Ok, so this is what I want to do, and I’d like anyone to give their honest opinion or advice, and you can be sarcastic or brutally honest: I have read about the importance of camming very frequently and consistently in order to build an audience. This may not be possible for me. Here’s my scenario: I already have a career and full time job in which I intend to continue until I retire. I work a LOT of overtime to make ends meet because I really got f&*#%d over financially a little over a year ago. I want to try camming as a side hustle only for a few years so that 1) I won’t have work overtime at my job; 2) I can get myself out of debt and fulfill some other financial obligations; and 3) buy myself a few extra things.
I don’t want to make this my life’s work and I don’t want to be the next top cam model or close to it, but I do want to be good at it and do it the right way so that I can be a success during the tenure. My work schedule varies, and when I get home I’m often tired. Is it acceptable to perhaps post a calendar with a schedule of times and dates in which I plan to cam? I know that once someone follows me they will be notified by email when I can. Any other advice which might help my scenario would be appreciated.

Yes its possible its just usually slower growth. I would only post a calendar of scheduled times and dates if you plan to show up because its very common for models not to follow the schedule they post.

Thanks CBhours, I’ve heard that about posting when you plan to cam again...to show up when you say you will. Sounds like an easy way to lose customers by standing them up. I’m a person of my word and it wouldn’t be a problem for me as I already adhere to a strict schedule for work and other obligations.

It is possible but if you aren’t going to be doing it regularly then you should make up for the lack of consistency by being really memorable. Look to do something that will set you apart from 99% of rooms so people have a reason to show up for you when you cam.

From what I’ve observed as a member whose favorite models aren’t all high-traffic ... a few really devoted regulars who tip consistently can go a long way.

If you’re just looking to make money on the side without becoming full-time, I think you can do it.

Just don’t get too discouraged if you have slow nights. The guys that really like you may not find you right away.

Good luck!

I would strongly consider filming and video making instead of camming.

That's what I'm thinking. If you don't have the time to put into camming, clip making would be a better option.

Ive often heard that SM is one of the main sites that doesn't require consistency to make steady earnings. I haven't worked there so if im weong about that SM babes pls correct me...

But id agree w folks suggesting clip making. Its a slower build, but more sustainable long term especially if u do need to be spotty

Consistency is important on streamate too. Not near as much as MFC or CB imo.

Hey! Thanks for this post! I'm in the same boat! I do think it's common and very possible. I am also trying to make ends meet, being fucked over financially a few years back and having to leave my whole life behind. In the process of a foreclosure as well as a divorce. I am not making camming my career either I also work alot , but do try to pop on cam my free time and have one day at least that is consistent. Its definitely not a total waste! I have only been camming for about a year but have been able to stack that side cash, which has been a godsend. It's totally worth a try! Give it your best shot. I'm still learning and this page is amazing for ideas, info, help and invite. Good luck!!

I'll repeat that clips are going to be the most reliable income stream if you don't have a ton of time for streaming. They're especially ideal for those of us working traditional jobs and wanting/needing a second job. I'm one of those folks, and I try to block out time on the weekends to do a bunch of filming, then I'll spend an evening editing and another queuing my clips to release over the next couple of weeks. This is nice because I can just take my laptop and sit on the couch watching Netflix with my feet up as I wait for files to save or upload. It's very important to also block out a day or at least evening that I do NOT work, because burnout is a bitch and it hits harder when you're doing two jobs. I also like that I can film enough in a weekend to last me a month or more if I keep it to simple, one-shot clips that I can bang out quickly. That leaves me with the rest of the month to relax and enjoy my hobbies.

Consistency is helpful on SM, but not as important as on token sites. It definitely helps as far as regulars, people like their routine and you'll see the same people visit around the same time of day or day of the week because they know you're good for the show they want. On the other hand, it's not uncommon to have a decent amount of traffic if you log on after being off for a while, as members go "ooh, I haven't seen HER before, let me check her out!" I've been on the site since 2014, but I still have guys asking me if I'm new after returning from a hiatus. I do make more consistent money if I'm sticking to a regular schedule, but it's rare that I have a $0 day even if I'm camming sporadically.

I did this from July 2014 to Nov 2014. However, my goal was only to see if transitioning to full time was feasible, which I found out it was.

I worked a 50-70 hour week at the time (in vanilla world), and was not super consistent on when I went online, however, I did go on most nights/ early hours after work. I made decent side money, however long term that would not have been sustainable. I would have had literally no life at all. At the time, I also had an Adderall problem, so ahem, I didn't need as much sleep. Not sure, I could have handled that workload sober, for that long. I was also extremely physically fit at that time, which helped a lot! Physically that would get really exhausting and sore, really fast, no matter fitness level.

ETA; I have gone through phases, sober, of working 2nd jobs. I usually work about 30 hours a week, and do clips. I always intend to cam live, when I go through those phases, but I never end up making it online. Just due to energy. However, I stay reliable with clips, and have gotten good side income from it.

Any sites in particular where one could suggest this?

ManyVids, Clips4Sale and iWantClips are the sites I post content to and I recommend each one.

ManyVids has been doing better with fetish/femdom content over the past year or so whereas in the past it was more vanilla centered. Most of my videos sell pretty well there. Clips4Sale is the best for niche fetish content. Taboo and femdom also does well on there. For iWantClips, I only post femdom content since that's what most of their member base is there for. I can't comment on how vanilla or more niche fetish-y stuff does on there. Each of those sites have good, paying internal traffic.

Is that really a thing though? are there a lot of successful people that sell just clips without building a large following through other things like camming for example?
Yes, definitely. Sites like clips4sale, manyvids, modelhub (by pornhub), and iwantclips.com (IWC) have great internal traffic. Although it depends how you define "success". Monetarily, it's feasible to make a large chunk monthly, from just those sites.

ETA; I want to say that all this is way easier and more doable as a single person. Once you add in a domestic partner, and children, it's not possible to do that many hours, without neglecting your family. Even 40 is a stretch for me these days, due to family bonding time etc.

Is there a way one could do this and not end up being on porn hub or similar sites?

Probably a stupid question and might get some beaks but gunna ask anyway lol

Yes. I can think of quite a few content creators who only make content and are very successful. I'm not a millionaire by any means, but I make more than a comfortable living through just content making. When I made the switch from camming to clip making I changed my stage name and abandoned my old camming social media. I rebuilt new ManyVids and iWantClips stores from scratch (I did keep my original Clips4Sale store tho), using just the clip site's internal traffic. By finding the niches that I fit well in and busting my ass I was able to totally rebuild my brand and make even more money than when I was camming without the help of any camming audience.

I doubt it, but camming you would end up on there anyways. Lots of customers tape live shows and post them on tube sites. It's not possible to work in the adult world, without ending up on a tube site somewhere, in my opinion. The best you can do, if that is an issue, is to hire a takedown service, or devote several hours per week yourself to checking, and issuing DMCA removal notices. Although sites like Manyvids and Clips4sale will issue them for you, and do all of the hard work, if you just find the links. However there are sites in other countries that do not abide by DMCA, and will post content. The more popular you are, the bigger the problem, and the more views and traffic, stolen tube site content of you, will have.

ETA; Idk what a beak is? But I will say that there are countless threads already made about this.

Absolutely. I have friends who were making 6 figure income on c4s while mfc was still just getting started. Most of c4s top studios are not cammers at all.. and mostvMv main girls are solely clip producers. Not to mention the rise of onlyfans..

Oh ya totally, I know the risk and reality just thought if I could do the clips and such without it progressing or making it happen faster lol. Thank you!

You have an interesting way of wording questions, but then apparently meaning something totally different? Wow. Interesting manners.

In my experience, I've found only one of my clips on a pirated site as compared to hundreds of hours upon hours of my streams. Bots can access those for free as a viewer, unlike clips where someone who purchased it has to decide to upload and sell it. I'm sure people who sell more clips than I do have more of an issue with it but the barrier to entry on pirarting camshows is so low that it happens way more for me. Just my experience though.

I appoligize if my words were taken a way that I honestly did not intend at all. I'm puzzled and did not mean anything unmannerly. I appreciate your response and insite.

I had never considered this, great idea. Thanks!

I feel you!! I am on the same boat, althouth in my case I would love to try to cam consistently and building a community but because of my situation I am not able at the moment :(.

You definetely should give it a try to sell vids, but if it helps about my experiencie, try to cam whenever it is possible and try to stick a few regulars. It may sound silly but in my personal experiencie it has helped me a lot because right now I'm doing a lot of privates with them and I am making more than when I was doing public chat (not loads but its something lol)

Get a Twitter account and link it to your webcam profile. Because you are broadcasting sporadically, on Twitter announce a day in advance what your hours the following day will be. That way your regulars can organize their own schedule to be with you when you broadcast.

This is an important insight. These webcam girl tube sites are low-budget operations that only target free content. If I were a cam girl and I wanted to prevent my stolen streams from displaying full nudity, I would run one of the bots on CB that supports hidden shows and put all of my token menu flashes into a popup hidden show. You could even create a 1 token paywall for other viewers to see the flash. A 1 token paywall is all it would take to leave the tube sites blind, and your stolen streams would no longer contain the flashes you did during your show.

Got any particular apps or bots you would recommend for accomplishing this task? Thus far, I've only used CrazyTicket Bot, but I wonder if there are others I ought to consider...

It's definitely an option a person concerned with piracy could take. You're right that even a single token would be enough to deter bots. Unfortunately, the single token is also enough to deter a significant number of viewers. With changes in CB algorithm, uncertainty in how page rank is decided (I believe it is a mixture between total tokens held by members in the room and total registered viewers), I am willing to put up with some piracy in exchange for potentially better page rankings. From a psychological standpoint, even if these tokenless users aren't counting toward page rank, a room with hundreds of users, 90% of whom are tokenless, looks more appealing to a non-critical member on the surface as compared to a room of a few dozen who all hold tokens. Not to say it's not a good idea, but it does have potential trade offs that may be worth it for some models depending on their style.
