Hello

I am a new cam model. I used to be a stripper for years but got out of that and started working full time in construction. At the time I was happy to escape adult industry work but I always reminisced and missed and so when I started camming last month everything really felt right. If anything I wish I could cam more hours but my job is physical enough already so I cam 2-3 hours daily and am pleased to made some $ I hope to make a sound investment with.

I can’t decide what would be the best to invest / or what to invest in first. I also have the stimulus money I can add to my investment and want to be the wisest with my choice.

My list of desired investments:
Gaming laptop
Game capture device
180 degree VR camera
Pole (for dancing)
Furniture - my house is a haven of freebie and found furniture so I am not confident to cam in any other room except my bedroom without at least investing to make the rooms seem presentable

Will my fans get bored of seeing me only in my bedroom while I wait to get my house nice?

How much of a demand is there for new VR porn? Where are the websites that are looking for content from independent cam models?

Which investment would you suggest to do first? How do you plan your investments?

I intend to continue camming part time as an alternative to my industry job. Any investment advice is appreciated. How did you go through a similar situation yourself?

I'm probably one of the best people to talk to about that, since ive just spent the last ~3 months looking into everything, and know ~90% of everything related..
And most who know more than me, would probably be reluctant to provide info on the topics..

If you wish you can PM what you want to know.

But basically to do "well" with this, it needs ~$40k of equipment, and a few expensive software's that will cost you a lot in %'s and monthly.
And preferably you should have the coding/techie knowledge to do most of the tech side yourself.

Then there is various scale downs from ^^^..
Where you cut corners to reduce cost, and reduce what you can do, in those cuts.

PS, messing with that <--- low end side of things,, just needs a webcam, as a minimum.
But lots of stuff you should have / pay for, to get a decent result.

So live camming is cheaper and easier, and probably the better route. ; )

Impressed with your knowledge

Nah the knowledge is easy, anyone can spend a few months researching the VR topics.

When you need some extra info, hit me up , and I can link/point you in the right direction, so you can grab the info yourself.
Will just help save you a couple of months of exploring options imo.

I remember reading a while ago that the VR people who partner with Stripchat, since they have a VR porn section, would help you set up with their equipment free of charge. I never really understood how that worked, but worth looking into if it's something they still do!

Yes,, A link is here

And
There's 20 models in that section, who have less then 20 viewers
And they are just in front of a webcam basically.. pretty normal sorta stuff.
And low rewards from 20 viewers, i would assume.

I was more referring to something like..

Which pulls in 4 mil views a video.
And she (the VR character) 's also done adult / porn.
And ^^^requires the $40k of equipment and expensive software / etc etc

So maybe it depends on what you call VR :)

I'm not a model, but the most common things I think model's buy: an ok web cam, ok mic, some basic lighting, outfits, toys, interactive toys. And a better computer if they need one. Some models opt for things like a 2nd monitor, comfy chair, fucking machines, props, extra.

If you look at the major VR porn video sites, a good chunk of their content is Stereo 180 Video and a Binaural Audio. There is a real cost to the hardware, that may not be easy to recoup the expense.

As other people mentioned, some people are doing virtual idols like: projekt melody, codemiko. Miko is a skilled game developer. melody has like a whole team behind her.

Never heard of that type of video but totally compelled

When you said "new VR porn" that's what I assumed you meant, and when done properly it generates extreme amounts of users and tokens/payments/etc.
But like R/L models, it also depends on your theme, personality, and how you do things.. as to where on the viewer/payment range you might fall.

Its, "Basically" spend $5k for someone to make an avatar for you, to your specifications. But maybe more for the more complicated anatomically correct parts.

Track your head/face/lips/eyebrowes/eyes/etc,, with a certain Iphone strapped to your head, or VRheadset, Which put's the face movement onto the character.
Track the rest of your body with a 3D body suit. Bit like a $30k wetsuit full of body trackers, which make the character move.
Track the fingers with tracking gloves.
or a leap motion detector if you want to scale down a bit.
Putting trackers on your real chair, that moves the virtual chair to match..

https://www.synertial.com/sports-mocapsuit

Making a 3D virtual world or room / environment in unreal or unity.
ETC ETC sort of stuff.

And if you wanna cut corners cause you don't wanna pay $40k + large monthly costs and % costs..
Then it gets more complicated. : ) , dealing with extra software / limitations / etc..

I don't wanna pay $40k .. so i'll play on the cheaper side of things..

As @InannahQoH said, the equipment is very expensive. You can read my thoughts on VR camming here.

Definitely invest in a good laptop first. Get a stripper pole if not for streams/content, then just for yourself. I've had many streams that didn't go well and was feeling discouraged afterwards. Just 10 minutes pole dancing feels so good and can turn a bad mood into a great one. You don't really need new furniture, but if you can afford to invest in it and it's something you want for yourself, then go for it!

People like familiarity, so no, they won't get bored if you're just camming from your bedroom. You can add things to it over time, such as different lighting, colors, decorations, if you wish, but you don't have to. People are there to watch you, not have a house tour. Of course you can cam from different areas of your house for special shows, such as kitchen for cooking, bathroom for shower, etc, but you don't have to do those types of shows. Seriously, a bedroom is really that's all that's needed. Hell, I've seen people only cam from a tiny closet and do extremely well. One woman in particular had put mirrors and pretty lights all around the closet and it looked super fucking cool.

I'm a pretty conservative investor so if something isn't necessarily needed or if there isn't a demand for it, I probably won't get it. I also try to get people to buy things for me. They're requesting it, after all. This job is incredibly volatile and you never know when you will have a stretch of time where you won't be making the money you need. It's so important to save.

Thank you for your response and honesty! The pole is something I have wanted personally for several years so it would be a personal item to use also while camming. I really appreciate your advice about furniture and decor as I have been worried about that. I have over 40 sex toys because I got into the toys 1st and camming 2nd so I know I don’t need toys. Has anyone used the game capture device recording with a bad laptop? I want to make videos of my cam content for sale but I cannot do it with my laptop capability. I also cannot do any Bluetooth toys on my laptop so that was my other idea to get a better computer . But also would be nice to do part by part instead of one big purchase

It's really really easy to get into the mindset that your fans will get bored if you're in the same place. I went through this too when I was on cam, and I STILL go through it sometimes filming XXX scenes!

In short, the location doesn't matter. It's all about YOU. If you DO want to spice things up for a peace of mind, something I've found works really well is to decorate your background...stuff like hanging up a sheer curtain on your wall, $10 LED lights from Amazon, etc. Swap out the curtain, lights, etc whenever you want. That's a cost-efficient way to keep things fresh.

Something else I do that works well is different looks. I'll play with makeup and hair. I'll wear wigs. I'll wear bright outfits. You get it. TBH I don't know if it makes a difference as far as fans noticing, but I notice! And, as a model, when I FEEL awesome by switching up my looks, background, etc., my performance and presence is just way better overall. Which means, money.

If you're thinking of doing VR porn...it is in demand, but it can be tricky to film especially if you're new. Something I've found works REALLY well (these scenes always get a lot of views and buys) is Virtual POV (go on Pornhub and look this up). It's basically having the camera make it look like you're having sex with the viewer. Sometimes I don't even take my bottoms off for these. lol. They're pretty easy to film and fans love it because it makes them feel like they're getting intimate with you. That can be filmed with just a regular camera.

I HIGHLY recommend, if you're going to invest in a filming camera that's not the iPhone -- those work well too -- a GoPro Hero 8 or above. I alternate between using my iPhone 11 with a MOVO stick (Amazon) that has a microphone and tripod. It's really easy to use. The GoPro is too because it's meant for extreme sports- the quality is phenomenal. You can get a microphone mod that's basically a case that snaps on with a built-in mic. You'll also need a sim card. I ALSO have a light mod which is a really tiny but super powerful bright light that hooks right up to the GoPro.

Bottom line is you don't need fancy equipment. It's all about the content you film. As long as there's good lighting and it's good quality (and you're filming scenes that people want to watch) you're good. I also use a ring light (Neewer on Amazon) which is a good place to start.

So if you're going to invest in anything, I recommend you invest in your camera (whether it's an iPhone that films in 4K or a GoPro) + the add ons as well as lighting, as well as the background stuff I mentioned above.

If you're a dancer, the pole would be a cool thing too to bring in eventually (unless you have more $ to spend up front).

If you don't yet have a laptop, you'll definitely also want to get one of those, as well as an HD webcam to start.

As for furniture, if you're not confident in the other stuff that's around, stick to your cam room until you can afford to get different furniture. One piece at a time. I will say that I was using cheapo Amazon furniture for like 4 years in my apartment and my fans did NOT care - I kept my house clean and tidy, had little decorative add ons that made it me, and made ME, my scenes and the experience I gave my fans be the focal point.

If you're on cam, you can also add a lot of this stuff to your Amazon wish list and promote that...members LOVE to spoil! ;)

I hope this is helpful.

Thank you so much ! My
Mind is blown with your various insights . I have an OLD (2010) laptop but I think I’m stretching her to the absolute limits. I am very intrigued by the Virtual POV idea and excited to make such kind of content I Never knew existed! And your ideas for simple decorations ! Wow ! Will be referencing your post several times as I continue on this path. Appreciate the specific items mentioned very much .
