Meh... whatever. Apathetic Atheists tend towards disbelief because believing takes more work. These are the people who won't argue religion, even if a total nutjob confronts them because arguing just seems like a waste of time they could spend doing something else.

I'm kind of leaning towards the alien ant farm theory these days. I mean fuck! You know if we had the technology to create life on another planet just for observation and study, we would!
Pretty 100% positive for myself it's not a "god" that demands any form of "worship".
Not to be contrary, but I'm not sure that's true. My understanding is that most physicists are atheists or agnostics (what I call a "weak atheist"--which is what I label myself).HiGirlsRHot said:JoleneBrody said:Mine is pretty spot on. I was skeptical of the quiz, but identifying me also as agnostic was spot on accurate. I am not smart enough to know if God exist or not. I can't imagine why any God smart/powerful/wise enough to make the universe would want the adulation of humans. On the other hand, most of the smartest brains in physics and cosmology believe in God, so who am I to tell them they are wrong.

Yes, as you go back in time, the more you find pious scientists. As far as today, a good many scientists refuse to label themselves, like Neil deGrass Tyson. Quibbling over the exact definition of atheist leads to folly, but technically, "agnostic" means someone who asserts that the existence of God or gods is impossible...which is quite an assertion in itself. I try to be more humble and call myself a "weak atheist," which simply means that although I don't believe in God or gods, I don't state positively that he doesn't exist, simply because the evidence is completely lacking, therefore, by default, I disbelieve.HiGirlsRHot said:Nordling said:Not to be contrary, but I'm not sure that's true. This is probably more of a semantic disagreement. What I should have said is that most famous physicist classify themselves as agnostics and say that you can't prove or disprove his existence. So for instance Einstein declared he wasn't an atheist. This group would include Einstein, Carl Sagan, and Richard Feynman, and generally Stephen Hawkings. There are also a sizable number of Nobel Laureates who are a religious, Max Plank, Werner Heisenberg, and Freeman Dyson, and more recently chemist and physicist like Brian Kobilk, William Philips and bunch others I had heard of listed here.
