Carnegie Hall Will Start Live-Streaming Its Concerts
In a new push to expand the market for classical music, Carnegie Hall is launching free live webcasts. Medici TV, a six-year-old French company that has already webcast many of Europe's premier classical events, will start its collaboration with Carnegie Hall on Tuesday with a recital by mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato.

The Carnegie Hall webcasts are free live and for 90 days afterward. Medici TV also sells subscriptions for fuller access to its archive.

I am certainly not the world's biggest opera fan, but I plan to check this out when they get a few more shows in the archive. Hey, the price is right ;)

I'm not into opera's much myself. But looking through their calendar of events they do mix in quite a few regular symphony and orchestra concerts as well. Those I enjoy. I'll be keeping an eye on this too.

I noticed the first one is already streaming since it was live last night. Sounds really good on surround sound and they did pretty good video quality.

Just as a side note I went to http://www.medici.tv/ directly. Under the 'LIVE xx' tab (xx is the number of live ones yet) there's a 'still available in delayed streaming' where all the free ones are placed until they go past the 90 days and make you pay.

One little annoyance I did notice though. It REQUIRES sign in to watch. You'll get a couple minutes in and up pops the sign in page. So you will have to create an account to watch further. You can use an email address or your facebook. And it doesn't matter if you're at carnegie or medici site, they both stop the video to force sign in.

If you're like me and you don't like to give out that info, they accept throwaway mailinator email addresses just fine.
Be sure to actually go to mailinator and enter in the fake email name you make up after you create your account. Because they do send an email. You have to click on a link to verify it's a valid email address. But after that you can watch the whole thing.
