Have you ever subscribed to a private email service? Free email services like Gmail scan their users emails and have a history of participating with the NSA in warrantless mass surveillance programs. I want to leave Gmail and switch to a private email service. Anybody on here have any recommendations?

I use easyDNS to host email and DNS for my domain, along with the domain registration itself. I've used them for years and highly recommend them.

Their email service supports encrypted IMAP and SMTP, includes a Web interface and all the data is stored in Canada, outside the NSA's jurisdiction.

Even if your server is secure, The other end is still probable collecting / reading your emails.

Allot of the pay to use services are inadequate. With only basic features, limited storage, very basic spam filtering, little or none disaster planning.

Mean while gmail mail has: 2-step, encrypted IMAP, encrypted web interface, security reporting, security audit, activity log, app audit, drive, google docs, great spam filtering, the email service stays up to date, huge storage space, option to clear your history.

I used one before Gmail was a thing, the Gmail came along and put them out of business.
