's not fair to compare them.

I haven't used the Mac-specific editing software, but with the entire creative suite for 50/month I can't fathom switching to something else.

Edited to add: I hear people mention often that Macs are better for editing but I haven't heard any reasons for it; I'm really curious what they are!

Many people got used to Final Cut Pro from Apple, and that's probably why they prefer Macs. Premiere works fine on PCs, but nowadays you're stuck paying Adobe their monthly subscription for as long as you want to use it, rather than buying Final Cut once. If you also want Adobe After Effects, you're up to US$50 a month for the whole CC suite, which does, however, include PS, Illustrator, etc, which may or may not be of interest.

As far as hardware capabilities, there's no good reason to prefer Macs to Windows PCs.

The reasons have been explained pretty well because it's not a cut and dry issue. It used to be that you could only cam from a mac with boot camp but not so much anymore, however Logitech is still not very mac friendly and the common issues I see is inability to turn off auto adjust features or tweet without running multiple programs that still don't give you full control.

Most models I've worked with who used mac without boot camp just didn't bother with the white balance or auto focus changing constantly.

PC is the most fully functional OS for camgirls between all common platforms/ services and devis. You can cam from a Mac for sure but it's not the simplest option.
