Is Onlyfans steadily becoming the preferred platform?

As a viewer, it's been years since i've been a regular consumer of camming, predominantly MFC, but i'll quickly scope the camming landscape once in a blue moon to see which popular model is still around. Based on my observations, a number of popular models seemed to have moved exclusively to OnlyFans - unsurprising given the meteoric rise in its popularity. This leaves me to wonder if OF is steadily becoming the preferred platform over onlive camming. I've never dabbled in OF before and only know of its general setup, but i can see how a subscription based platform might have greater appeal for some.

Note: my observations are very generalized as i didn't dig deep into this, so any of you would have greater insight

Users of the websites and content creators like different websites for personal reasons. For me, I get way more interest and $ live camming than OF but that is just my experience at this moment. Things change though .

I think some of it is a “go where the customers are” mentality, and right now the perception is that everyone is on OnlyFans. It does seem like a number of cam models I follow started OF accounts in the past year, with really different results. Some are really successful, others aren’t.

But I also think it’s a different kind of customer. I spend a lot on cam sites but have yet to subscribe to any model’s OF. At the same time, I am sure many other spenders prefer OF over cam sites.

If it wasn't for Onlyfans, I'd probably be completely retired from adult content/camming by now. It has been a fantastic alternative to being live on cam multiple days a week, and there's such a big audience/userbase there that I have 100s of people that don't already have all my stuff from MFC there. Now on OF I make around 3-4x what I make on MFC since I can spend a handful of hours each week posting and interacting on OF vs. having to be live on cam at MFC to make money. And I use some of my MFC content (I am still on maybe 4 hours a week) as content for OF, as well as film/take pics maybe an hour a week.

Onlyfans is becoming such a big mainstream/household name that so many people are signing up there, it's growing like wildfire (a big part in thanks of how much they portray themselves as mainstream all while allowing us to post our nude stuff there) and continues to be a great mode of income for me and others in my position.

Like you, I spend on cam sites, but I have yet to sign up for even one OnlyFans. Part of that is the OF format presents me with a blank screen for each model (zero content), so I have no idea what I am buying or why I would want it.

I totally understand why OF is great for the model. It is a hybrid between active and passive income, where you can invest a few hours a week and have that recorded content make money for you over and over. But someone explain to me what is in it for the viewer? Why would someone prefer to subscribe to 10 OF accounts than to just use Pornhub and get similar or better content for free?

As a viewer, OF seems totally impersonal. It is just recorded porn, and why spend a porn budget on that instead of cam sites where I can interact?

Agreed. I only follow 1 model on Onlyfans, but I find it too unpersonal. The interaction isn't there like you have on a camsite. I'm only a member to show I'm a fan, not because I like it so much.

For me a better model would be for the OF models to give away the monthly subscription to their top tippers for free. That gives them an opportunity to constantly market the paid material to a group of people who have a proven ability to spend. I might tolerate being constantly spammed if I did not have to pay for it, at least for a model I really liked.

The impression I got from the models that I follow on cb that use if is that they still make more from broadcasting on cb (when cb isnt fucking them around with payments or banning them).

They certainly make more from of then they do with fanclub/bio galleries but live stream on cb still brings in the most $.

I think it's an easy small impulse purchase. Also from observing viewers spending large amounts in top live streams with such minimal interaction that it might as well be a video you can conclude that many will spend for the fantasy of interaction

I think maybe those cam models just wanted to move on from camming to something less time-consuming. I find that OF can become passive income while camming is a literal job you have to set lots and lots of time aside for it.

If you gave up streaming entirely, do you think the OF income would sustain itself? Or do OF customers tend to come and go, and you need a constant stream of new viewers on the stream to push traffic to OF?

Highly doubting it. You can't really compare camming to selling content, can you? It's a whole different type of interaction. Yeah, selling content is having a moment, but it will never ever replace camming.

Personally, I perceive OF or any other platform that imitates it as a side hustle, while camming is the main job, if that makes sense...

Simple: Onlyfans is much more profitable for much less work and energy. I make maybe 2x on OF than I do camming and with 1/10 of the time 1/50 of the effort. I took a 1 year break from camming and thanks to OF I didn’t even feel it. If I still cam it’s because I love it and love the interaction with my guys.

At the end of the day, OF piggy backs on adult performers to bring in traffic, and convert it into cash. No novelty in that I perform marketing in paid social and search engine channels for a living, and I doubt that OF presents actionable data insights.

No doubt, it won't stay this popular forever, but vs. the other examples you list, OF is the one that has broken into mainstream media in a pretty extreme way. So I think it will linger a bit differently than the others. (And yes I know snapchat is super mainstream but adult content is not actually allowed there.)
