Can you prevent models from seeing when you are online?

I'm not super familiar with Chaturbate but I do occasionally visit the site. I had a strange experience recently when I was on the site at night, just looking around at different rooms, and I got a message on Telegram from a model I know really well (but mainly from a different site). Basically, the message had a screenshot of my username on Chaturbate, and it said user [my username] now in the room. (Although I never went to her room, I just went on the site). She sent this with a comment about me being up so late, how I need to go to bed, and so on... lol

Okay, aside from the weird relationship aspect (this is a model I talk to more offsite than on any cam site nowadays), I was curious: I don't follow her on Chaturbate. Meanwhile, she does not follow me on there, either. If I look at my profile in Chaturbate, there are no models or users following me. So I'm confused: Is it because I went to her room once a long ways back, is my username on a list she has, and she is able to see the online or offline status of any users on her list?

It felt a little intrusive and made me wish that Chaturbate had a privacy setting to prevent this. I really don't want to get a nag message about how late I'm staying up, or why if I went to the site, I didn't visit. Is there some setting that prevents this? (Something how on Stripchat, Ultimate Members can enable an anonymous mode).

To quickly clarify -- the screenshot the model sent said, at the top: "the broadcaster is online" and then under that said "[my_username] is now in the room" and below that it said "[my_username] is no longer in the room"

Like I said, strange thing is: I went on the site, but I never went to her room in the brief time I was online.

It sounds like a glitch, as far as I know models have no way of telling what users are on the site unless the user is in their room, or the user is streaming.

Was the last room you visited in the previous when you last went to Chaturbate her room? And if it was did you leave the site by closing her tab?

Theres the username color changing and them seeing it from the direct messages list but of course that wouldnt have caused a room join/leave event.

We don't know if you are online unless we physically see you in a room or you are broadcasting.

I've had this happen once before, with a model when I was in her fanclub. I was browsing the ol' hub of porn one day, and I guess her stream must've been playing as an embedded advert on there. I was told that my username kept showing up as joining and leaving the chatbox (with the fanclub notices), but I definitely wasn't on cb at the time. May be something like that, or just a cb glitch

top model increases the chances dramatically of him running across an embedded stream advertisement some where on the internet, if hes logged in on the same browser he will automatically enter the room if he encounters an embedded stream ad on a different website.

Edit: well not if he disabled cross cookies or is in a mode in the browser that disables cross cookies automatically.

Doesnt have to be directly from CB, he could be browsing any site...well any site willing to place an adult embed on it. For example someone might be online browsing a porn video site at the same time and then get shoved into a CB room from an embedded ad.

That happens when I open Xhamster but like you said it was a top model. It opens in a new tab, kind of difficult to ignore and not know it's open. Is it because of the way I have my browser set up that it opens in a new tab? I'd think if you had it set to open in the same tab that you'd still know you were there.

Different kinds of ads, what you are describing is a popup ad, an embedded ad is part of the page and doesn't need to open in a new tab.

Edit: the size is customizable it can be the size of your standard small square ad.

Thanks to all who replied. To answer this question: No, she's not a top model. In fact, she really not popular on CB at all. At any given time, she might have 2 to 6 real members in her room. She does most of her business on LiveJasmin. (She's not a top model there, either, but does seem to get a lot of privates on LJ).

Thinking about the responses in this thread, the only possibilities I can think of for how the model would got the notice are:

1) I almost always use Mozilla Firefox, with high security settings and ad-ons. However, on this occasion, I happened to be using Chrome. With the way Chrome tends to save all kinds of stuff, even across browser sessions (login IDs and who knows what else), maybe this was the result of some kind of cookie thing or some other data leakage? (I'm not techy enough to give a plausible possibility; just throwing this out there). Basically I hate Chrome for this reason...I would only put Microsoft Edge lower on my list of browsers I don't trust.

2) Maybe out of habit, I clicked over to her room and quickly clicked away, sort of a reflex or habit? I guess I would call this the dementia explanation... lol I'm pretty sure I did not do that, but I guess there is always a one in a thousand chance.

3) If I clicked into her room EARLIER in that evening, when she was OFFLINE, would it retain a record of an "entered/exited room" event? I don't remember but that would have been more likely than me entering her room when she was online, which like I said, I'm 99.9% sure did not happen.

4) Do studios ever have their own software to help models track stuff on sites? This is a longshot idea - I have no idea how any of that would work. I'm only raising this because this model works in a studio in Russia, and the screenshot she provided, of course the descriptions (like "user entered room" "user no open rooms") were in Russian.

So anyway, yeah, too bad CB doesn't give an "anonymous viewing" option to members. Someone in this thread said that models can't know when users come online. But, I noticed that in the past, when a model was following me, it seemed like she did know when I went online. Because she would sometimes send me a DM saying, "Hey, will you be coming to visit?" The timing couldn't have been a coincidence each time.

In this case, though, as noted: I don't follow the model on CB, and she wasn't (at least to my knowledge) following me.

Lastly, as far as the specifics... It wasn't a big deal. Just felt a little icky to get this reprimand from the model on Telegram.

Is that the 'camming life' YT channel? Those banner ads drive me crazy (and I'm not a model) with the way they seem to imply all cam models are either porn stars or relationship counsellors.

I opened my DM panel and there is zero indication anyone is on or offline. I can screen shot and post at a later date because user names need to be edited out.
The only way I would know someone is online is if they were a broadcaster, I was following them, they hit broadcast and sent out the follower email notification. I can open my follower panel and see that everyone who is not a broadcaster is offline even when they may be browsing or tipping another room, because they aren't broadcasters.

I kind of want to stress that Chaturbate is not a two-way relay. The notification systems are for models to notify users, not for users to be tracked by models. That's illogical to some degree because holy cow stalking.

I once scared a guy so much that he vowed to never return to my room because I was able to guess how many beers he had by the way he was talking to me in chat. I wouldn't put a lot of thought into it past that, but I would bring up the fact you didn't like being treated that way, nicely of course. If it's worth it to you, I guess. If not, cool. Does Telegram let anyone know you have the app open? (Never used it.)

You can see if their name changes color like from light blue to blue for example (assuming they don't have it set to appear light blue always)

I sincerely doubt any independent model is just staring at her DM panel, but a studio model might have a handler spotting it. I mean I never open mine until a message appears.

Telegram is an instant messaging app just like WhatsApp, iMessage, etc. Telegram is more the default for people in Eastern Europe and Russia and WhatsApp is more popular in Western Europe, as far as I can tell. A lot of things in Telegram can be customized for privacy, like your online status, who can see any gallery you might have, who can see your real profile photo versus a generic image. There are ways to do secret chats and a lot of other privacy features.

In this case, I only occasionally visit this model on sites anymore. Almost all our communication is on Telegram (just talking about day to day life and so on). Our settings are such that yes, we can both see when we're online or not (on Telegram). That's just our choice; this can be set case-by-case for individual contacts and you can make your default be more hidden.

This was more like a friend writing and saying, "Hey, I see you on that site! You should be asleep by now - you have to get up early tomorrow!" lol That's why it took me off guard. But everything is fine; it was well-meaning.

Yes, if she was in the room she would have seen that message even if she wasn't streaming. Most likely explanation

It only showed my user name and the notifications, like [user] "entered room" and then under that [user] "no more rooms". Note that this was in Russian, so those translations might be a bit off. They are basically Google image translations of the text.

It looked like screenshot was snipped so for all I know, there were other user names above and below. But there was nothing with her room name displayed on what she sent.
