hey check out my new desktop background
Here's an honest question:
Do you also feel like there's something slightly off with the new season?
I'm fairly positive he will show up next season as somewhat important in his role as a blacksmith. I assume he will be making the soldiers dragon glass weapons. I doubt they brought him back simply for his role this season. The only reason I know King Robert's son lived through the trek north is he was known to be the fastest runner - this we knew because he was short blacksmith who had been hanging out at the back of the expedition. GRR kept him alive for something through all these novels and they reduced him to a raven. So great to have you pop up after all this time, now run with a message and fuck off: you're less needed than Hotpie in the story now. Much like the author..
This has felt almost like an alternate universe version of Game of Thrones. It's like they've done mostly away with the things that the show was most praised for in its early run (political drama, characters being fleshed out through lengthy scenes consisting mostly of well-written and well-acted dialogue, shocking death scenes, subversive plot developments that play on genre tropes, etc.) and replaced all that stuff with dragons and zombie-like enemies and clunky foreshadowing of events and battles that don't really make logistical sense and... I dunno, it's been fun. But it feels like they're moving further and further away from the things that made me a fan of the show in the first place.
I really enjoyed this season and the last, but possibly because it has gone past the books so I have nothing to compare it to. Plus, I kind of like it when they just get along with it. It's become a bit more like fantasy porn, while before it was more fantasy realism. By porn I don't mean sexual, more that you can get off on the excitement and adventure, while originally GOT was very realistic with things not going down the expected route and all sorts of things "coming up". You got great scenes, but they were between the nitty and gritty parts. Something I both loved and hated about George R.R Martin's writing.
I'm going to stick this in a spoiler for those who haven't watched the last episode- But for me this was an error and also showed how they've moved away from the books:
When they named Jon as Aegon, was it just me or did that seem ridiculous? While they have decided to keep out Aegon's character still being alive in the season, they still very much have stated that Aegon was Rhaegar's son from his marriage to Elia Martell. So if hypothetically Rhaegar had conveniently secretly annulled his marriage to his wife who gave him many children so he could marry Lyanna Stark, would they seriously name their child with the same name as his first born who at that point is still have been alive?! Talk about slapping Elia in the face.
My guess is because they've cut out Aegon's character they have merged Jon into him, though this makes me wonder if this season is just fan porn based on fan theories as everyone has been expecting this. While in the books this may absolutely not be the case that Jon is Rhaegar's child. Why bring in a new character in Aegon when you can merge a favourite into him? It just seems pretty lazy, really they should have created a new name for Jon, or just let him be "Jon Targaryen".
It's definitely all way too convenient for GOT. GOT is lots of things, convenient is not one of them.

I think it's some sort of tradition or something. There's actually about eight Aegon Targaryens, with Jon being included.
Aegon the Conqueror (1st one) built the Iron Throne itself.
His grandson was also an Aegon, Prince Aegon. This one never sat on the throne.
Aegon II did take the throne after Aegon the Conqueror. His half sister was next in line, but he had his dragon eat her so he could take it.
Aegon III, half-nephew of of Aegon II.
Aegon IV. Worst Targaryen king of them all.
Aegon V. Father of the Mad King.
Then Prince Aegon, the one you mentioned, Rhaegar and Elia's son.
It's almost like Lyanna Stark wanted to ensure the Aegon name lived on with her new family with Rhaegar. So she chose that common name, even though Rhaegar already had a son named Aegon at that time. Given how many other Aegon's all lived at the same time, I think it was probably an accepted practice to name a child after 'The Conqueror' and builder of the Iron Throne.
I've tried to watch GOT several ltimes before but it just doesn't catch me at all. Any recommendation to keep watching? I've heard that it is a great t.v series, almost a piece of art.
Yes! you are right!! but for example happened to me with Harry Potter, when I was a little girl it made me bored, I preffer instead Lord of the Rings (books and movie) but after 10 years now... I LOOOOVE H.P. We tend to change all the time and maybe one day I'll love GOT because it ha all the things I like, dragons, middle age-ish environment, murder...

A small hopeful piece of me wants Jon to some how end up in command of the dead dragon. Too easy, I know.
Stop saying Denarius! It makes me so angry.
I do feel like this season was more for the wow factor instead of trying to maintain the political and complicated story line.
Like characters like Tyrion and Varys didn't play as big of a role this season which was somewhat irritating.
Like I feel like in other seasons his intentions seemed clearer, this season was just him vaguely meddling with the Stark sisters.
I agree with everything you mentioned. It completely makes sense when you really think about why they did things that way. I felt like the band aid was just ripped off so fast this season haha. Not saying your ideas aren't valid and I understand the feel of the season. They really tried to jam a lot in to fewer episodes. Some of my thoughts:

Yes! This next season might be even more of a pain in terms of expediency and a lack of every bit of intrigue in favor of a cramming as much as the hbo people can into even fewer episodes (a part of me thinks since they have no source material to act on their own and that can be confusing as they have no real idea of what the originator of the series wishes and how to translate his unwritten ideas to a tv audience). The really broad and expansive storyline has been narrowed to the size of the point on the tip of Arya's 'needle.'
It really is amazing to me how during the first number of episodes there didn't seem to be enough action and it was getting to know people and I didn't really click (lol, there is a comic book called Alpha Flight where the lead character and Ned Stark kind of have the same thing going on and I was blown away back then--around issue 12) but now there seems too much action.

“Last year we went out to Santa Fe for a week to sit down with [Martin] and just talk through where things are going, because we don’t know if we are going to catch up and where exactly that would be," Benioff says in the April issue of Vanity Fair. "If you know the ending, then you can lay the groundwork for it. And so we want to know how everything ends. We want to be able to set things up. So we just sat down with him and literally went through every character.”
That's right. The trio had a spoiler-filled summit in Martin's Southwestern abode. Still writing book six, The Winds of Winter, Martin noted that not all of the pieces of the puzzle are in place. “I can give them the broad strokes of what I intend to write, but the details aren’t there yet," he tells Vanity Fair. "I’m hopeful that I cannot let them catch up with me.”
Yeah I see people keep saying they are on their own and have nothing to go on but Martin told them exactly what to do and how it should go. Plus with the episodes being longer you're getting just as many minutes as before pretty much. I prefer longer episodes actually and enjoyed the way it's been done. It should have been done like that the entire time.
I like the longer episodes but I wish there was more! I think that there's just a lot of information that they've had to bring up super quick. I think since the series started out slow it's just hard to adjust, at least for me
I haven't read the books but I do know there's quite a bit of a difference and I'm sure the show will also give its own spin on things.
I mentioned earlier that last season was like getting a band aid ripped off quick- which I have a love/hate for haha. I want it to last forever but also want to just get to the point
